I've got a crack in my exhaust manifold.. so I was thinking of installing some cheap headers and dual (flowmaster knockoff) muflers straight back with no cats

Summit G9006 Headers, Full-Length, Steel, Painted, Chevy/GMC, SUV/Pickup, Small Block, Pair

Thrush 17656 high flow muffler

In all about $160 for headers and two mufflers delivered.

I've got an 87 c10 305 TBI. Anybody install these? Good fit? easy install? Nice sound? durable?

BTW, I can't find the cat in my stock install..where would it be and what does it look like?

Thanks for any help or information.

I'm not quite sure that 87 c10's came with cats, if it's there it should be some what of a football shaped almost muffler looking chunk of pipe. It would be before the mufflers and more than 2 feet from the headers. If there's not cat there, leave it that way. You'll get a better tone and power from just running pipe and mufflers.

Also, keep in mind that with headers you have to keep replacing gaskets. Stock manifolds don't use any gaskets which saves money from having to replace them.

You get what you pay for, just remember that. I am not gonna say they are junk but they are cheap for a reason.

Stock manifolds DO use gaskets. Once installed they will seal forever and you can probably reuse them whereas headers are finickey and cheap ones always leak and crack. get another manifold from the junkyard and fix your timing already!!
