Just going back to doing all my own maintenance. Funny how those jiffy lube guys miss so many grease fittings. Not funny to replace ball joints, idler arms, pitman arms.
Using WIX/Napa filters, Valvoline MaxLife oil.

I will be the first to say I take mine to the local mechanic. He is a friend of my family's and plus its not too expensive. I Had a cobalt before so jacking it up to get under it was a hassle so I took it to him. I payed 250 for lifetime oil changes and I only pay another 25 to transfer it to my truck so I can't beat it. It pays for itself overtime.

I change my own oil...funny I thought this would be easier after I had my lift put on, but that just means the oil has farther to fall and splashes in the pan all over the place!

I took my TrailBlazer to the local GM shop a couple of years ago. They had a waiting room overlooking the service bay. Let's just say the lube tech liked to get his money's worth out of the gas pedal. Gave the Service Manager a pretty good grilling. Haven't been back there, either.

I do all mine once a year or longer. My wife's Acadia is every 25K miles and my truck I do not think I will have to change for at least 25 to 50K miles with the by-pass filter installed. My Harley I change in the fall or every 15K miles which I never hit seeing having 4 kids keeps me off it most of the time. All my lawnmowers and such get changed once a year. And yes everything I own runs AMSOIL.
Let me know if anyone need a price on AMSOIL. And remember I am offering a 6 month trial Preferred Customer Membership right now.:great:

I take mine to NTB all the time, because i have lifetime oil changes, tire balancing, 4 wheel alignment, and rotation so why wouldn't I? We have a four post car lift and all of the tools, but the time just isn't there for that kind of thing.

I lose money. $7 for a good filter, $15 for decent oil. Plus grease, hand cleaner, hot water, and an hour of my time. I could take it to the speedie shop for $20, done in 15 minutes, no dirty hands. Of course, I get more experience changing front end parts that way........

yeah here in grand rapids there was a place doing oil changes for 15. i brought my old honda passport :jap:there and like 1500 miles later the oil was like black water. havent done those cheap deals since.

Yeah the oil change places are cheap until you start adding the upgraded oil, filter etc. then that 15 quickly becomes 40+. Do mine myself.

wow thats pretty sad if it takes you an hour to change ur own oil. im done in less the 30 min and have done it enough times at the age of 20 to know how to keep the mess to a minimum. at a local quick lube they charge $95 for the mobile 1 extended performance oil and filter. i get the same thing at autozone for less then $35 and have the satisfaction of Knowing I Put A Quality Oil in my truck. i dont know about yall but i dont have $60 dollars to just throw away like that. not to mention its not a bad thing to do a little work every once and a while.

Living in Germany comes at a cost. Especially when it comes to maintenance on my '09 Silverado. Just out of curiosity I took my truck to the local Opel dealer (part of GM) and showed them the maintenance schedule for 10,000 Miles. He returned with a bill of over $400. I kindly thanked him for his time and went by the parts store on base to get the things I needed. The great thing about living in Germany is I have hooked up with a Germany family who ONLY works on GM products. They curse all German owned brands and only work on Opels. Considering I drive the pennical of Amercian utility, the have graciously accepted me as part of the family. Along with that comes 2 fully stocked garrages, with lifts, pnumatic tools, and gathering crowds to whatch the truck on the lift.
** Do it your self. Its much more fun...at least in Germany!**

I presume that cheap shot is at me. I've been doing oil changes and brake jobs since I was 10, so I've got some experience. If I wanted to just change the oil, I could be done in 20 minutes. But I do a full grease job too. That's 11 fittings, and the last three (Pitman arm, idler arm) are not much fun. Plus, I grease the front driveshaft, check the fluids in my transfer case and two differentials. While I'm at it, I usually rotate the tires too. And this is all in the driveway, no lift.
If you've got a way to pull the oil filter off a 350 in an IFS truck without giving the front driveshaft a bath, I'm all ears.
By the way, there's an apostrophe in "that's", a Y and O in "your", CAPITAL I and apostrophe in "I'm". And I have to presume you meant "less THAN 30"
Have a pleasant day.:-)

I have always used Valvoline. I used Duralube until about 75,000 miles and have used high mileage blend since. My 2001 Silverado 4.3 now has 213,000 miles and doesn't burn any oil.

I use a taller wash bucket with the lift, doesn't splash that way. The crossover pipe is the mess maker when I change the oil. The oil shoots out and hits the lower half and that propels it another 4-6 inches:no:. I have to move the bucket with the oil until it stops hitting the exhaust and then wipe it down.

Thanks for the tip on the wash bucket. I'll have to try that next time.

I change my own oil. Use Mobil one or Amsoil synth. I believe the oils are better than they used to be and synth can go 10,000 miles without issue. I had Amsoil tested a couple times at 10,000 miles and it was good to go more.

Right now I take it in and have it done.. I can't get under it right now, I had a bad motorcycle wreck last June 1st and broke both arms , Had my right shoulder replaced and pins and plates in my left wrist..I can do some things but crawling under the truck isn't one of them at this time. but I will have to fix the door handle and line the door up. The shop wants to much money. And at least I can stand up to fix those problems.

Do it myself. On 3 vehicles. The truck is the new member of the family. It got oil change and trasn fluid change at the dealer before I bought it. I have no idea what they put in it. So I'll be doing it soon. Royal Purple with K&N or M1 oil filter, just like the Vette gets. At least this thing I can just crawl under. Try doing that with a Vette

My time is worth something so I take and have it done. I used to do it myself.
only genuine GM oil and filters are used on my truck !!
i have found to get good will repairs from GM are much better if you have maintance records and oil records from the dealer..
had a ring and pinion go out on my 2003 with 56000 miles on it my dealer went to there service rep with gm and got aproval for all parts and 50% of the loabor since i could prove a perfect maintence record starting with the first oil change at the dealer 3000 miles after i bought it..
i keep a folder with recipts of every dollar i spent on the truck...and now with my 2006 i have it on paper as well as on a computer program that starts off with the amount paid for it all the wat to 59 cent turn signal bulb...im told im to much of a prefexitest in maintain the truck and records to prove it..
but when i go to sell them there is a line of people fighting over my toy because they will get a truck that is great shape and ready to start working with records to prove it and the records go with the truck..
