View Full Version : What's your gas mileage?

I am just curious what people get for gas mileage. I tend to get about 18 MPG and was wondering if that was about the normal amount that I should get.

Aeropagus
03-11-2005, 07:21 AM
I get about 20 MPG, but I do mostly highway driving.

StumpJumper

I get something crazy like 23+ on the freeway. I use the cruize all the time and of course, Florida is pretty flat so there aren't a bunch of hills to go up and down.

StumpJumper

Cheri,

You're in Seattle, there's a lot of hills up there huh? That's probably a factor in your 18 mpg gas mileage.

Aeropagus
03-12-2005, 10:01 AM
I live in a part of the country that has a lot of hills as well, and my gas mileage isn't as good as it is when I go somewhere that's not quite so up and down. Just part of life I guess.

18-19 MPG range for me.

Safety1

18 probably.

Clocked something like 21-22 last month for mileage.

The way that I drive, I don't get over 18 MPG

Steve
04-20-2005, 11:20 AM
I clocked it when I first bought the thing. I was averaging 18.5 MPG with a decent combo of city and highway driving. I figured that wasn't too bad at all for all that I got out of driving it. It's curious to see that other people are getting different MPGs.

russell

My 2wd Envoy only gets 16.5-17mpg here in Houston,Tx. Maybe it's the heat?

Steve
04-21-2005, 07:28 AM
Hmm, it's hot in Dallas too. Do a lot of start and stop driving down there?

russell
04-22-2005, 07:32 PM
The envoy sees it's fair share of traffic. Somtimes I-10 can be brutal ! This most definitely is the reason for the lower fuel mileage.

Chevy Girl
05-04-2005, 04:42 PM
It looks like most people are getting about the same range of gas mileage. I think it does have to depend on a lot of how you drive and how much traffic you're in.

Alright,

I am a newbie here but i want to put my two cents in after i saw Big John is from Santa Fe, i'm just a lil north of him and i have a 2005 Envoy XL. I get about 25-29 mpg!!! And i thought this mpg sucked, lol. This is no mistake, i check the mpg everytime i put gas, don't forget i put the premium gas, no cheap stuff, cuz i will get about 20-22 if i put bad gas in thurrr.

Steve
05-18-2005, 03:52 PM
That's pretty impressive if you get 25 MPG. I've never heard of anyone getting mileage anywhere near that. Do you have a hole in the floorboards and use your feet to get going to save on gas?

Chevy Girl
06-22-2005, 02:23 PM
I don't know how nesto gets that kind of milege. That's hard to beleive.

Seem to get 15mpg around town. Just took it for a road trip and got approx 21 mpg.

Cheri-
I'm in Seattle, and I get around 18mpg city and 21-22mpg highway. I have a K&N filter and an Airaid throttle body spacer as my only engine mods.

Glad to know another person from Seattle is interested in TB's!! :D

Steve
07-23-2005, 08:48 AM
I lived in Seattle for 12 years. Grew up in the Kirkland/Redmond area actually. I moved to Texas to dry out and to finish school. Took me a couple of years to do both actually! :-)

Seems to me that most people are getting about the same mileage, etc.

With the cheap stuff (87 octane), my 2003 Trailblazer here in Northern KY gets about 17mpg in the city and 21mpg on the highway.... That's a far cry better than what I got with the last truck (a 2000 Blazer) I had (which was about 13mpg in the city and 18mpg on the highway).

Steve

Ok, first I'm in PA so we got alot of hills. but I can only get 15 mpg on my 2004 Envoy. This is the extended version with a 3.42 rear axle. MPG dropped to just over 14 in winter and only does 16 on pure highway driving. My Cousin has a 2004 TB (short with 3.73 rear) and sees the same with his. Whats the secret, I'm calling the dealer next to see if there's an ECM update available. My wife is car shopping right now to trade this thing in, I kind of like it though.....

Steve
04-18-2006, 10:28 PM
Yeah, it all depends on how fast you drive, your terrain, etc. 16 on highway seems to be pretty low.

randyb2004
04-19-2006, 09:02 AM
Yea, disappointed with the MPG. We should be getting somewhere between the city/highway numbers. Radio or should I say speakers leave alot to be desired too. Anyway looks like the hills of PA win Wife is dead set on trading it in. And we don't drive that fast. her drive to work is mostly 40-45 mph back roads, not much stop and go, but not highway either.

Sprint
04-22-2006, 05:47 PM
Wow...29? and I thought I was doing good!

I recently traded my 2002 LS on an '06 LT. Although manually calculated on the '02, the best I could pull was 21+/- mpg on the highway.

The '06 has the onboard driver information center and the computer recently calculated 25 mpg, highway. I have the 3.73 axle ratio, the "shorty" version, and got that mileage with the cruise set at 60 mph.

Does anyone have the 3.21 ratio? As I do all highway driving, that is the ratio I wanted, but the dealer said his Service Department doesn't recommend it. They say the transmission will shift too often, therefore ALL his TB trucks are ordered in with the 3.73's.

