Has anyone done their own window tinting. If so what were the results and what manufacturer was used.

Results were ok, but not worth the time and effort it took me.
Since then I take cars to a shop for tint.
I used Solar, I think it can only be bought in bulk though.

I do window tint, just go to the best shop in your area or search the web for someone who has a plotter and can pre cut it for you. It makes it easier, but remember when doin it the tools are as important as the tint. Everything needs to be clean, use filtered water with dawn dish soap or johnsons baby shampoo. Not too much just enough to get the water a little bubbley. Make sure you wipe the gaskets off from around the glass they hold a lot of dirt.

I say take it to a professional as well. All the bubbly tint you see out there..?.. all from people that did it themselves. Safe yourself the hassle, and spend the extra bucks knowing that it's money that's well invested.

Also, if I'm not mistaken, the DIY stuff deteriorates with the sun so even if you don't get that nasty bubbling you'll get a discolouration to where you're tint will turn that purple/grey colour.

I've done it myself before but rely on shops now simply because just about every single shop out there offers a life time warranty on their tint job for as long as you own the vehicle. I love that aspect because it saves me the time and money of redoing it when it gets scratched by the kids or dogs.

Go to a tint shop, not that expensive. Lots of crappy lookin' tint out there, most all of them are home grown.

if you want to do it your self, take the glass out, its alot easier that way, other wise take it to a shop as most people said. i did mine by my self, turned out ok for a first time try, no bubbles

I just had my fronts done to match the backs (15%) and it cost me $89. Lifetime warranty and they told me to save my receipt because it was good for getting one window re-done for free if ever scratched or broken.

Have you tried this? I wonder how difficult it is with the pre-cut stuff.

Pre cut makes life alot easier as i previosly stated. Even cutting it out yourself is easy because thetruck windows are all simple curves. There is a process to use, if anyone needs to know it just ask.

I would like to know. I'm just stubborn enough to try it myself.

I would like to know. I'm just stubborn enough to try it myself.

If you are using the pre-cut it is very simple.
1. Roll the window all the way down and clean the gaskets with soapey water.
2. Put window all the way back up and use a new razor blade to clean the bottom 5 inc hes of the window, make sure you get the blade into the area between the gaskets and the glass.
3. Put window down so there is a 2 inch gap at the top, clean the rest of the window as per step2.
4. Once the window is clean and you have squeegeed it dry than spray down the window and make sure you really soak it.
5. Next apply the tint to the window and get it as close to the top edge as you can without it hanging over.
6. Use your squeegee to lock the top of the tint to the window, if possible use a heat gun very carefully to dry as much water out as possible.
7. When you cannot move the top of the tint than roll the window up carefully.
8. Once you have it up than remove the rest of the plastic from the bottom of the tint and stick it to the window making sure to tuck the excess behind the gasket.
9. Squeegee the rest of the water out, them park it in the sun and let it dry. It should be dry depending on the temp between 4 to 10 hours.

If it were me.. I would let someone who has already tinted windows (shop or friend).

You probably don't want to waste your time and money
trying to tint your windows yourself, then end up not liking it.
Air bubbles can be very ugly..

Or maybe your friends will let you practice on their vehicles! :)
