I plan on lowering the rear end to make it level with the front of the truck. I was wondering what I would need to level it out and how much it normaly cost? The truck Is stock height. It's a 2006 chevy silverado crew cab. Any help would be awesome.

Well I don't know much about lowering but 4wheelparts.com has a slam air kit that you can look up.

i'd say your everyday AutoZone 2" drop blocks would set it nice and even without sacrificing your everyday ride.

Hey man, I have the same truck, I am attaching a link. Drop shackles are what I reccomend. I made some custom shackles for mine. Drop blocks are ok, but they wont work on that model truck. I hope this helps you.

Thanks for all the answers.
How many inches did you have to drop it when you put the shackles on?

Hey buddy, Ok, I sent you a link on what seemed like a good kit. But I havent used it personally, like I said, I made my shackles right here in my garage. But not everyone has grinders, welders and torches in their garage, lol. Anywho, with mine I dropped it 2" for it to set level, you will need to do the same. The link is a 2" inch rear drop, it should be just what you need. Lemme know if you need further assistance.Mike OH, and FYI, you are gonna need a second set of hands, you dont want the spring to come flying out at you.

Yeah, mine is a 06, but I wanna always pust safety notes out there, just cause of simple mistakes. One of my old neighbors was putting some shaclkes on his old truck, and was scooted up close to the spring, and I guess he didnt have enough since to realize that if he is having to beat the bolt out, then there is prolly some pressure behind it....needless to say he went to the dentist shortly after this.lol mike

Thanks for all the answers. I was thinking about making my own but I drove down to 4 wheel parts and they wanted 113.00 for some ground force's but then I got on there website and they were only 65.00 so I ordered them. Thanks for all the help

Just out of curiousity ZSI52, is there a specific reason why you would rather lower the read as opposed to lift the front? I don't ask because I disagree with your decision. I ask because I have a stock 2000 Silverado and I wanted to raise my front end to match the rear. I was just wondering if you would just prefer a lower ride of if there was something about trucks I didn't know about yet... considering this is my first truck.

I used Ground Force on my current truck. Drop Shackles. Easy install and really helped the look.
As for why - personal preference. You dont have to replace your tires with lowering the rear, but if you raise the front, the typical reason to do that is because you want to run larger tires. For me, I prefer the "Street" look and this was a great way to get the stance I wanted.

My cousin has a 05 Silverado crew cab and he lowered the rear end and I liked the way it looked. Im going to eventualy lift the truck when I get some more money.

I was wanting to lower the back of my 07 classic. So can I use those same drop shackles for mine even though its a 4x4??
Whats the difference between these two kits to make it a $200 difference?

I just put drop shackles on my truck and the ride is still sick the picture is in my sig.
They are hella easy to put in but take your time Here are some instructions
Put rear frame of truck on jackstands
Put jack under rear (pumpkin) of the truck just touching it.
Unbolt the top back leafspring bolts.
Lift the rear w/ the jack.
Unbolt the stock shackle bolt.
Install new shackle on the leafspring do not tighten all the way.
Raise or lower the rear w/ the jack to postition the new shackle in the frame pocket.
Install the lower bolt do not tighten all the way.
Put truck back on the ground.
Torque the bolts and you are done.:glasses:

Ok, I just received my drop shackles yesterday and want to put them on this week. I am a little confused about the install though. I have a jack that I can just roll under the pumpkin and lift the truck up with. Are you saying I need two jackstands under the frame first to raise the truck... and then lift the pumpkin up a little? I have never done anything to a car/truck so this is all new to me.

That's the kit I used. Easy enough to put on, but had to drop the trailer hitch to make it easier. I also ended up buying some shims that went under the leaf springs to straighten the pinion angle. Your kit might come with them. I got my kit out of a friend's garage. lol. I do wish I had gone a head and did the 2"-4" lowering thing, but couldn't afford it at the time.

Neverenough- I saw you put 2" drop on your 08( things got different in 08-09 apparently). Was there enough room to raise the leaf eye up to where the top shackle bolt could be removed inboard, inbetween the bed and frame?? To me it looks like the spring eye will hit a seam in the bed and not allow it to go up enough to get the bolt out...hopefully I'm wrong on this as I don't want to loosen the bed to raise it!
Thanks

I'm wanting to do the same thing to my 91... the rear sits way to high.

You actually take that pinch weld and cut it about 5" apart and bend it over to clear for the shackle. Cut off wheel, hammer and about 20 minutes per side and you're good to go.

Thanks neverenough. That link was helpful too. Now my decision is wether to bend and cut or loosen, bend and cut or loosen, cut then bend or loosen..... that is aftyer droping the trailer hitch.

I dont believe we removed my hitch when we did mine.

You have it backwards. In this situation you would need to lift the front and put some big tires on there!

I have a set of new never installed 2" rear drop shackles from Beltech for $50 . I already had some on my truck and bought a 4" rear drop kit that came with some so I want to sell them.
