I,m trying to replace my wheel bearings, but I cant get the hub off. I have a 36 mm socket, but it keeps slipping off. Do I need a special socket/tool to remove the hub nut. Also, what torque do I need to tighten it back to. Lastly, what is the torque spec for a pinion nut, I just replaced the pinion seal. All of the manuals said to torque it back to to what it was when I took it off, but the rear differential pinion nut was loose. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!

Your pinion nut needs to be tight. There's really no torque spec for the nut because when it's installed it crushes a sleeve to pre load the pinion bearings. If you are reusing the crush sleeve then I would use loc-tight on the nut and tighten it as tight as you can get it with a small breaker bar. It takes a large breaker bar or an impact to further crush the sleeve so you should be OK using a breaker bar about 16" long.

I'm not sure why you can't getr your wheel bearing nut loose. Are you using an impact gun?
