View Full Version : New battery, now truck is stalling
I have a 2003 Silverado Extended Cab LS, 4.8, auto, with 97,600 miles. All the miles are mine, highway, and truck has been very well taken care of. I decided to go buy a new battery, and take my GM OEM, and put it in my wife's van which needed one. So I looked up the specs, and went to Sears and bought the top of the line Die Hard, 700 CCA, with 3 year replacement, 100 month warranty. So I brought the new battery home, installed it, cranked up the truck to test it out, and everything is good....I thought. Later that day I take the truck out, and it starts stalling, and even died a couple of times. This had never happened before. I remembered hearing something about the computer being reset. Can anybody help me with this? The only changes in the trucks configuration was the battery change. Would appreciate any and all help on this one.

Ok, found the answer. Changing the battery resests the computer. To restart it you have to touch the 2 cables together, hook them up to the battery. Then put in your key, turn to the start position, but don't start the truck! Let it go through all the lights blinking and all that crap. after it checks everything out, then crank the truck and let it idle for 5 minutes. It will really act weird for a few minutes, then it will smooth right out. Was told about this by a GM Tech, and it worked 1st time.

I never would have guessed that you would have to reset after changing the battery.
