1987 jimmy starter removal

HOw does one remove a starter from a 1987 GMC S-15 jimmy? I just cannot seem to find the right way to get it out. I guess iam just not very experianced!

4X4 or 2wd?

On a 4X4 if I remember correctly you have to squeeze it around the exhaust pipe.
I used a 4' pipe to pry the exh. pipe out of the way.
I think the service manual calls for unbolting the pipe on both sides from the exhaust manifolds and allowing it to drop down..

Jack the truck up by the frame so it allows the suspension to extend, turn the wheel so the tie rod moves to give you JUST BARELY enough room to get the starter out.
