Ok its time to see what everone is using to PROTECT their engine.

What motor oil do you run in your Truck?

Well I think it's obvious what I use. The proven best, AMSOIL.

I use Royal Purple and have for the last year. I've gotten about the same service as from Mobil 1 and may at some time switch back, depending on expenses.

I used Amsoil in my last Silverado ('89 R-30), but I am using Mobil1 in my current truck ('08 1500) and in my RVs. I would probably still be using Amsoil if there was a convenient place for me to get it. I use Valvoline Synthetic in my Samurai, but I'll probably switch over to Mobil1 in that too. Whatever the dealer puts in the wife's car it what it gets.

I used Quaker state in my truck and Mobil 1 in my wifes van, I am waiting for UPS to drop off my Amsoil tomorrow. Then I will only be using Amsoil.

i voted Mobil 1, but I actually use Mobil 5000 conventional oil; I'm in high school and I'm strapped for cash. It's a nice medium between synthetic and 3000 mile conventional.

Castrol GTX - have used it for years. Good enough for John Force (I'll let his penchant for Fords pass), good enough for me!

I first used Mobile 1 in 1980 and with the old corkgasket system could not keep it in engine but I immediately recognized the superior qualities of synthetic lubricants as to how easy I could crank off a 390 Ford at -10°F.
Then I guess it was 86 I started running it in one vehicle at that time, then another and now I have put about 675K on several vehicles with it running it 15K or more between changes. Have not had the first bit of engine problems since that time.
We now have three pieces of rolling stock with a combined mileage of 448K. I also have it in a International 140 tractor, Honda generator, Honda lawnmower, weed trimmer and use it to lube my guns and clean the gas systems on the semi autos.
I also use it in my electric motors that have lube ports. I started this in circa 1991 when I talked with a electric motor rebuild facility in Columbus, Ga. They told me to run Mobile 1 as they put it in all their rebuilt motors and had never had one returned for failure with Mobile 1 run therein.

I have about 80 quarts of it laid in. I run 10W30 even though the new engines say 5W, the manuals also say 10W is fine so it will continue to run it.

Should I get another vehicle and the manual calls for 5W only, then I guess I will switch but I suspect that may be a litte or long while now and whatever it is I can assure everyone the next vehicle I purchase will not have been touched by a UAW worker.

I've been using Mobil 1 in all my vehicles now for quite some time. It's not too terribly expensive and it's fairly easy to find.

And speaking of which i need to change the oil in my truck.

I have just begun to see the purple in just a few places but understand it is good as well as Amsoil. I am not aware of any synthetic having a bad reputation insofar as that goes.

Oh you would be surprised at some oils. I would not use the Purple stuff, go with AMSOIL or even Mobil 1. That purple stuff breaks down real fast and you lose all your protection. They recently just got sued by BP for false adverting also. They can't back up any of their claims the use in advertising. Just trying to save you some money down the road by giving you a heads up.

Valvoline DuraBlend or conventional
Partsmaster

I change oil every 3000-3500 miles. Full Synthetic is a little more than I want to shell out... Durablend is my happy medium. (Yes I know synthetic is probably better....and i can get away with more miles between changes. ;- )

My mechanic swears by royal purple and swears he get 2 extra mpg from it in his 03 f 150 but i just dont like paying 50 bucks to change my oil

Well here is a a blow in the ear. I am a division director of a national organization and we meet quarterly. Our Southeast area rep always comes and he has a mid size Chevy four door and I know he drives high miles so I asked him how many miles he has on his 02 car. He supplies his own vehicle and is paid mileage. He said 289,000 so I asked him if he was running synthetic and he said he changes oil every 10,000 and uses the cheapest stuff he can get ! ! ! ! He also has the original brake pads/shoes.

This just goes to prove the old saying, just when you think you have all the answers they change all the questions ! ! ! ! Whole thing blew my mind. Also tends to prove the other saying that highway miles are best.
