could be any of the pulleys take the belt off and spin them by hand feel for resistance, rough, or loose and replace as necessary, for the tensioners test the tensioner spring by trying to move it, if there is a lot of slop replace it or if it isn't operating smoothly

start buy replacing the belt first.

if it isnt that..... look into the other stuff first.

ATTN this can be dangerous. take a long screwdriver phillip of flat and put it on the bolt that holds the tensioner pulley on if you hear a grinding noise that is the culprit if it sounds smooth and very little noise move to your idler then the altenator. DO NOT replace the belt for you have not fixed the problem yet and will be doing it again. Also you can try just taking the belt off and wiggling the pulleys and tensioner to feel for play. YOU MUST FIRST DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM OR YOU WILL BE DOING THIS AGAIN

This is what I would do.

I can almost guarantee its the belt. I had the same problem on my Dakota R/T.

Maybe someone through a supercharger in there while you weren't looking? Lol ok jokes aside I agree that it sounds like a belt.

It could be the alternator. I have an 08 silverado and I've had it in 4 times for a bad squeal in the engine compartment and i'm about to take it in for the 5th time. It happeneds when the engine is cold and the air tempature is below 65. Also when it is really humid. They are going to have to do something or i'm getting a new truck from them.
