The first round of letters to dealers has gone out and one of the closest dealers to me in promimity has gotten notice they won't be a Chevy dealer anymore. That's Carlisle Chevy in Waxahachie, Texas.
It may take a week or two to get the word out to the customer base, and the dealer may stay open for a while, but it's essentially the death knell for these businesses. I simply can not fathom what difference a smaller number of dealerships will have, I mean its either going to be selling 80 at one store and 220 at another ... or 300 at the second store if combined together.
It's also possible that people in more remote areas will be less likely to get a new Chevy if they have to drive an hour or more ... not sure, just thinking out loud.
Who's aware of a dealer in their area going down? Has your favorite dealer gotten notice?

I kind of thought the same way as you Steve. But someone pointed out to me how Toy*%$ has far far less dealerships and are now outselling our brands. I know I will drive an hour if I have to, so I hope others will also.

Right now I already drive 50 miles to my dealer, it was the only one in Ohio that sold conversion trucks at the time. So I know it would not be a question for me, I would go any distance to get another Chevy truck.

Up here in Nova Scotia we have 7 dealerships closing.Over 200 people affected. One family has had a dealership since 1917. I live in the Capital so I have 4 dealers to choose from.

It also comes down to a question of servicing the vehicles also. So if you're in a small town that loses the franchise, you now have to drive much further to get service. Personally, I'm not convinced that fewer large stores will be less of a burdon to GM than more middle-sized dealerships.

As of yet up here in Laval, PQ, they've merged a couple of dealerships, but no news about them closing anything yet :-)
I drove three hours to pick up my Sub.
And I would do it again.

Toyota is outselling US brands because, lets be truthful, they make a better quality vehicle at this time. GM is /was turning it around but the government will kill that with this "takeover" Closing dealerships is a bad idea IMO. Hyundai just announced they will be adding dealers ASAP, they are gaining market share and from what I have seen make a very nice vehicle for the money, my daughters Tucon has been great. If your looking for a business model, Walmart sticks a store anywere they can and seem to be taking over the world. Bottom line, all vehicles being very close to equal, I'm buyin' as close to home as possible.

Oh boy, this is an interesting conversation. I live right by the Morain Ohio plant that closed. They were the plant making the trailblazer and similar suv's. From an outsiders point of view, what did alot of this, is the arrogance of the American auto manufactures. Thinking they were the best and refusing to evaluate the product against anything else. I hear it from alot of laid of auto workers.
