My '07 Silverado didn't come with the DIC buttons on the left side of the dash. Well I just remedied that issue! I ordered the buttons and dash plate from GM Accessories Store p/n#19159438 and installed it yesterday. Installation was easy with minimum tools required. I highly recommend this!

Any chance you could post some pics. I might consider doing this even tho I don't mind just looking at my guage cluster, which will still show you everything you just have to do differnet things.

The only issue I had installing was putting the bolt back in that holds the Parking Brake release handle. Damn Jeezus clip wouldn't stay in place! I found it was easier if you started the bolt just slightly before replacing the knee bolster panel. Like I said, very minor problem. Took all of about 20 minutes to install using a phillips head screwdriver and a plastic putty knife (in lieu of a plastic dash trim tool).

That's great, I wonder why they didn't put that in at the factory, the buttons can't be that expensive of an option. I guess some people don't want them and prefer them to be more hidden???

What was the cost? I didn't see that in your post. Glad it was easy to get done.

I need to do this too. Curious did you have to have the dealer program anything. did you just install it and that was it.

No programming required! Just 15-20 minutes to install and your good! The connection for the buttons is already there. Like Steve said I don't understand why they didn't include the buttons in the first place. They do give you many more options!
Good luck!

I've now driving a lot of the 2007 and 2008 GM Trucks and SUVs and it's just a major step forward towards providing the driver with valuable information when driving down the road. Gone are the days when I'll be satisfied with just the odometer and trip.

:great:Thumbs up on the great find! Who would have known that you just could get the buttons and hook them up. I wonder if it's the same for all vehicles?

Got the D.I.C. yesterday and put it on today. Very simple and had it installed in less than 10 minutes!! Works great.

What is cool....their is an instant fuel economy that shows the cylinder mode at the same time. It is neat to see the V8, V6 and V4 modes and then see the fuel economy too.

What really pisses me off is there is actually a socket molded on the back of the original panel for the D.I.C. connector to rest in with no buttons. It is actully plugged into it awaiting simply enough for the buttons. You would think that for all the effort to add the wiring harness the buttons would just be standard equipment. Sad...so sad GM is that greedy.

Do any of you know if a Driver Information Center is available for 2008 Trailblazer? I purchased the vehicle without one, and am having trouble locating one.
Thanks for your help.

It is available, not sure if it's plug-and-play though like on the silverado. it might be. Try calling down to the dealership and see.

My 2008 SIlverado LT Z71 didn't come with the driver info center either. The parts guy at my dealer didn't know what I was talking about when I told him I wanted to order it. he couldn't believe that my $32k truck didn't come with it.

All-in-all it cost me $150 installed and I love it!! It keeps me reminded of the terrible gas mileage I get!

Driver Information Center (DIC)

The standard DIC features an array of alerts and a large display window that shows two rows of characters. Push-button controls are located next to the gauge cluster(1) for quick access to trip computer functions:

Trip/Fuel: Displays the odometer, trip odometer, fuel range, average economy, fuel used, timer, transmission temperature and Active Fuel Management™ indicator (if equipped).
Vehicle Information: Displays powertrain, security and chassis messages such as oil life, engine hours, engine hot or overheated, Tire Pressure Monitor,(2) door or hood open, washer fluid and StabiliTrak on/off.(3)
Customization: Customize vehicle features to your preference, including language, remote door lock and unlock, exit and approach lighting, loudness of vehicle chimes, seat memory recall and remote start enable.
Set/Reset: Set or reset certain vehicle functions as well as acknowledge DIC messages.1 Driver Information Center controls are operated through the trip button unless steering wheel-mounted audio controls are ordered.
2 1500 and HD Single-Rear Wheel models only.
3 1500 models only.

JD i just got my 08 ext cab truck, I have the DCI , no panel like you bought,On the dash over the oil gage indicator is a small push tab that when pushed i get odom reading, trans temperture, and trip odom reading thats all. My question JD is when you got the panel buttons , what were you able to get readings on? was you able to get anything more then what i got.I assumed you could get mileage per gal as well as other info.In my particular DCI did i get a min or with additional panel button your able to get more info from your new wiring hook up

The DIC buttons will give you all sorts of functions to chose from! Best explanation will come from your owners manual. Tire pressure, oil life, trans temp, trip timer, fuel mileage, relearn key fobs........etc. Easy to install and you won't be sorry!

I have a wealth of switches and ability, is this switch panel just switces or does it have electronics with it? Have you seen diagrams / schematics for this option anywhere?

I just put on the panel with the buttons. Love it. Took about 10 minutes with no tools. When installing the new panel make sure you get the bottum seated behind the lower panel. For $100.00 it should be on every truck as the wires are already there.

All the electronics are built into the truck, this give you a way to access all the data availible through the DIC. It is just 4 momentary switches. The plug is attached to the back of the panel (without buttons)

Hey there,

I just purchased my 08 Silverado LT (w/ 5.3L AFM + FLEX) a few days ago and was let down to find that there were no controls for the AFM. Have read through the posts and the only question I have is, where behind the left driver-side panel are the plugins for the DIC located? I pulled off the panel and wasnt able to find them there. Is it possible they could be wiretied further below?

Also, I've heard there are only 2 plugs that connect into the DIC, is this correct?

Definitely a component I plan on purchasing.

Hello, I just made this modification on my '08 Silverado and it is very easy to do. The DIC plug (unused in a non-DIC vehicle) is actually attached to the back side of the original panel. It branches off from the headlight switch harness, and is plugged in to a 'dead' plug. You unplug it from the dead plug and plug it in to the new switch that comes with the replacement DIC panel.

