Here in Mansfield, Texas. Gas right now is about $1.85/gallon for regular unleaded.

I'm just curious what other people in the country are paying.

It's close to $2.00 here in Sandpoint, Idaho. Maybe because it's so remote up here.

Most places up in the Seattle area are about $2.15-2.20. I have seen it as low as about $2.05 in the recent past.

TWO OH FIVE in Orlando!

TWO OH FIVE for one gallon of gas. That's crazy. I wanted to stick a paper bag over the nozzle to catch the gas vapors.

Aeropagus

It's more than that up here in the mountains. I seem to remember looking at $2.25 and thinking it was a good deal.

same down here in bama. Some places are like $1.95 still, most are creeping near $2.00+

HAH! I do not even want to begin to discuss gas costs. I drive a bunch so I have to pay like $50/week for gas with these new gas prices. That's like $225/month or $2500/year! In GAS! Makes me cry almost.

Everyone is living in cheapville.

Some parts of Orange County are getting near $2.50 per gallon. You heard me. That's $2.50 per gallon!

Oy, vay!

I'm doing 3 tanks a week at $2.05 in NY!!!!

Steve
03-14-2005, 12:12 AM
$2.50 in Orange County? That's nuts. I lived out there 10 years ago and it was expensive to live there then.

Rich, how far are you driving to have to fill up 3 X per week?

That's crazy in Cali. I always swore that I'd break out the 10 speed before I'd pay that much for gas, but that was a long time ago when I was in better shape. :-)

I fear that the gas prices might hit $3.00/gallon in California. They'll start producing some more hybrids then, huh?

gas is pretty expensive out here in Southern California. I never expect to pay less than $2.50/gallon. That's kinda sad, but it's really not THAT bad. It beats taking the bus.

Steve
03-27-2005, 10:58 AM
There are still a few gas stations in town that are under $2.00, but for the most part everyone is over $2.00 now. :-(

very expensive in Idaho. it used to be pretty cheap here, like in the late 1990s there was a price war on gas and it was costing like $.85/gallon. Then with all this stuff going on now, we're getting raped!

I'm glad that I'm on campus, becuase it's like $2.10 in town now. Idaho is better for gas that Washington though. They've got more tax on there, like an extra $.10/gallon. So people from WSU in Pullman come to Moscow to gas up.

Just wondering if it's only been in Texas or what. But gas prices are DOWN like $.10 over the past week or so.

I saw gas for like $2.08 the other day, just curious if other people are seeing this.

Gas has stayed pretty stable out here in cali. It's high. That's all there is too it.

Steve
05-20-2005, 11:10 PM
I heard on the radio this afternoon that gas in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area is expected to drop another $.03 this weekend. The commentator said that he bought some gas in Dallas for $2.01/gallon.

That would be something. It's funny how I don't quibble about paying $20.00 for a couple of pizzas, but I whine and cry when the gas goes up $.10/gallon!

Steve
06-10-2005, 03:33 PM
Gas prices have been pretty stable around here actually. It's just right around $2.00/gallon.

Willing to trade. That nice weather you are talking about it has been over 100 every day for the last week and at 10 pm it is still around 90. thrilling. I want cheaper gas like all of you. It isn;t fair just because I like in LA means I pay more, it isn't like I get paid more out here.

It has come down a bit here in Miami- went from $2.65 to $3.03 last week, now $2.99 is a good find. They're saying that they anticipate the prices to continue to drop (probably to the $2.50 mark) due to the fact that several countries around the world released their oil reserves to help with Hurricane Katrina.

I didn't think he cared about refineries I know he mentioned oil feilds but I don't think that will help. you got to remember he's an oil man. its more to it they not telling us, but I think the refineries is one major key.

Gas between 5.50 and 6.30/gallon depending on octane 95 or 98.

Kroger's grocery store had a program where if you spent $100 in groceries, you got $.10/gallon discount (up to a certain number of gallons I think). Anhow, I paid $2.01/gallon yesterday becuase of it. Nice to see prices that low again.

