Hi this is my first post on this forum. I've come here to find information about fixing up my truck. I have a 93 GMC 1500, V6 2WD. Obviously the V6 is a little insufficient for anything other than grocery getting, and I'd like quite a bit more power than that. I'm thinking just a nice TBI 350 will do for now.
What I'd really like to do though is an AWD conversion. I don't mean 4WD, but true AWD so I can have it on the fly, whenever the need arises, and so that I could put some decent power to the ground without traction issues. I was thinking of using a SyTy/Astrovan/Safari AWD transfer case. Are there any other transfer cases I should be looking into? The thing is though, I want to keep my independent front suspension, and I was wondering if you guys knew of a way to do so using mostly OEM parts.
I don't want to have to spend thousands on conversion kits or do any massive fabrication. So if there's a combination of parts to do this that's mostly bolt on, I would greatly appreciate being pointed in the right direction. Otherwise I'll probably just stay with 2WD.
Thank you all for your time!
