Just read about this in the local paper.
Last year on August 26th a guy named Steve Maguire decided to host a cruise (http://www.gmtruckclub.com/forum/showthread.php?t=14066#) night after losing his sister to cancer. With the support of car groups from as far away as Toronto and some of from the northern states , he had over 540 cars show at McMahon Stadium ( the local football stadium that seats about 35,000) on a cold and rainy day. The final total raised came to around $45,000. The fact that only a $25 donation was required, brought out alot of locals with anything that rolled. Anything from a model A Ford to a brand new (http://www.gmtruckclub.com/forum/showthread.php?t=14066#)car off the showroom were on display after a cruise around town. All spectors were given free admission but donations were accepted.
I missed the event last year due to a death in my family which happen to be caused by cancer. So I was very gald to here that the day went well.
So this years event is looking like it will be much bigger then last years. The "cool cars cruising for cancer" will be held on Aug 23 and will begin and end at McMahon Staduim. There hoping for 1400 cars and I hope they get 2000. All of the details are at coolcarscruising4cancer.ca.
This year again I will not be able to enter my truck (http://www.gmtruckclub.com/forum/showthread.php?t=14066#). This year I will be no the road and will driving somwhere accross Texas. Mabey next year?
Please pass this one onto someone you know. And if you are reading this and will be in the Calgary area At the end of August, drop by and checkout some cool cars and drop what ever you can in the pot. I bet every person reading this has been affected by cancer in one way of another. lets try to do what we can.
I'm willing to bet that the best GM club on the net can help.