Steve
01-13-2007, 02:49 PM
Don't forget that Walmart is giving $.03/gallon discount if you use their credit card, or a Walmart gift card. So if you have to fill up something like a boat or a bunch of vehicle, it's worth it to run inside to buy some gift cards and then go out and pay at the pump with those cards right away.

Over a long trip, or over time that can really save some money.

TrailLeadr

I drive about 2000 miles a month and have definitely found it worthwhile to get a Citibank credit card that gives 5% back on all gas and grocery purchases. I got one for each member of the family (4 of us....all the same account) and we just all pitch in our part when the bill comes in. Also, here in RI we have Super Stop and Shop grocery stores with gas stations. Often you get a 10 cent off per gallon coupon ... combine that with the other 5% from the credit card and its almost affordable!

Man...I must really be getting old. I started driving in high school back in the late 50s...my first car was a '41 Ford coupe. Gas was 18 cents a gallon for regular and 21 cents for "ethyl". Now I drive an '06' Suburban and a Mercedes and am paying $2.53 a gallon for unleaded in La Quinta, CA (Palm Springs).

01-13-2007, 09:17 PM
Hi all, gas prices just dropped here in the Grand Rapids area to around 1.99/gal. They have been in the 2.29 price range. I was paying 40 cents a gal when I started driving back in the late 60's.

I tend to drive the 6 banger car rather than the Tahoe these days. I find I can help the mileage on both vehicles by staying around 55 mph on the country roads around here. I also try to play the lights. If the traffic light is red, I coast to it rather than drive up to it and hit the brakes. Braking is lost energy and fuel economy. For me, a little more driving time saves me money and stress too.

dwill3015
01-13-2007, 10:46 PM
I'm jealous because in Washington state, Fuel prices are outrageous with the average price of unleaded being $2.69, and I paid $2.85 for diesel fuel just today.

Our gas prices just came down to $1.99 a gal. Not sure how long they will be there, but you can rest assured that I will be filling up!

We also have a grocery store here called Giant Eagle. They offer $.10 off a gal for every $50 spent in groceries or gift cards. So I go in, buy gift cards and then spend the gift cards (they encouage this). I bought a dishwasher at BestBuy for $800 using these giftcards, that was $1.60 off a gal of gas. You can only get up to a max of 30 gallons of gas per transaction, but it's nice to be only paying around $.40 for a gallon of gas.

Steve
01-14-2007, 12:43 PM

Argh, what's going on? Gas just jumped up again to about $2.10/gallon! That's an insane jump in the past couple of weeks. :frown:

Crude has soared, due to the cold weather and OPEC reducing production and threatening to do so further, reaching almost $60 a barrel. As a result gas is going up too. NO need for it as supplies are at levels not seen since the highs of the late 90's for crude, gas, and distillates but greed is a powerful factor. Speculators have just been waiting for something to give them a reason to drive prices up yet again.

OPEC is partly to blame for this as well. They claimed crude should trade between $45 and $50 when it was in the $70+ range but once it fell back into the $50 range, and briefly into the high $40's, they changed their stance and cut production claiming $60 was a fair market price( BS! ).

It finally got cold in the Northeast and coupled with the OPEC cuts and other geopolitical issues crude prices, and products refined from crude, are soaring. Throw into the mix yet another threat of violence and worker strikes in Nigeria and the ever continuing Iran issue and prices will probably go well past $60 and very soon. Another big factor is the refineries reduced production, dropping from the mid 90% capacity range to the mid 80% range. They didn't want supplies to build anymore to keep those record profits rolling in.

Bottom line is crude drives the price of gas. Right now there is a good $20-$25, and maybe more, on the price p/barrel that is BS and being driven by fear and/or artificially manipulated. Too many people are making too much money for prices to ever again be reasonable. Right now the horse has taken the bit so to speak and who knows when prices will moderate, level off, and drop back. Heck, they may not do so before next fall as spring and the summer driving season is just around the corner.

I imagine gas will hit $3.50-$4.00 this summer( local price - hit $3.10 last year for a high ). If we get anothe rhurricane we are really screwed. NO real shortage of crude or refined products. More a made up hysteria to keep prices up and keep the rich getting richer.

