Just curious what everyone's first memory of a car is?
My dad had a '65 International Scout II with the full removable hard-top. He dropped a 327 in that thing and had a great off-road warrior. I remember being a kid in Boise, Idaho driving around that thing with the top off in the summer. Good times!

I'm not sure which memories are earlier, but I remember a '66 (I think) Chevy pickup. sky blue exterior, white interior. I remember getting jammed in the knees when my dad shifted into 2nd. The floorboards were rusting, so every dirt road filled the cab with dust. The other was a green '71 Plymouth Fury III.

My first car memory is my dads 9 passenger, 4 speed, 63 Chevy wagon, his first new car. My first memory of riding in it was going on vacation while we stationed in the Phillipines (around 1968 or 69) we were going through mountains and he kept having to up and down shift, since I was the youngest I had to ride in the center of the front seat and the shifter kept hitting my feet.
I hated that car, until I got a old enough to drive and found out just how pwerful a Chevy 409 was. I'd give a lot to have that car back now a days.

My first car was a 69 super Bee w/ 383! Guess how long that lasted? I was 17. My license expired almost as fast as the tires on the car did!

First real memory was may Dads 49 Plymouth business coupe. No back seat 3 on the tree. After that was Moms 56 Pontiac Hardtop, white and root beer brown with the lighted hood ornament. The best one was the Plymouth replacement, a 57 Pontiac Safari wagon. That car was a pretty fast car for a heavy wagon. Saw my first ride at over 100mph in that car on the Detroit/Toledo expressway. It was going 90 by the end of the onramp. Best car my Dad ever owned!

My mother had a 1979 or 80 impala x police cruiser. It was back when "the dukes of hazzard" was popular and I just got my license. My buddy and I took the Impala on an old fire road and proceeded to get the car airborn coming off a bridge. Yeeeeee HAAAAAA is what we said untile we bottomed out and broke the frame. That was the last I ever drove a car of my Mothers...lol and the funny thing is my buddy is now a police officer.

My first memory is in a VW Beetle. I think it was a 71ish... My mom has the picture. Well my dad does. Mom passed in Sept and it's still kinda hard for him. I'll post it once I get them. I looked a WHOLE lot different then. But the car was neat!

Dads 1976 TA....spectacular!! My first real memory was a guy with a lifted 70's ford van sitting in front of us at a stop light, he put it in reverse and drove up on the hood, all I saw was a face full of differential. I was 3. That also is probably my first memory of my dads profanity!!

I remember my grandparents 1968 Nova 4dr. It had a straight six and an auto tranny. The part that I remember about it is that the engine "whistled like a tea kettle". That is how grandma put it. Grandpa was never concerned about it. They drove that car forever.

okay i have a few of various cars..first that comes to mind would be the old family station wagon..unknown vintage with the woodgrain vinyl sticker on the side..my dads twisted idea of a phantom woody!.. you know the one with the rear seat facing backwards.. looking at all the people looking at us. we would wave like an idiot (in retrospect) sometimes they would wave back some were kinda lazy and only waved with one finger!
the next would have to be the vega, packed up the whole family 2 adults and 2 kids with all the stuff needed for a nice liesurely week in the mountans...tent, stove, sleeping bags, clothes, food, etc...IN A VEGA!
ah the best for last...my 1969 ford falcon..was my grandpas car..given to me at the tender age of 16. had a 6 cyl motor that sounded like an industrial sewing machine..it wasn't a fast car by any stretch..for example when i wanted to clean off the windshield all i had to do was stop and all the bugs would just fly away..no need for cleaner, scrubbing or a squeegee..a week into owning washing waxing this gem, my mom gave me the task to run to the supermarket to fetch a few items..everything was going according to plan as i pulled into the parking lot an old lady decided she need out of her parking spot right now..she backed right into my prized falcon..tore up the left front fender..while i was standing out side with her exchanging info..a drunk guy came barrelling though the lot and cornholed the back end..dammit that car was still drivable..for a couple of weeks then i broke down and bought a 47 chevy truck..thats another story thats way too funny
oh yeah anyone remember laying up on the shelf by the back window and having your dad hit the brakes and you would wind up on the floor..laughing getting back up and telling him to do it again....
shame our kids won't know that

My first memory of my first car ride was actually in a Ford, my dad had bought an all original 1930 Henry Ford model "A" with the rumble seat in the back. I was around 5 years old at the time, when my mom held me in the rumble seat while my dad took us for a sunny summer drive. BTW he still has that car to this day, and it is unmolested in every way Absolutely perfect! He paid $6,000 for it back then, who knows about today's $$$

lets see. my dad picked us up every day from school in a '90 pointiac bonneville, my mom picked us up in a 1990 GMC Saffari, and we always went fishin in what i think was a 1985 chevy caprice station wagon. my dad was a big GM guy. i guess he passed that on to me. my mom doesn't really care. i remember crying when we sold the station wagon (i was like 6 or something). i didn't think we would ever go fishin again.
I still remember my first vehicle like it was about 7 months ago...

