We need to know what people do and do not use on the site. Please let us know if you use these features at least 75% of the time that you log into GMTC. This doesn't need to be 75% of your usage, but if you use it at least once every visit or every other visit then click it.

Hmm, just wondering if we can move stuff around to make the navigation easier to use.

Steve

Anyone else? I've got a decent idea from this list, but it's partially how the question is phrased and also the small group that's responsed. I'd like to get another 25 people to take this poll and we'll se where we stand.

Steve

If you haven't taken this poll yet, please do. I'll close it down soon and then will add another one in. This was good feedback.

I really like this website, but there is one thing that I think would be cool to do. On a VESPA website that I belong to, they have a chat room for members only to go and talk about there projects. It's kind of nice to be able to talk to someone live, they even use web cams on there to be able to see each other. Just an idea:money:

Steve

We tried chat rooms before, they seem to have died out for the most part. It would be good for events though, like be on at a certain time when we do contests, etc. I can use the Ustream account for that though.

Ok, I'll be closing this down before too long, looks like the core of the site is the core of the site. I'll probably expand this though and see what level people are using other features of the site.

Becuase of the overwhelming popularity of the Photo Gallery, I think I might move that down to the main navigation and move the arcade up to the top.

What's easier to use everyone, the main navigation or the top-level navigation?

I would think main site stuff should stay in the main navigation, and the 'extras' go into the top menu. The Photo Gallery might be more suited in the main navigation so it's more a part of the family. The Blog, imo, might be more suited up at the top with the other socializing/extra sections. Arcade as well... it's not really a part of the site and is more a "while you're here, check out.." thing.

Just my $.02

Does anyone go to the bottom of the forums to see who's online at the same time, or who's been on in the past 24 hours?

Springthing
02-14-2009, 11:28 PM
Yes!

I look at the birthdays every day to see if there's anyone that needs some birthday wishes and I look to see who's online a few times per day. The ones that have been here recently... not much to do with that information.

Good feedback everyone!

I'd like to get another 10-15 people take this quick survey and just click on the items that you use frequently when you come to the site. It's given a lot of insight alreayd, just want to make certain we don't start marking changes too early though.

Steve
02-15-2009, 10:26 AM
... in case anyone just joins now, I already made the changes to the main-navigation bar and the top-level navigation. I think that makes a lot of sense. I need more feedback though!

i dont know how everyone else on here feels about it, but certain words turn blue and are underlined, and when you run your mouse over them, it brings up a link or an advertisement. this really is aggravating b/c i'll be trying to read something, and a stupid little cloud will come up with unhelpful hints and stuff. i noticed the other day, i ran over the word exhaust, and it came up with some womens makeup product that has nothing to do with exhaust! sorry for the rambling on about it. just had to get that out there

Some of the things I want to play with is to 1) increase the amount of ads that appear to non-registered users and 2) decrease the amount of ads that appear to registered members and 3) really reduce the amount of ads for contributing members. It's getting more expensive every month to run this site, I just need to find the right way to manage it all.

i understand. you have to pay the bills somehow. just like the radio, ads are an essential part of the publics life

Steve, I like the new placement for the menu/links/tabs. It seems to put things more in their place.

What would be even nicer than the 'Today's Posts' would be a 'New Posts' button that would give you the new posts since the last time you hit the button. Over on mercedesshop.com/shopforum that is how the forums work.

Also having an advanced search feature would be great.

I really like this place as I have been looking for a good forum to discuss my Suburban. SO far I have gotten great information here.

Thanks for the response!

Actually, the Today's Posts shows you all the new threads that have been added to since your last visit. They are the highlighted (in bold) section in order from newest to oldest. Then anything that has not been added to but is still in the past 24hrs gets put at the end.

And could you share a little but about the advanced features that are not here? The features on this forum seem very advanced, letting you pick by forum, author, tags, etc etc.

Thanks for the input, I'm sure it's appreciated!

i would like to see the catagory for pix split up into customized and accessorized and maybe stockers..customized maybe in to 4wd and 2wd, sky high or slammed, something..a few ground rules might be custom paint, exterior body mods etc, accessorized might include run of the mill changes like wheel/tire combo etc, bolt on mods etc. stockers are showroom fresh or at least unmolested in the way of customizing..maybe add a projects catagory for the not so pretty..i don't know what it is like to program a web site as it has been a long time (team chevelle) 12-15 years ago. not all of us are 4wd fans and i know not every one wants a site dedicated to scrapers, but we can appreciate a clean good looking vehicle when we see it. this just might aid in getting to know who is into what and might aid in networking as you can more easily find someone who is into the same things as you and might have been there done that. they might be able to provide some insight as to what it takes to modify a certain aspect of their vehicle and they difficulties they endured.. just my 2 pennies worth..

I'm easy, I love this site and I'll use it no matter how it's set up. So far I haven't had any problems finding what I need, seems to me cost should be the deciding factor on any changes. Change for the sake of change is never a good thing, If a change is both cost effective and beneficial to the user then by all means run with it, but keep in mind we're all sitting on our butts in front of a computer, how hard can it be? Just my .02 BTW I use 'todays posts' the most.
