View Full Version : 04 suburban 2500 transfer case source and compatibility

i'm buying an 04 suburban 2500 with the 8.1L that has a grenaded transfer case (np-246-gm) with the auto 4wd button. its coupled to a 4L80E. anyone know what years of other trucks would have a compatible transfer case? anyone have a source where i could get one?

my local chevy dealer says these cannot be purchased whole as a complete unit from gm. i was hoping to buy a new one from gm and have the dealer install it so it would have a warranty but that doesn't seem possible at this point so i guess i'm gonna have to do it.

Do you know what's wrong with your case? Many transmission shops rebuild them.

yes. it has a huge hole in the side of it. doesn't matter now. i let someone else buy it.

Any 2001-2007 Suburban/YukonXL would use the same transfer case regardless of which motor it had. Get a hold of either Eric at Merchant auotomotive or Riverside gear. Both these guys are whizzes with GM transfer cases. I'm sure they probably have one, get you one or tell you where to find one.
