Hi everyone my name is Scott Douglass And I am the supporting AMSOIL T-1 Certified Dealer here on GMTruckClub.com. I just received my Duel By-Pass oil filtration set-up in the mail today. So this is my first post of many on how to install it. I will also do updates over time showing the oil analysis results when they get done.

I got home today and there it was sitting on the porch. I had that kid in a candy store feeling, you all know what I'm talking about. Took into the garage and opened it up. It was well packaged and everything looked great.

So I will be installing it tomorrow sometime. Laying the parts out is as far as I got. More posts to come....

So I washed my truck this morning before I got it up on the lift. Oh ya it was cold and I missed a few spots, but I got all the mud off. First thing that needs to be done is make sure all the parts are there and you have all the right tools. Instruction Manual click here (http://www.amsoil.com/bypassfilters/instructions/BP258.pdf) Then I found where I wanted to mount it. I have seen a few that mount it right by the existing oil filter location, but you need to stand it off the frame. Then it is right between the drive shaft and torsion bar. I did not care for that location so I decided to put it behind the transmission on the drivers side frame rail. I cut a piece of stainless steel I had layng around for a back plate (do not need but I had it so I used it).
http://i676.photobucket.com/albums/vv130/1st-SYNTHETICS/005.jpg (http://www.lubedealer.com/1st/Contact.aspx)

After marking the holes in the plate and frame I drilled them both out and mounted with 1/4" hardware.

Here is what the stock oil filter looks like....

So the next step was mounting the bracket and filter mount assembly. There are actually 2 brackets, 1 goes across the top of the filter mount with 4 bolts that go through it. The second on goes on the bottom(2 of the bolt go through this 1), like a sandwich. This adds strength and stability. As seen I added in the "o" ring hose fitting adapters and 1 plug. The oil sample valve will go in the other hole later.

Now its time to put the hose fittings on, well 2 of them. I put a hose fitting on each end of the continues hose. Then I hand tightened them. The other end (loop) was up by the filter. At this point I pulled my oil filter (http://www.amsoil.com/redirect.cgi?zo=1695636&page=storefront/sso) off the truck( Amsoil Filter with 600 miles on it ). I will be giving that to my neighbor. I let it drin down, not much oil but a little. Cleaned up the matting surface, installed the 90 degree fitting & straight fitting to the filter adapter. Here you will need a 1 3/4 wrench ( large adjustable may work) to install the filter adaptar. It goes right where you remove the oil filter. Tighten it up to the spec (35-40 foot-pounds).

Now you can make sure your hoses are routed wher you want them and mark to length. Pull them out to install the 2 other hose fittings. all most there, not to much further. Re-route the hoses into position and torque them down. I installd some rubber coverd hose straps to hold thenm in place by screwing the staps to the bottom of the cab.

Now we must fill the full flow and the By-Pass filters (http://www.amsoil.com/redirect.cgi?zo=1695636&page=storefront/eabp) with oil (AMSOIL Synthetic 5W-40 Premium Diesel Oil) (http://www.amsoil.com/redirect.cgi?zo=1695636&page=storefront/deo)It took around 2 quarts of oil to fill the 2 filters. Screw them on and snug them up.

Mofving foreward to the Heavy-Duty Oil Sampling Valve (http://www.amsoil.com/redirect.cgi?zo=1695636&page=storefront/bk30). Oh ya you even get a card with the By-Pass kit for 1 free postage paid Oil Analysis (http://www.amsoil.com/redirect.cgi?zo=1695636&page=storefront/oai). This installs in the back of the filter mount assembly.

Before starting up to check for leaks I put about 1 more quart of oil in the engine. Started her up and and let it run for 5 minutes wile the lines filled up and I could check for leaks. Hey I did it right the first time , no leaks. Checked the oil again, it was about a quart low. So all in all it toke an extra 4 quarts of oil to make up for the oil in the old oil filter and to fill the 2 new ones along with the hoses. With is a great thing seeing more oil is going to cool a lot better. So now when I change my oil it will take 14 quarts instead of 10.