Prices in North Florida are definitely going up. I live in JAX and am paying between 2.15 and 2.20. I can go across the line into South Georgia and pay as little as 1.99 or 2.05. Fortunately my job takes me up that way regularly.

Here in W. Michigan gas prices range from 2.19 to 2.38. In Grand Rapids the price stays pretty steady but in our small town of Hastings, the price will be up and down 3 or more times during the week. Of course, the weekends or the hint of bad weather makes the price rise but it's not price gouging according to our political leaders. Holidays really make the price jump. Can't wait for Valentine's Day. Should be 3 bucks for that day.

Funny how gas prices jump as soon as oil prices do.

But when oil prices go down we don’t see the immediate drop in price, like we see the the immediate rise in prices.

I personally think the oil companies are screwing us.

Oil went below $60 dollars a barrel and gas never went below $2 a gallon up here.

I really blame the middle man.

Hey what's going on fellas and ladies...I'm in Southern Cali and gas prices havn't been lower than 2.30 since hurricanie Katrina. They say Cali needs a special blend of gas' and the reserve for cali isn't what it should be. But I also read that everything was fine and dandy for, that gas prices start going up before something even happens, to be on the safe side. So if nothing ever happens, they still keep they're money and gas prices only drop by pennies. Since last week they went from 2.37 to 2.53. In Just 1 WEEK!!! That's outragous, I can't believe these gas companies are doing this to the people. They raked in billions of dollars overall, and about millions in net profits!!! The price per barrell was at about $57. They saw the profits they made last year, so this year they saw the profits go down, but it wasn't due to loss of business, it was due to gas going back down. I drove to bakersfield and gas was 2.17/gal of 87 octane, came back to Southern Cali outside of LA in the San Fernando Valley, and gas was 2.42....I don't know but I think it's wrong. and by the way, it's not that we're winers, it's because this country produces enough supply to keep prices down, but they don't politicians don't do anything about it...maybe 'cause they're getting a cut of the pie "wink, wink" Bush loves his oil!!!

Hey guys,

This summer gas was $1.24 a litre. Whats that in green backs?
It`s been in the 90`s lately. Gas is usually .10 cents more per litre than in Ontario.
Question? I`ve had 3 olds Delta 88`s over the years, my latest is from Florida.
The other 2 got around 600klm per tank (ontario cars), this one gets 480 per tank. I was in florida last April with it and it got 650 per tank. I thought it was a computer thing, so I swaped in one from toronto but still get the same millage. Is there something else that could be causing this?

Yeah, but for countries like Sweden, it's a whole different game. You're taxes are high on products like gas/diesel (and everything else, from what I understand) and that's offset by government services. In the US, the tax rate is climbing and some states tax fuel (or rebate if you're in a corn growing state)

yepp and that dosent make me any happier when i´m at the pump and according these taxes that are extremely high here in sweden ( and it is alot like u say gonvernment services ) but theres also a HUGE amount money yust runing round in the system and never does any good for the people ,,
we pay ca 90 % in tax per liter here in sweden right now , earlyer when they introduced E-85 they did sell that fuel taxfree so u can guess how manny that runed there gascars on e-85 .. it works fine if u mix gasoline and e-85 and even with a small adjust /rebuild u can run a gasolinecar on 100% E-85 without and damage , , well the sweish government was chocked by the fakt that so manny did run E-85 instead of gas so there lost in less taxes where huge , today we got lots of tax even on E-85 and there not any loonger as intresting to run E-85 in any other was they that E-85 is afar better fuel then gas and u can setup your car for lots of moore performace then with gasoline

this BS that they tries to make people to run cleaner cars ar thre as loong as loong as they wont lose any money out of it ( sad but thrue ) this sooooks

They tried to cover every zip code available, but it depends greatly on the users of the board to keep the information accurate, and updated.

I'd say it's a pretty good resource, and usually accurate. My suggestion is to collect the info on the best 3-5 prices. This way if the place with the best price changes mid-day, you're not stuck hunting around for something better.

