I have an '06 equinox. A few months ago the blower motor started making funny noises, like when you would put a baseball card in a bike spoke. Eventually, the blower stopped working, so I pulled it out and replaced the blower motor. The resistor was completely burned up and the casing of the plastic meleted.

I replaced the chevy resistor (http://www.gmpartsclub.com) and it turned back on, but the resistor only lasted for a week until it blew. It trpped when i started the car up. I had the fan on high and recirculator on. I figured it was taking too many amps and it tripped there. I bought 2 more resistors, and put the next one on. It lasted 5 days before it blew, but I was sure to turn off the AC and radio when i started the car.

When the car was running, i turned on the air,it came on for just a second before stoping.

I have one resistor left, but I don't want to put it back in if its going to blow. The ones I got were on www.gmpartsclub.com (http://www.gmpartsclub.com) . They fit and cost ~$20 a piece. I called the dealer here, and he said that the part i have isn't for an equinox. The equinox reisistor (http://www.gmpartsclub.com/chevy-equinox-parts.html)is special order and costs $152.00.

What should I do? Should i spend $152 on the resistor they say I need, even though the other one works, or should I do something else?

I've tried checking for a short circuit but I can't find one. Is there another reason why the resistor would keep blowing? Each time it does it melts the connection and burns the metal connectors even more.
