How can I find out which tranny I have?

Its a 1990 Suburban 1500 4x4 with 6.2L diesel.

I see the codes on the glove box, but have no book on it to tell what they mean.

How can I tell? Anything to physically look for?

Look at the codes on the glove box sticker and find the ones that start with "M". You will probably find an M30 which is the 4L60E, or an MD8 which is the 700R4
