I got in my truck last night to go to work and backed out of the driveway. Pulled it down in drive and took off, but the transmission never would leave 1st gear. If it had been my 76, I would have checked the vacuum hose and all would be good, but I need to know what happened here and what to check. The thing pulls great, but just won't shift and has never given any hint of a problem till last night. HELP!!

Welcome to the site! That does not sound good. Same thing happened on our suburban and we had to replace the tranny.

Check the transmission fluid level. Low tranny fluid will cause you to lose gears because it can't build up the needed pressure to shift.

Thanks for the advice, but it ended up being trash in the valve body causing the check balls to freak out. I changed the fluid and put some additive in with it to flush out all the trash. Had to drive it about 20 miles to get it just right , but she works like a charm now. THANKS
