guys,
i have a 1990 chevy k-1500 4x4 with 350 5.7 v-8.
all stock, with 118,000 miles.
i purcheased it 5 months ago with 111,000 miles.
it does have an edelbrock muffler in place of the stock muffler, and i think it still has the original catalytic convertor.

since i purcheased the truck, i have done a complete tune up, plugs, wires, rotor, cap.

every time i try to start the tuck, either cold or hot, it takes about 3-5 seconds for it to fire up. like it aint getting spark or something.
once fired up, it runs really smooth, no missing at all.

do you think i need to get a new ignition module, that mounts inside the distributor cap ? how about a coil ?

so far it has not let me down, but it really bugs me every time i go to start the truck.
my 2003 s-10 starts really fast, as soon as you hit the key, and i would like my 1990 to fire up the same way.

any thoughts ?

thanks,,leonard

you might try a coil.i think my brother had that problem with his truck and turned out to be the starter

Might be your coil or your ignition module. I do know that oreillys can check your ignition module for you. I am having a similar problem with my 00 denali.

Is this your first TBI? They can take a few cranks, especially when cold. Does it start faster when it's warm? Also, try leaving the key "ON" for a second before cranking. It may be taking a second to build fuel pressure.

just swapped out the ignition coil and module under the distributor cap,and sprayed some carb cleaner into the carb/throttle body...

still does the hard start, about 3-5 seconds before firing up.

gonna get some injector cleaer and put it in when i fill up next time.
