I need help figuring out what this clunking noise is when I turn a corner.

I only notice the noise or clunk when I'm turning the truck at slow speed. It happens mostly when I turn to the right but it does clunk once and a while when turning to the left.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

What truck are you working on?

2 wheel drive or 4 wheel drive?

Is it when you are moving slow or at any speeds?

Where is the sound coming from?

Welcome to the site! If it's repaticious clunking you hear and also feel in the steering wheel (even though there is no play in the wheel itsef) then it could be the notorious intermediate steering shaft. I had mine replaced under warranty at the dealer my wifes 2001 suburban does it as well. What are you driving?

I am driving a chevy 1500 2x4.

The noise sounds like it is coming from the rear and I only notice it at slow speeds.

Check with your local dealer to see if there may be a recall. I have a link to another site that has a couple of nifty "How-To" instructions with pictures if you choose to repair it yourself. I will send you the link in a PM.

What year Chevy? 10 bolt rear or other? Open diff or Gov-lock or other? Any sign of problems in the u-joints on the driveshaft? I might check the brakes, especially if you have drum brakes for any hardware problems. I might also pull the diff cover and make sure the spider gears (and the rest of it) look ok. Maybe check the diff fluid to see if it has enough. I would also probalby go through the suspension carefully and look for loose parts (like a missing shock absorber bushing or a sway bar end link if you have a rear sway bar).
