Sounds like you got the onewe have been battling around here!

D/L a copy of Malwarebytes its free and works real good to clean out the malware that is letting the virus's in.

Try running it in safemode at first and then after it cleans out most of the mess you can run it again like normal

Oh and get a fresh copy of AVG antivirus and install it also.

Hang in there!

lmao, my pc shut down, and will not stay on after a startup, even in safemode. it shuts down (if i get it to load) in less than 30 seconds.

Darn that is rough! You got a restore cd? If you can boot from the cd that will help to tell you if its software or maybe a hardware issue.

Wish you were closer I would have been happy to take a look at it for ya

well, thanks for y'all concerns, and thanks dr. zero for the offer. my step sister went to college to fix problems like this, so she will end up with it. i really hope that she can get it fixed w/o having to re-install everything on my pc

Sorry to hear about your PC problems. This happened to my HP a few years ago so I switched to Apple. I haven't had any issues with them yet.

I saved a couple of PC's by take the HD out and installing it in to another PC as a slave drive. Then I ran antispyware/malware scanners on the slave drive to clean it. After the scans came back clean, I reinstall the HD back into the original PC and all was well.

Good Luck!

Many times what appears to be "virus" problems turns out to be RAM going bad or poorly matched RAM cards. A RAM card thats going bad can do some strange things like render programs inoperable or freeze up the whole system at any time or not let you boot up at all. Just some thoughts to keep in mind.

what the hell is up with that?!? so i took out the 2gb of RAM that i installed very early this year, and low and behold my pc straightened right up. its running consistantly at about 3% at idle and about 30% on a load. so i am either going to sell the RAM i bought, or buy 2 more GB to match the 2 odd pair. thanks for the help.

but a new problem has arised, i cannot install my internet security program, it keeps comming up with an error message. go to my profile and look at

http://www.gmtruckclub.com/forum/album.php?albumid=628&pictureid=4112

it is the message it keeps comming up with. any ideas? i spent 4 hours online with windows tech support over it

Looks like you are not alone! Maybe this will help some. If you get tired of messing with it try AVG

1722 Error from InstallShield
Last week I found a post in the Vista newsgroups from a lady who was having problems installing Kaspersky Anti-Virus. She was getting an error 1722 upon installation on one computer out of three and the installation failed. She had called both Kaspersky and here computer manufacturer (HP) and neither could help. HP told her to get a new anti-virus package, and Kaspersky had no help to give.

Searching a little I found a solution on a site called MyDigitalLife.com, but it was a bit complicated getting at it, and it came in the form of some registry files with no real information on what the problem is. Therefore, I thought I would explain the problem here and give a solution that worked at least for this lady.

1722 is an error from Install Shield, a third-party installation technology. It means that some custom action failed during installation. Usually custom actions are used to run external software, such as regsvr32.exe to register something.

The thread on MyDigitalLife indicates that this has to do with a corrupted registry entry. It basically shows that, for some reason, the path in the registry to where the device driver information files are located has been corrupted. Thus, your first step in trouble-shooting should be to validate that path:

Elevate a command prompt by right-clicking the Command Prompt in Start:All Programs:Accessories and selecting Run as administrator...
From the command prompt, run regedit.exe
If you have a 32-bit system, navigate to
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion.
If you have a 64-bit system, navigate to
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\ Windows\CurrentVersion
Set the "DevicePath" value to "%SystemRoot%\Inf" (without the quotes).
If this does not help there could be other things wrong, but at least this seems to have helped several people.

so i got rid of the virus, but what if i were to go back to a restore point? could i do that without getting the virus back? if i did the restore thing, its a possibility that i could get my values back isnt it?
also, what if i were to put my recovery disk in? would that reset my pc back to all defaults?

If you roll back to a previous point then yes you can re infect yourself.

If you use the restore CD then it should return your system to like the day you brought it home and you would need to reinstall anything that didn't come with it. All your pics and mail and docs would be gone so back them up if you haven't already before the restore.

yep, its official, microsoft tecs are retarded, and cannot figure anything out. its come down to my having to reformat. luckily i dont have that much on my pc, just 412gb out of 465gb of space is available. 10 or 12gb of that is music. i dont have an external harddrive, so im borrowing my friends zune to load all of my music onto so i dont lose it. i hate technology sometimes!