Actually saw $2.99 for 87 here! Not even Memorial Day and already they have it at $3. Yet crude is only selling at $63 today. 3 weeks back when crude was $63 gas was $2.30. Gas is going up 5-15 cents a day here steady.

Face it guys this is all gouging and has nothing to do with supply and demand or anything other than they can do what they want and they are doing just that. There are people that make a lot of money in the stock market who are able to influence information to drive traders crazy and drive up crude so they make more $$$. The gas companies manipulate supply by cutting back refining capacity and/or "unplanned maintenance/shutdowns" when inventories begin to build.

How many of you know that this past winter and early spring( just like the last couple years actually )there were countless "unplanned shutdowns" or "refinery outages" over problems whenever supplies would really start to build? They always lasted a week or two until the prices rebounded and then they would suddenly be fixed. Funny but you almost never see this happen during the peak season when the refineries are running at full bore and would be more prone to problems. Nope, they always seem to happen in the off season when supply is building and prices dropping.

Also, do you realize that the refineries were only running at 80-85% of capacity( at one point it had dropped to like 78% )instead of the 95-97% they run at in the summer? Instead of running the refinieries in the 88- 90% range in the off season to build supply and keep prices level, which would let them run them at the same level during peak season because there would be adequate supply, they intentionally cut back so supply stays limited. Total supply manipulation to keep prices up. IMO this should fall under the new Federal Anti Gouging laws but no one in authority has the sack to do something.

This has become a famous ploy of theirs to keep prices up and drive them higher and higher. Whenever supplies begin to build and prices retreat they suddenly report problems or unplanned maintenance at key refinieries which = INSTANT $5 to crude and $.50 to refined products on the market. When prices drop significantly, and for more than a day or two, someone somewhere that benefits from either the cost of a barrel of crude or from refined products manipulates key information or industry to raise the prices back up. The info is there for someone who could do something to use if they just would.

Just pay attention to the market and whenever things start to go good for the consumer( ie; crude and thus refined products like gas, diesel, heating oil )you will see the manipulation start. I have been following it now for 3 years and it is like a soap opera. Just a predictable soap opera.

Yes, crude supplies and demand have got a lot closer but it is NOT as bad as some claim. This is all greed and manipulation of events and product to keep prices high. ExxonMobil reported their highest profits EVER for the 1st qtr of this year when gas/crude prices had retreated to $2.00 & $50 respectively. SO they still raked it in even with prices lower. No one is going to convince me that $3 gas is not artificially high. Until we get some politicians with some backbone that will do something about it though we are all screwed!

84fiero123
05-04-2007, 06:37 AM
Ya we have been seeing the prices edge up to that, $2.99 last time I got gas and at those prices I can’t afford to fill up but once a month, when I get my check.

I have heard they are expecting prices to reach $4.00 a gallon. that’s here in Maine.

I’ve pretty much had it with this rich getting richer and poor getting poorer gas prices. If you own stock in Exxon or Mobil your all set, but us poor folks are just paying threw the nose.

And summer is coming, expect the prices to just keep going up.

We need to hold the gas companies accountable for this price gouging.

Gas prices here are at an all time high of 3.25 a gal. Everytime some survey mentions an increase somewhere, the Michigan gas assc. jacks up the price. Since congress has it's own banking, medical, and retirement system, I bet they also have their own fueling system too. It makes no sense to me that the oil cost have been pretty stabile but the refined products have been so unstabile. I see that the all time profits the refiners have made last year are already being bested in the first quarter of this year. Our new paper mentioned the amount of investments being made by the oil industry. While they are investing a couple of million dollars, overseas, they are taking in billions and not much of their investment is in the refineries which are aging and of course when something happen to impair one the gas prices go higher so why fix those old money makers and create more jobs here at home.

I have parked the Tahoe and will use it only for vacation towing the camper. Will be driving a 6 banger getting 28mpg and only that when absolutely necessary. No sunday drives.. Being on a fixed income, these energy cost are a lifestyle changing event. Even vacation time will be spent very close to home now.

It's odd how Louisiana, which provides something like 80%+ of the nation's gas usually has some of the highest gas prices in the US. As of now, we're right around 2.80, but still, for all the gas we're producin' we should have like 1.25 gas...Damn oil companies making record profits...

