99 Tahoe no spark or power to fuel pump

Okay, it is a 99 Thaoe 5.7 Vortec Gas engine. I had the engine replaced back in Feb. and I just replaced the fuel pump a month ago. I was driving along and it stopped running. I have checked for spark and do not have any spark. Also, when you turn the key you should be able to hear the fuel pump kick on but it doesn't. I was told after trying to start it a few times it would build up pressure and would not kick on. I released the lines which should have released any pressure in them, still nothing. I have replaced the dist. cap, rotary button, coil and ignition control module still do have spark and still do not hear fuel pump kicking on when the key is turned. I also replaced the battery terminals. Engine cranks but will not start. What would cause power loss to the distributor as well as the fuel pump? Maybe oil pressure control module? Had someone tell me it was probably the timing chain/belt but it does not crank any differently than it use to. I have had a timing chain break before, on a different vehicle, and the engine cranked alot faster and sounded different. I have also been told to check the grounds but not sure where they are. If it were the grounds would it still crank? ANY help is greatly appreciated. Oh yeah, I also had an aftermerket security system on it that I was told could be the problem but I also took it off and still nothing.

Your 99' is computer controlled. When a problem occurs a code is stored in memory. Check for codes instead of throwing parts at it.

I just had a similar problem with my suburban, it would crank and all of the power windows and radio worked but no power to the pump or to the engine spark. the problem? The ignition switch that is located in the steering column. :great: Hope this helps

The oil pressure switch can cause loss of power to the fuel pump but I don't think the distributor is wired in that safety circuit.

sounds like it should have a code or 2
if it powers up and turns over
it should code right?

Check to see if your security light in the dash is on. It sounds like it went into shut down mode, as if the truck was trying to be stolen. In the column are the components that can fail. They are pretty costly. You can buy a bypass module that will override the security feature for about $80-$100.

Okay, I now have power to the coil and the pump can be heard kicking on but it is not pumping fuel. I poured gas into the throttle body and it started but then then died so I pulle dthe line off of the fuel pump and tried starting but no gas came out. I found out thet the loss of power to the coil/no spark was the ECM1 fuse. After getting it to fire by pouring gas in directly I replaced the Fuel Pump Relay switch and got no start when it would crank. I got out and went to pull the relay out and when I touched it I pushed it a little and the ECM1 fuse blew. Maybe a wire that is frayed and grounded out? I am stumped at this point but at least I have spark now. Any suggestions?

If you don't know how to troubleshoot and repair the fuse blowing problem, I would suggest taking it to a GM dealer and telling them what happened and where you pressed to cause the problem.

I had the same symtoms and it turned out to be a blown fuse to the ECM.