I'd love to have seen what the 3.21 would pull!

Thanks,
Sprint

Gas mileage is greatly influenced by how you drive and where you're driving and if the AC is on or not.

With my 99'burb, I get the following........10-11 city, 16-18 highway. I actually get better mileage with the windows closed and the A/C running than with the windows open(drag!). Proven that a closed up car will use less gas due to less airflow disruptions and with windows open it creates an airdam(think of a parachute). Also the A/C units of today are more fuel efficient than those 10-15 years old (use less power to run).

When I tow the 19ft. travel trailer my mileage goes down to about 11-13 depending on terrain. Highest I've gotten with it was 19.5 on the highway @ 65mph, cruise set, A/C ON, 4 Adults in car with a suitcase each. Note that all mileage figures I just quoted were with the original engine. I just today got all the bugs worked out of the new installation. Let the games begin.

Larry

Steve

Yeah, there have been studies on this. ACs are very efficient these days, they don't use up all that much power compared to open window drag.

My '96 3/4 burb is getting just shy of 14mpg around town. Easy driving, no fast starts, ect.. Towing I'm getting about 9mpg depending on the terrian. Not as good as a diesel, but I don't stink and puff black smoke like a freight train going down the road either.

Steve
12-20-2006, 11:34 PM
Does anything think they get better mileage in the winter when they don't use A/C?

Grynder
12-21-2006, 09:11 AM
'03 2500HD 4x4 with an 8.1L bigblock...............8-10 MPG no matter empty or towing.
But it sits most of the time, we only use it for towing or camping so it doesnt hurt too bad.

Sorry for being gone so long, but i guess the discussion is still fuel mileage, well to let you know i have been working on the water/hydrogen gas thing and believe it or not you can get better mileage with a fuel booster of hydrogen gas from water and its a simple device that can be installed on any engine, i went from 28+ to 35+ miles per gallon with a mayonaise jar of water and alittle stainless steel mig welding wire in the jar wrapped around a piece of plastic, there is a web site that if your interested, can be forwarded to you to build your own, and then lets see the results on the web site, my email address is stevenbare@comcast.net if anyone is interested.

Alcohol content in your fuel makes a BIG difference. Alcohol has a lot less power than gasoline. Your fuel mileage will drop quite a bit if they are watering down your gasoline with ethanol. Look at the signs on the pump (how I wish they would put the information so I could see it before I pull in and read the fine print).

slidemansailor
04-21-2008, 08:43 PM
Oh yeah, I'm getting 17-19 mpg ... the lower number is with studded snow tires commuting 22 miles each way across the windy, snow-covered prairie to a snow-covered mountain top. I'm hoping the switch back to regular rubber along with the improved weather might get me to 20.

Which reminds me, my base elevation is 3,200 ft. That, too, makes a big difference. Sea-level fuel economy is better than in the thinner air.

ppettit2005
07-02-2008, 10:39 AM
I'm getting approx 16 mpg here in texas, which is pretty flat, I guess my gas is watered down with ethanol mostly because I just buy whatever gas I can afford. I just want more MPG. at this point I want to tune/chip the transmission in order to get more MPG's, it's that or I turn my old tahoe into something out of a MAD MAX Movie. You know, parts removed in order to reduce weight and improve gas mileage, BIG 55 gallon drums in the back filled with gas plumbed into my fuel system. yeah I think I could pull that look off, I mean I'm already half way there with all of the paint and body issues I constantly have to fix on my truck.

Some governmental agencies require ethanol. You may not be able to buy full-power gasoline anywhere in those areas. In other regions, the ethanol is particular to different manufacturers. When they have diluted the gasoline with ethanol, it (I think) will say so on the pump (85% ethanol - for your good health or some BS). It is worth a couple of miles per gallon, and therefore real money out of your pocket to find full-power gasoline if it is available in your area.

Well it's winter now. The gas is cheap ($1.79) and my mpg has plummeted mostly from warming it up and my use of A4WD. I get about 16mpg.

I average 18 mpg around town in stop and go traffic and 22 + hwy depending on how well i keep my foot out of it. I am getting ready to double that though with the addition of a hydrogen add on. There is a lot of data to gather for that though so it may be a while. I'll start a thread on that once i get it going and provide updates so that others can benefit from my trials and errors.

I have a stock 07 Silverdo Classic Z71 5.3 and 3:42 gears. On a recent trip to WV I got 22mpg hwy and I get a little over 13 in the city. That is with regular gas, with the E85 she gets quite a bit less.

Hi,
I just joined the forum last week after buying a used 2008 Siverado 1500 Ext Cab 5.3L Auto 2wd witha Jason camper shell. Very pleased to have burned a tank of gas and getting 20.4 mpg. 2/3 driving on the interstate. But I did not go over 70 mph on the highway, which was easy to do as I was enjoying the nice ride.

Hey mabye you should have watched mith busters. The Ac on or off makes not diffrence in your fuel milage. I just wanted to make that point,
