I just puchased a 1999 Suburban 1500 with 350 engine. When I am towing a trailer do I tow it in Overdrive or 3rd gear?

I use overdrive only when I'm on flat terrain. Otherwise 3rd especially on a grade. It also depends on the trailer I tow the wave runners in OD. You didn't mention what size trailer.

I have towed two cars with my suburban so with trailer and car weight it was over 6000lbs each time, both times I was in OD unless I was about to go up or down a grade of any kind.

Welcome to the site! Depending on the size and weight of the trailer determines if I run mine in 3rd.

Welcome to the site! Whenever I've towed with mine, I use O/D unless it starts downshifting a lot. I also use the Tow Haul mode on the tranny. I'm not sure if the '99s had that or not.

If you dont have the tow haul mode I would agree with most the others. OD if its flat and not shifting much. but go to 3rd in the hills.