Again, for those of you who have a large impact based on fixed income spend some time researching veggie oil. There is a place here in Austin where I can buy it dewatered and filtered for $1.50/gallon. If you don't have access to this place there are filtering setups you can make for minimal $$ that will pay for themselves pretty fast if you do any sort of driving.

I'm not involved for the 'movement' aspect or much of anything else but the economics just make sense.

Well, The Price Here In Michigan Jumped From 3.29 To 3.49 A Gal. Today. I Also Heard That With The Internet Called Boycott Yesterday, Many Gas Stations Around The Grand Rapids Area Shut Off The 87 Octane And Force Customers To Buy Premium. Sure Sounds Like A Monopoly To Me Which I Believe Is Illegal But Get An Oil Funded Government To Press The Issue Is Impossible. The Reason For The Jump As Explained In The News Is That Several Refineries Have Shut Down For One Reason Or Another And That's Created A Shortage That Wall Street Jokers Have Jumped On To Drive Up The Price. Same Old Story, Just Cut Production And Hurt The Average Joe And Increase The Wealth Of The Oil Barons And Wall Street Paper Pushers. Soon Enough There Will Not Be An Average Joe To Kick Around. History Will Show Just How Corrupt This Government Has Become.

Anyone higher?? :ouch:

No wonder why i chose a car running on diesel, right? Diesel price here is now somewhere around $1,42 pr litre, that is $6,45 pr gallon!

it's around 3 40 to 3 50 in seattle metro. regular.
if you want to keep bitching about gas prices, keep buying gas guzzlers and keep buying gas. it'll get better. why i bought one? cuz i am being reimbursed for mileage. one and only reason.
there's only one, and only one way to drop the price on ANYTHING. stop buying. as far as you buy - they'll jag the price up to tolerance, then tolerance becomes norm, and they'll jag it up again. you don't buy - prices go down. can't help, it is as simple as 2 x 2=4.
by the way, 800 miles on tankful for suburban? at 20 miles to a gallon? it has a 40 gallon tank? GM almighty..... like i said - keep buying. it'll get better.

First of all some of us have a need for the gas guzzlers that we drive. Besides you're a bigger offender simply by an irresponsible standpoint. You drive a gas guzzler by choice only because you don't pay for your own gas. So in fact it's people like you who are hurting the situation. If you have a better reason for driving one such as an "actual need" please say so. Otherwise keep your "Smartass" comments to yourself if you have nothing reasonable to say. Or at least think before you type.

$3.29 in Henderson, KY.

People keep trying to get a day boycott going. Truth is, gas is delivered weekly or bi-weekly and a day really isn't very effective because people will buy the same amount of gas, either a day earlier or later. What really needs to happen is a long term boycott of a specific company. Pick the highest profitting company and boycott them for several months. That would hurt. After the first company boycott is over, move to the next highest in profit, and so on. Oil companies may not be able to do much about foreign oil prices, but you can bet that when it hit their pocket books they'd resolve the issue. You'd see more alcohol/ethanol/whatever investment immediately. Look at Brazil. They export almost all of their oil, because they use synthetic. It amazes me that a third world country is that far ahead of the US.

GM is investing billions into Ethanol plants to try and lower or at least stabilize gas prices. I saw an interview with the CEO where he was talking about SUV profit carrying the company and having to invest in Ethanol because the oil companies did not care about gas prices. He said GM is selling lots of cars, but losing SUV sales due to the high gas prices, and therefore losing the bottom line profit. He said people were blasting him for investing in Ethanol, but that if gas prices continued to rise he could not sell cars.

Your right that would be the kind of strategy needed to whoop some oil company butt. Problem is getting everybody on side, including all States and Canada. Then you'd have an oil executive melt down. It's hard to get everybody doing it though, there inlies the problem.

BTW welcome Jason

And to the post about ethanol, i was gonna purchase the 5.3L flex but for me it would be absolutely pointless considering there is no ethanol gas stations in Ontario, and i think theres like 3 in all of Canada! so why does gm even bother selling them in Canada.