I remember a single cab 1963 VW pick-up we used to moved house when I was two. When I was about four we drove around in a Fiat 600 Multipla. Ever heard of those? Then there was the first car I steered as a little boy: A Triumph Mark IV. There was the 1966 VW Beetle we camped in in the south of France and the 1967 Mini Moke we drove to the south of Spain with. All before 1970. I haven't thought about them for years.

:happy:My first car was my brothers wrecked 55 Chev yellow/white Belair. Home on leave, he rolled it up on the left side, damage was smashed rt door, rear window popped out, didn't break. He and the other 3 guys were not hurt. They pushed it upright and drove home. He gave it to me since he was in the Navy for 3 more years. I was 16, just got my drivers license. Took off the door, and started driving it around the my home town of 314 people. The one cop in town asked my dad to stop me from driving it. Dad ask if there was a law against me. None existed. No door, no seat belts, rear window gone. Things have changed. My Bro had put duel exhaust, with loud muffers. I loved to harass the cop by coming down the hill into town shift into 2nd gear and let the muffers talk to him, usually with a load of friends in the car.Things went ok until I let my 16 yr old Cousin drive it, SHE was very cute and cheerleader. :grrrrrr:The town got upset and complaints started coming to the cop and dad. They didn't care about me but cute Cousin was different. Dad found me a blue and white 55 chev 210 with no engine or transmission. My birthday present. I started to strip the good stuff off the wrecked 55, first was the Belair seats, wanted to keep them from getting wet. Needed to go to dad's garage, downtown. With the seat out, I needed something to set on, ciderblock would work. Such fun stomp on the gas and wind up in the back seat. Everyone wanted to ride seating on 5 ciderblocks. I drove it around for the summer, until fall when I pulled the engine and put it in the blue 55. This was the most fun summer I had. The things my friends and I did was crazy, wasn't worried about hurting the yellow 55. We were invincible. The saga can continue if interested, like crossing a river.

Well my first car was a hand-me-down. Fist it was new for my Mom, then by brother drove it (or should I say beat on it). The I inherited the 1985 Cavalier classic coup. It was then my turn to beat on it. I drove this car till it had no life left in it. It was my Junior year in high school. My Mom took me to get my Drivers License after school one day. The next morning I swooped up 5 buddies and we skipped school, and headed to Ann Arbor, MI to do a little bridge jumping( jumping off M-14 highway bridge 72'). I got 2 count them 2 traffic tickets that day. The first was heading into Ann Arbor. That was a speeding ticket, we were going around 90MPH and shut the key off (I was 16) and the passenger did the key thing. So we went by a cop at around 80mph with it not even running. The second ticket was for no seat belt. We were pulled over for something else but the officer just lafed at us when I showed him the other ticket and let us go with just the seat belt ticket. Oh what memories in that ol Cavilier.
After that I owned 3 s-10's, Camero, Taurus SHO, 2-Sierras, 2- savanna's

My first truck was a faded red/rust 1981 Chevy full size truck, single cab, long bed. It was 2 wheel drive, straight 6 with an automatic trans. I bought this truck for 240 dollars inspected and ready to go. I drove it for a year and sold it for 300. I would do anything now to have it back. haha

My grandpaw had a 1980 Chevy Van 10, 350 or 305, 3-speed on the tree, power steering and brakes only!
He would shift while I sat in his lap and steered. He parked it when I was 8 b/c something was wrong with it. I went over to his house when I was 16. I took the battery out of the truck I drove over there in, put it in the van, had my dad turn the key while I sprayed some ether in it. The beast started up!!! It ran smooth too, and on 8 yr old gas and oil at that!
My dad wouldn't let me have it, and some guy came and towed her off.
My first truck was my dad's 95 Silverado ext. cab. He had the 350, towing package, bucket seats, all power options. We shared the truck for a while. Then my oldest brother got a new truck, he gave his old one to my other brother, and I got my brother's 92 Caprice. I loved that car, it got great mileage, and rode like a dream. I had her for a week and then she died. She sat in the dealership for 3 months, and they couldn't figure it out. By the second month, I went out and bought my 95 Cheyenne, the one in my signature. Hurricane Katrina took that awesome car from me. But now I drive a 2000 GMC Sierra. My middle brother got a new truck and gave me his old one!
