here's honest suggestion for you. google silverado forums, and gmc truck forums. go there and search for "2008 silverado" then, simply make list of gripes members have. that will be as honest as it gets.
Silverado a daily commuter? Don't take me wrong, I have one - but I am paid for mileage.

I just bought one and I am very happy. You have to keep in mind that the new ones come with a 3 year or 36000 mile warranty which is probably long enough to cover it until it gets paid off. Another thing to consider is how much they are going to discount the price, that is what made me decide to get a new one rather than a used one. If you havn't rode in one yet you will be pleasantly surprised.

Bought mine about 5,000mi ago. I really like the view from the cab, the rear ext cab windows going all the way down, the fit and finish inside and out. I like the XM Satillite radio and the auto 4x4 function.
To make a complaint
The replacement rim I need costs $600
&
Ice built up under the truck in such a way that somehow it managed to break loose from the frame and hang soley on the e-brake cable. Thus creating a smell of hot brakes but never warning me in the cab. I will be adding a bracket on the frame to prevent this in the future.
I really like my truck!

bought my 08 August 30th. I don't use it for a daily driver but have racked up just over 5k miles with various road trips and it is awesome. Very comfortable (IMO). Gas mileage isn't that bsad if you keep your foot out of the throttle.

I had to get a 5 year loan to keep the payments reasonable but I plan to have it paid off in 3 years by putting on extra money.

I have an '08 Silverado crew cab 4x4 and love the truck. Very Very happy that I got it. Haven't had any problems with it yet. The only recall I believe that there is right now is if you have the heated washers and that I do not have.

i got 15k on mine in 7-months..
love her... never let me down... couldn't be happier..
i get about 12mpg all around.. but i have a heavy foot, and 33" mud tires..
as with everything there is always something you wont like....but with this truck, good outweighs the bad by FARRRRR
i also have to bring her to the dealer because my PASS window makes a horrible noise when going down... but i found the recall and its just a piece that needs to be oiled....
if i could buy my truck again i would.... maybe the 2500 CCSB diesel.. next time tho ;)

I wouldn't even think about getting a 2wd where you live. The money you spend on a 4x4 will come back to you when you sell it.

When I bought this truck I was looking at Ford super duty's. The interior felt like it was slapped together. The glove box would drop down as soon as the button was pushed, not a slow steady descent like GM. The doors felt loose to me also. The sunvisors felt weak. I feel that GM put a little more attention into the small details and that makes a big difference.

My '08 has been perfect so far. It has 13,xxx miles on it now and I have no complaints, other than wishing I had bought slightly different equipment. I wanted the tan interior but I got black, because I couldn't find a white one with a tan interior. I might even try to change the interior color, but other than that, my truck is perfect.

I got my 08 silverado crew cab 4x4 in dec. of 2007. I put a 4" suspension lift in it and put 33" tires on. I have had a few problems with it. Mostly with the chevy dealership for warranty work. My windshield had the typical wind noise so I took it to the dealership. The tech in the body shop back my truck into a wall. Keep in mind, these trucks have rear parking assist. They said they would replace the damaged bumper. That same day after I got that news I went out to my truck to get in it and they had left tools on the top of my truck and drove it out that way and scratched the roof. I took it back THREE times before they had gotten the bumper on straight. I ended up straightening it myself because they couldn't get it on even. I have had the driver side mirror replaced three times because it would flop around. There is a really annoying rattle/squeek coming from the interior headline behind the driver seat. The dealership techs say they can't hear anything so I will have to look at that myself along with other noises in the cab. After it rains the sunroof has a gurgling noise like there is water in it. Other than that I love my truck. I now have 38,000 miles on it and I drive it everyday for work. I usually get about 14 mpg.

I had a 2005 2500HD that was a 4x4 and I loved it, it was unstoppable in 4 low rolling in 1st gear. I live in Ohio and I frequent I-90 in the winter which goes up through the snow belt, Pennsylvania and up through New York state. My dad bought a 2005 2500HD 2 wheel drive, and we just put about 600 lbs. of sand bags in the bed and it does just as good. My only complaint about the 2wd is if you stop on a hill and you start to give it gas, it will slide all over the place but that could have been because of the 6.0.
As far as resale goes that wasn't true in my case or my mom's case, I had a bank adjuster come out and give me an appraisal for my truck before I traded it and he told me that normally you only get $500 more out of the 4x4 option. If you don't believe me call JP Morgan Chase and ask them about the resale value of 4 wheel drive, my mom's ZR2 blazer was the same way. We found an identical one to her's but in two wheel drive and it was only a $250 difference, and the mileage was similar.
I had my truck up for sale for 6 months back in the summer of 2006, 16,000 miles balance of factory warranty which was two years, all available options. (leather, bose sunroof 4x4, 6.0, 4L60E) I had $20,000 flat for it, or take over payments option. I had people tell me that was too high, and the list on the truck was $46,000. I took it to the dealer and traded it to them for the $20,000 I asked, all I wanted was out of the contract with no money owed and that's what I got.
People are just cheap, and they all want something for nothing! Sorry just venting!

This is a great tuck that I do not believe you will have any problems with. It's not like the old days, Gm builds top quality trucks today.

a fullsize chevy 4x4 will sell for more than a 2wd. if put my truck up for sale it would sell for more than a truck that is 2wd, i dont what jp morgan says now if a 4x4 is lifted and looks abused no but some kid would buy that.i didn't even know that chase sold trucks. look at dealers and auto trader and see for yourself

JP Morgan Chase doesn't sell trucks, but you can go through them to get a documented appraisal. It's the same concept when you go to an auction, if it is a highly customized vehicle it will have official documentation with an appraisal. That gives them an idea of what to expect for it, I guess I was watching on this site and I saw quite a few guys pay like $14,000 or higher for a vehicle with over 75,000 miles on it and no warranty what so ever. I do get the Auto Trader also, and have seen high mileage trucks get close to what I wanted and mine only had 16,000 miles. I guess I am just insane then :gasp:
