View Full Version : Driver Information Center - Upgrade your Silverado in 5 minutes

Do you have a Chevy Silverado but DON'T have the cool buttons that let you see everything in your two-line "odometer" area such as Fuel Economy, Tire Pressure, Transmission temp. and more?
If you don't have the buttons, and you have a new body style 2007-2010 Chevy Silverado, you simply have to add a new panel and the buttons to activate what is already on your truck!
I worked out a deal with www.gmpartsclub.com (http://www.gmpartsclub.com) to sell the Driver Information Center for $79.99 each plus $7.99 shipping via UPS ground. This price is good through the end of September 2009, so hurry and place your order.
SILVERADO DRIVER INFORMATION CENTER - Panel and switch - #19159438
The part number is the same for any GMT900 vehicle listed in this thread, but specifically for the Chevy Silverado and GMC Sierra the part is the same for 2007 through 2010 and we have tested it on all the vehicles inclduing the WT.
Make certain to order using the link below as this part comes from the accessories catalog, not the regular OEM catalog. Other vendors charge a lot more for this and one claims to be cheaper but they are double the shipping costs.

I got confirmation that the DIC switch DOES work on all of the New Body Style Chevy Silverados from 2007 to 2010.
That includes
- the WT (Work Truck)
- the LS
- and all of the LT packages.
It should cover all of the GMT900 series vehicles - that is this list of vehicles (New Body Style).

Sierra
Hummer H2
Tahoe
Yukon
Escalade
Suburban
Yukon XL

I think we're going to do even better than that. To prove that we're dedicated to being known for high-quality, great service AND low prices ... we're going to sell these Driver Information Center (DIC) kits for ...
$74.99 SHIPPED (Standard Ground Shipping is Free) - 2007 to 2010 Chevy Silverado Driver Information Center
That includes the replacement panel, the switch and a instruction sheet for installation. The MSRP on this was $100 and the cheapest we've seen it at a delivered price is in the mid-to-upper $80 range, most are in the low $90 range and dealers are often at $100, so this is a great chance for everyone on GMTruckClub to get to know the guys at GMPartsClub.com.
We'll honor this deal through the end of September and we may in fact have to order more DIC kits in to cover demand, but we're one of the biggest GM parts distributors in North America, so it's more likely that we'll have the buying power to get these units in.
PLUS, we're located in Dallas, Texas so we can ship East or West ground and it will cut your deliver time in half as we ship until 5 PM Central time daily and we're here from 7 AM until 6 PM daily and 8 AM to 2 PM on Saturday to take your phone calls and questions.
Give us a call and let us know you came from GMTruckClub -- 877-347-6220

We're having some issues with the free shipping in the system, we'll work on that tonight and have it live as soon as possible. We might just lower the price and charge for shipping ... we'll see. Either way, it's the same total cost to you.

Looks like we can't mark Free Shipping in this system, so we're going to cut the price down to $68.99 and charge $6.00 for standard ground shipping. You can get 2nd day if you want for an extra cost, or if you're local to DFW you can drive to Dallas to pick-up at Friendly Chevrolet (order online only and make a note of will-call in the notes) ... but you might spend more in gasoline than you save in shipping.
Should be good to go now.

That's awesome, we've already got a lot of traffic over these items (and in general), and have have a good number of the GM Part #19159438 DIC in stock right now, but we probably will sell-out pretty quickly at this price, so I suggest that if you want one, you get your order in asap to ensure that we can ship it out the next day to you.

Just FYI, Friendly Chevrolet is one of the biggest (and oldest) dealers in the Dallas area and they have one of the best reputations for being honest and fair with customers. This looks like a new site, but becuase it comes from Friendly, I have zero worries.

It's plug and play, just pull the panel off, unhook two clips ... put the new panel on and plug back in.
If you wanted to do a race, you could do it in maybe 90 seconds with no tools.
By hand, gently remove the dash trim piece that is left of the steering wheel.
Remove the light control switch and dimmer switch, they are just held in with clips.
There are two unused cables connected to the back of the trim piece, these are the ones you will be using for your DIC controller.
Plug the clips into the DIC module in your new panel.
That's it, you're done.

Wow, we sold out of these units! We're officially in backorder status for the DIC units.
We have another order placed, not sure when we will receive them. I think that we will sell out of those as soon as it comes in also, so place your order now if you want to get one of them when they come in (knowing that we're having a hard time getting enough supply). Clearly this is a case where we're going to have to put pressure on GM to start building more of these so we can sell more.
Again, we have SOLD OUT of the DIC units as of 9/21/09 and we have another order placed but we can not ship until supply reaches up to demand.

Just a note to everyone who placed an order for the DIC ... all but two or three will ship today, and those we will have to hunt around for. However, we will do whatever it takes to care of you even if we lose money on the deal and get you the parts that you ordered.

Thanks for the order, we saw it come in. Hope you saw the message from 10:00 AM this morning, we're waiting for more supply to come in as we SOLD OUT of this item due to overwhelming response!
We'll keep taking the orders at this price as long as people keep the orders coming in ... even if we lose money on the deal we're in this for the long run. Our official GM supplier has us on order, but we have not gotten a good shipping date, it will not be this week but we'll keep everyone posted as I feel we could sell 10,000 of these if we have enough supply.

I know you guys talked about it showing mpg, but will it show when my truck switches to 4cyl mode?
If your truck has the Active Fuel Management (AFM) then it will show you if you are in 4cyl mode and it will show you your current active MPG. So if you are coasting down a large hill, it will show you at 99 MPG, but if you floor it when towing a trailer up a large hill then it will show you 6 MPG. It's pretty slick.

Yeah, it's tied into the instrument cluster regardless of the engine type. You won't see the engine management stuf that's only for the gas displacement on demand, because the Duramax doesn't offer that, but you should see everything else.

Without seeing the DIC unit itself, is the an extra connector for a total of three? i looked on my 09 WT and only found the the harnes to the dome light and the head lights. I looked for another that branched off but couldnt locate.
Steve
10-29-2009, 10:00 AM
There is an extra connector that is plugged into a dead plug on your panel. There should be a total of two connectors. One for the lights and one that goes into a dead plug, which now goes into the DIC.

The install went awesome, took the airbag off, cut the hole for the controls in the steering wheel, screwed it in. conected the 4 wires to the harness that is already there, and wolaaa! Switced out my vinyl steering wheel with black acents, to a leather wraped one with silver plates.
The only bad thing is my air bag light is on and the DIC says "SERVICE AIR BAG" going to take it to dealer in the morning to get it reset. It's got to be becasue of unhooking the airbag and hooking it back up..I hate all this new computer stuff.

I received mine, today, and installed it, a few minutes ago. It does take longer than suggested (94 seconds!), but I was being extra careful.
There are only two wire bundles in my '09 Silverado; one for the light switch, and one for the DIC. I did need the key to pry the light switch out, but I managed to avoid hurting myself.
One complaint, though: the packing material (ExpandOS) tends to create some dust, and actually marred the finish on my panel. It's not horrible, but, if the plastic panel was wrapped in something, it would fare better during shipping.
All in all, a great upgrade, a great deal, and great service! And, it comes from the best (and my favorite) place in the whole wide world, the home of the Cowboys NFL football club, Dallas, Texas!
Thanks!

very nice. i just don't understand why it doesn't just come with it from factory if you just need to activate it........... still don't get it. it would be a HUGE selling point even on a WT. when i got my LT i thought it would come with it but didn't, but factory sells it as an option in Canada for like $700 in a package. but buying the truck and spending $79.99 is a great deal. thanks. real nice find!

what all does this do does it tell gas mileage
On my '09 Z71 LT, it added "instant fuel economy", which shows the current mileage. This can be misleading, because, when coasting downhill at ~65 mph, it shows 99 mpg! It also added average fuel economy, which I suppose is an aggregate average of overall mpg. My '05 Dakota allowed me to reset this statistic, which lets you compare fuel economy from one tank to another, or under different conditions, over the course of a tank, or several tanks. Anyone know how to reset the average economy? The DIC also gives you "miles to empty", but I'm not sure how accurate it is. It starts complaining about "low fuel" when it's still showing ~50 miles to empty, but I haven't tested to see how far it will really go!
The DIC also added current tire pressure readings, which is mostly what I wanted it to do. It added an interface to change some functions, such as the length of time the lights stay on after locking the doors (0, 1 minute, or 2 minutes, I believe), the conditions under which the doors will unlock after turning off the engine (when shifted to "Park", when key is turned off, or when key is removed from ignition, I think), whether or not the horn will beep when you lock the doors with the remote, and how the door locks respond to the remote keyless entry (whether one, or both, doors unlock).
I'm pretty sure I already had temperature readings and the compass before adding the DIC, so I can't say whether these functions will be added by the switch.

Does any one know if this unlocks the Temperature and Compass in a 2010 Sierra work truck? When I turn my truck on it warns me of ice so i know there is a thermometer in my truck

Hi All,
Just joined the forum as I have just got my first truck. This looks exactly like what I NEED!!
My truck is a 2007 Sierra 2500HD CLASSIC with the Duramax. From the info I have read, this mod will fit both Silverado and Sierra, however the picturs on installation show a different panel from what is in my vehicle as the 4WD buttons are where the DIC buttons will go. Is there a mod available for my vehicle? Is the harness in palce for this mod, if so could I just add the switches and put them somewhere else or is it just not possible to access the extended DIC functions in this model.
Thanks
Wooly

I just ordered mine today for my 07 new body style silverado. I missed these features as I had them on my old body 06 silverado LT. I like the fuel range and fuel economy as well as being able to change your lighting and locking settings. I cant wait to get it and install! I will keep my old one as a spare.

I sure will. The funny thing is that I already replaced that panel several months ago. I bought a used one on ebay because the idiot that inspected my truck scratched the heck out of it with the scraper tool. I wish I would have know about this then LOL. anyway cant wait to have those features agian. Thanks for the good price.

This is GM's dirty little secret. The DIC will work on ANY 2007 + New Body Style Silverado, Avalanche, Tahoe, Suburban, etc. Just get it, plug it in, and you're good.

ok, Super fast shipping!! :happy::happy::rofl:
I got mine Friday afternoon and installed in right away. I love it. I was able to change some of my driver setting which i could not do before. I am able to see my tire pressue now, my avg fuel economy. I like to leave it on the instant fuel so that way i can see when it switches from V8 to V4 mode. pretty cool. Im glad I found this on the forum. Good price. I will buy again!
Thanks

Received the part today. Installation took less than 5 minutes including the time to open the box and sort through the peanuts. :)
Thank you!
Just ordered this from the club and got it last night, great price. Went to install today and I have no wiring for it???? 2010 Silverado 1500 LT. I have some info available by pushing the odometer panel button but thought this was an add on to that. Do I have to remove the instrument cluster to get to the wiring / connector?? Really want to continue with this install while the dash is apart so if someone could chime in today it would be a big help.

Huh, can you take a photo of what you've got? You took off the existing panel and what do you have there?
Looks like I'll be all set. My wiring was ther but no clip / connector. Not sure what happened there but I'm going to have the dealer take care of it. Must have been a rush job!!!

The listing for part number 19159438 says "Not For Use on LT Models, Includes Instrument Panel Trim Plate". I put this part in my 2010 GMC Sierra SL (SL should be the same at the LT) and the plug was there.
