Just took a nice Spring Vacation. We flew to visit my folks in the greater Phoenix area, stayed there about a week and then loaded up my Dad's 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee and headed out of town to San Diego.

The weather was nice and we were traveling with my sister's family and we stayed within about 10-15 minutes of them the whole trip. We drove south until we hit I-8, which is on the far-south and of the region, and turned west and drove.

There are parts that are pretty barren, don't get any mistakes about that, but once you hit the mountains it's a pretty nice drive with lots of cool scenery. I'll post some photos of it when I get a chance. The Jeep handled very nicely and we got to San Diego in about 7 hours including all stops, lunch in Yuma, AZ and another stop in Alpine, CA.

It was a great trip! We stayed for two days and headed home after visits to SeaWorld and the various San Diego / La Jolla beaches. Very good time.

We drove back to Phoenix the same way that we came, back on I-8, which we hit directly from Mission Beach in San Diego. We stopped somewhere at a Ralphs in San Diego right on the freeway to get some snacks for the drive and didn't stop again until El Centro where we hit the 7-11. Lots of bugs in that part of Cali and Arizona too at night.

It was a great trip!

Started out in Phoenix - It was getting pretty hot

Sounds like a great trip Steve! Besides many drives back and forth between SLC and Washington State, the onlybig driving trip was when my Wife and I got married (1985) we drove from Washington State to Anaheim, CA (Disneyland, Knott's Berry, Universal studios) then to San Diego (Sea World), then after a few days we drove to Las Vegas, NV then to Salt Lake city, UT(relatives there), then back home to Washington. Beautiful drive and we loved the scenery. Ony lesson we learned was never try to drive during the day across Death Valley in the end of July in a car with no air conditioning! When we hit Vegas at 5PM it was still 109 degrees.
