Who's got a bug guard on the front of their truck? Some poeple also call them a rock-chip guard. I think next to mud flaps, it's got to be the most common exterior accessory that exists? What do you think?

I would get on if I could find one in body color, for less than $100. Any leads would be much appreciated.

I have a black 99 Z71 standard cab with the 5.3.The first thing i done was tint the windows. Then on to the engine.I added a k&n cold air unit a mass air flow sensor into a hypertech stage 3 reprogrammer and a 160 thermostat last was dual exhaust and flowmaser mufflers. On the outside i put a polar bushguard and rear saffari guards over the tail lites.Of course i went with 6 inch kc dayliters on the pushbar. Back to the subject i bought a bug guard and window vents. They are both great products that pay for themselves, and the best thing was that they came in black. The horsepower in the 5.3 is under rated with just bolt ons the hemis and the ovals dont stand i chance even with the bolt ons.no offese

I have visors on my windows and sunroof. I also have bug guard on the hood.

The bug guard doesn't work too well because it is not taller than the top of the hood. That's because of my truck's "power dome" hood (is that standard on the HD trucks?). Bugs still hit my windshield. Anyway, I didn't want to return it because of the 15% restock fee that truckaddons.com charges.

I'm glad my Summit White truck has enough "classy" black plastic all around (door handles, bumper trim, side view mirrors, etc) so the bug guard and the visors blend in.

I have a bug guard/deflector as well but as many have said it doesn't do much although it does keep the front edge of the hood clear from rock chips and thats about it....

I have mine on my truck to protect the front of the hood. I don't think it does a very good job of keeping the bug of the windshield. I will be taking it off once I finish my new bumper/grill guard. I don't think the two look good together.

Im thinking of getting one on my 07 classic silverado but im having trouble deciding chrome or black... i plan on getting the chrom door and tailgate handle covers, and i have already got the 3rd brake light cover but the chrome looked tacky so i painted it black looks awesome. I think GM should make those a stock accesory and have the body colors. Ill take some pics and post maybe on the weekend.. besides those mods, im thinking of a chrome billet grille or the GM acessory grille, and that SHOULD be it:P

I have a bug guard thet came from gm on my 03 sil. z71 and I had the mud flaps but I took them off a week ago I was washing by them and noticed the stock gm mud flaps rub on the truck and make little rust spots behind them

that was the first thing i did when i got my truck. went out and put on a bug shield and window vents. I must say window vents have to be one of the best things you can put on your truck. I never put my window up all of the way and it keeps it half way cool in the hot weather

Your right I like those vent shades they let you crack the window without blowing your head off on hwy

Well to be honest I don't really care for them. I ran a couple on my 1st Rams( 94 & 97 )but then stopped because I didn't really like them and they didn't work as well as advertised( like some here have mentioned ). However, I am going to have to run one on my 07 NBS.

The design of the front of the hood is even taller and more blunt/flat than the GMT800 HD dome style hoods. I know guys who had their NBS this past winter and the front of their hoods took a major beating. I have only had my NBS 2 months and only have a little over 2K on it and already I have 2 chips on the front of my hood. So I will have to run a deflector even if it is JUST to protect the front of the hood.

I will run this one from EGR...

Oh, and ventvisors are a must!:great:

I live in maine and the weather is not that great, my grandfather had a bug guard on his 91 sierra which is still in mint running condition now, and wet leaves and such would get caught under it and it eventually ruined the paint underneath, i would rather just take the 5 minutes to use a little bug remover.

I bought a weathertech bug shield. However, I lost one screw (dropped into the front of the engine compartment) and so the kind folks at weatherguard are sending me a new installation kit. Like a fool, I started up the engine after the screw dropped - but all is well.

i have 2000 Silverado CENTURION addition. it came with all blows and whistles possible at that year, including CENTURION bugshield. i guess it's working awright as a bug shield, but i wouldn't ever call it a rockchip protector, as hood has way too many of those and few nasty ones on the windshield. but lookswise it does add some appeal.
i had rainshileds, or whatever they call those plastic pieces, installed on windows for practicality reasons - leave the windows cracked down, and it cools the car, ventilates it, does not allow moisture to condensate inside, allows nice airflow through the cabin while driving.

I bought the GM color matched bug guard and the $%(#@&$ wouldn't stay on my truck and the engineer who designed it should be shot. I've had two of them and both have parts that GM's supplier screwed up because they wound't thread to save their lives...................... I'm mad...... Screw it i'll just repaint my hood in a few years, good thing my buddies friend owns a Dodge dealership with a body shop!

Anyone else have a problem with GM's bug guard?

I have the EGR bug shield for my truck, and I love it. I actually bought it because it matches my truck's two tone paint, plus I really like nascar! It's the Kevin Harvick racing team.:great:

I have one and it is pretty useless. I still get bugs and stone chips on the windshield. If it had not come on the truck when I bought her I would never have stuck it on.

I have the ventvisors too. I really like them, but they are starting to pull away after 10 years. Has anybody glued them back on and what did you use to glue them? I was thinking weatherstrip cement

i have vent visors, the wind passing over them on the interstate is kindof loud, but its ok. i did have a bug shield for a while, but it took away from the truck way too much, so i took it off. plus it didnt do any good

I used new two sided tape to install mine, on my 2004. I had both vent visors and hood protector/bug shield. I am currently looking for both for my 2009.
