Chips and Programmers?

Ihave seen plug in chips (one is adverised on this forum for $69) and programers that say they will improve perfromance, mileage, etc. Do they really work? How do they work? Do they deliver what they say? Will they work with a manual transmisson? What effect will the have on an engine/transmission? Any recommendations?

I have a Hypertech Max Energy programmer and have been very pleased with it. I already had an aftermarket intake and exhaust, and the programmer was just icing on the cake, so to speak. I got an additional boost of about 2 mpg, increased throttle response, and overall power increase. You can do some searches on this forum for "Programmers" or "Tuners", and you will get lots of info. There have been many discussions about the subject. Good luck!