Summary:
Everything went very smooth and am vey satisfied. I do recommend this product to anyone that wants to prolong the life of their engine and save mony in these hard times our country is facing. Running this system with AMSOIL Oils you can go 50, 000+ miles on 1 oil change.

Anyone that is interestid please contact me by clicking here. (http://www.lubedealer.com/1st/Contact.aspx) or just PM me or give me a call.

I hpoe this sheds some light on the AMSOIL product line for those of you that are not familar with the savings of using them.

Wow! 50k miles? Just to be sure, is this system compatible with gas motors too? Does it effect oil pressure, and if so, how and how much?

First off check this link out: 409,000-Mile Oil Drain Interval (https://www.amsoil.com/lit/g1343.pdf)

Yes it is for gas or diesel engines. There are a few different models to chose from, Single or duel is 1 example. Although it is not common for loss of oil pressure it has been know to show a slight drop due to less restriction on the oil system, because the oil flows more efficiently.

Thank you. I just love working on whatever I can get my hands on. Going to do the first service on my Dad's Rhino Tuesday. Switching all fluids over to AMSOIL and I got him a TwinAir air filter also.

AMS-Oiler™ Oil Precharger (AMO)
The AMS-Oiler® is a high-tech oil pre-charger that puts an end to potential dry-engine starting. Typically, an engine that has sat for even a short period of time will operate relatively dry upon starting before oil is able to fully lubricate the system. The AMS-Oiler® operates as an engine oil reservoir, charged under pressure directly from the oil pump output during normal engine operation. Upon turning the ignition key to the on position, up to 160 cc’s (5.4 oz.) of oil are discharged from the reservoir to engine surfaces, building oil pressure and providing vital lubrication.

Performance
With an extremely rugged hi-grade carbon steel reservoir and anodized aluminum base, the AMS-Oiler® is crafted to withstand severe service and to perform reliably in any personal, commercial or industrial application. Unlike other pre-charger systems, the AMS-Oiler® has no bulky moving parts which need maintenance and does not rely on pressurized gas to function. Unlike air-actuated competitors, the AMS-Oiler® can be mounted at any angle and discharges oil even under the most severe conditions. The AMS-Oiler® is substantially smaller, more convenient to mount and safer than large, bulky, pressurized gas devices. Pressurized gas units AMS-Oiler® Oil Precharger By-Pass/Dual Remote Mounted (AMK-01) & Stand-Alone (AMK-02) range from 18 to 21 inches long with a diameter up to four inches, while the AMS-Oiler® is only about eight inches long and four inches wide. The AMS-Oiler® is a self-contained, streamlined unit that has a mechanical life cycle exceeding one million engine starts, with no maintenance required. The AMS-Oiler® is self-lubricating with an integrated overpressure protection device that protects units from retaining pressures in excess of 65 p.s.i.
Applications
While every engine could benefit from use of an AMSOiler®, vehicles especially prone to frequent starting, such as taxicabs, delivery fleets, marine applications, service vehicles and many family and personal vehicles, would extend their engine life with the simple addition of an AMS-Oiler®.
Engines that sit idle for extended periods of time, such as in farm, service, recreation or marine equipment, are given more time for the oil to drain down, resulting in increased wear during dry-starting. An AMS-Oiler® can provide the instant lubrication necessary to save these engines significant wear and prevent damaging metal-on-metal contact.
Operation
The AMS-Oiler® outperforms gas and air charge systems. With the turn of a key to the on position, an audible 95 db signal will sound for two seconds while a 12-volt DC solenoid initiates the unit’s operation. When the oil delivery process is complete, the signal will cease and the operator can start the engine. The absence of a gas or air charge eliminates the possibility of cross-contamination of dirty gas or air with the engine oil, keeping the oil pure and performing optimally.

Does Amsoil have a relocation kit similar to the dual setup only a single for the 8.1 gas. Sure would like to increase the size of the filter over the shorty stock one.