:gasp: Dude, come on; how does that make GM greedy? Do you think you are entitled to EVERYTHING as standard equipment? There are different option levels for a reason. The DIC is standard on the LT2 & LTZ models, and an option on the LT1. That is why the harness is there, so if the buyer wants to add it to an LT1, he can. Insted of slamming GM for being greedy, you should THANK them for being thoughtful enough to provide the harness for you to add the DIC so easily.

It is really easy to check; just snap the dash panel off and look at the headlight switch harness. The D.I.C. plug branches off from the headlight harness and is plugged in to a dead plug on the back of the dash panel. If you want, I can scan the D.I.C. instructions and email them to you. They show in exact detail how to remove the panel.

The GM Accessories catalog does not specify LT1 only, so my guess is that your WT has the harness. Alternatively, you could ask your dealer. They should be able to tell you if the harness is there.

So getting these buttons give us access to enable or disable the remote start.. does that mean all i need to buy is the factory remote start fob and im good to go? Or is there some other parts/computer i need to get for the factory remote start to work?

Love my DIC buttons. Only took me about 10 minutes to do the whole switch. And yes they are harness is there on a WT. I have a 08 WT LS. The only thing i've noticed is that the MPG indicater is always about .8 MPG more than what I get when I do the math. Trip/Gallons

Not every engine has the active fuel management system. Do you know that it came with it? I was thinking that only the 1500 offered that option for now.

s5Belford Great looking truck!!:great:
I have the same thing with the same package only in Black Cherry Metalic in 2WD with the G80 locking rear end. Mine had the 20's on it from the factory and I added the chrome 6" steps, bedliner, chrome door handles, chrome mirrors. Mine also has the buckets in it from the factory as well. I just installed the rear wheel liners, and I put on smoked drip shields on the doors and a GM bedliner, bug buster and rail protectors from GM outfitters today.

I have a question for you. I pulled off the cover on mine this morning because I wanted to order the DIC button Assumb.. and install them as you did. But I dont SEE any additional wiring back there, as has been stated on other sites. (A unused harness in the back of some kind..??) Was this on your truck? And if so where was it located?

I am under the impression you just pop off the cover and unplug the headlamp swtich and plug that back into the replacement AND there is suppose to be an additional harness in there someplace for the new DIC? If so can you tell me where to find it?

Thanks a ton. I really wanted this on my truck, in fact I thought it came with the allstar package. (And I sell the things..I should have known better than to believe the print out that comes on them to the dealers. I had to dealer trade for mine so I didnt see it in person until it came in.!!:grrrrrr:)

Thanks for any help you can give me.

Thanks for the comment about my truck, I love her and I was FLOORED that the allstar package doesn't have the DIC and what else really floors me is that my friend just got a z71 with a few less accessories than mine and sure enough he has the DIC.

I'm also glad to hear you put in the rear wheel house liners, they aren't that expensive, the save your truck in the long run plus it just gives more of a finished off look.

For the DIC next time you're in your truck, pull that pannel back off and it looks like all the wires there are pluged into something for their intended use which they are all pluged in but the DIC wires are plugged into a dead plug, its just a place for it to go. It's just a small little thing and if you're looking from the top is should be just to the right of the lights. Hope this helps and you can find it, I LOVE LOVE LOVE the DIC, best $69 I've spent so far!

You need to get some pics up, I want to see what your baby looks like!

Thanks for the info my friend. I will pull it off when the parts come in, I ordered them on friday from the parts department.( My cost on them was so low that I figured it would look good with it in there even if it didnt work.)
I will get some pics up as soon as I get it washed and waxed again. I have not had time to wash it in over a week now, and I have to get a couple of good coats of wax on it before it starts to snow up here..which wont be long I am sure. (plus I just like to polish it.)
I agree, I could not believe it didnt come with the buttons. It is not like they are priced like a work truck, mine has a list on it of $33,020..plus all the Extras I added to it!! It looks nicer than most of the LTZs we have on the lot now.
Again thanks for the info, I will let you know how it goes when I get the parts. From what I have read IF it is not where you said it is, then you have to pull the knee panel off and follow the wires up to find the branch off..but according to a couple of people on line here they ALL are suppose to have it someplace..just a matter of finding it. Hopefully it will be where you said it is. However as I remember it only had the main plug going to the light controls and nothing in the blank spot that it shows in most of the other posts I have seen on line. But then I am getting old and dont remember stuff like I used to, so hopefully I am wrong. If I am I will be one happy puppy!!

Hopeit works out for you, i'm sure you'll find the plug

My sticker was right around yours and I've put close to 3,000 in extras but I love my truck, but the only other thing I wish I had were the steering wheel radio controls, andI was told its isnt just a plug and play option.... For some reason they only come on trucks with daul climate control evern though the steering wheel controls dont control the climate.... But I guess thats why they say hinds sight is 20/20

Let me know how it all works out

Same here, I was very disapointed the controls were not on my truck when it came in. From what I have read you can only get those on the 2LT models.
I am thinking about upgrading my stereo anyway, if I do they make an aftermarket steering wheel control unit for Pioneer units. It just attaches to the steering wheel where ever it is comfortable for you. Like you I have added over $3000 in "goodies" to mine so far, and I am still buying. But it would not matter if it was an LTZ, that is the thing about a pickup..there is ALWAYS something else you just "have to have!!"
I was looking into the roll up hard bed covers, cost is around $1300 for the ones I have looked at but I am still not certain they will handle 3 or 4 feet of wet snow. It is not common here, but it does happen about every other year or so. That is a LOT of weight to hold up. So I am still kicking that one around. I may put on a soft one now and if I decide to change it I can sell it to one of my customers at a good discount that way everyone wins.
I wonder if they have a AA type of club for truck upgraders?
