View Full Version : 2007 NBS rear end slips???

I've noticed about once every couple of months that my rear end feels like it slips on acceleration from a dead stop. The surface is dry, gravel/rock free. The traction light does not come on either. Not a serious problem, but enough for me to ask.

Are you sure it's the rear end and not the tranny? It might be that eaton setting in place but i don't know why it would do that on just gravel

I only ruled out tranny cause dealership said tranny is good. They haven't heard many complaints on this matter. My brother in law said he's noticed this twice in two months with his new Silverado. Just fishing for more ideas. Thanks

Can you better describe what it is doing? Rear ends are all gears, so they rarely slip, unless there are teeth missing from the gears (and then I wouldn't expect it to be only once every couple of months). And then they often make noise to go with the broken teeth. This scenario should be obvious if you remove the diff cover and visually inspect it.
Automatic transmissions are more suspect with slipping, because they use hydraulics, clutches, and bands, which are prone to "slipping". Did the truck act up for the dealership when you had it in? It's really hard for a technician to declare something bad if it doesn't act up for him consistently (which a "once every 2 months" kind of problem might do).
Could it possibly be an engine hesitation kind of thing?

might be your torque converter. I have been told that they are having problems with them on the nbs.

Do you actually feel a "slip" or does the "rear end break lose" on take off and spin? I just wanted to be clear is all.
My '09 will spin with little accelation at times, usually only when the road is damp..then the eaton kicks in and it grabs. I was just wondering if that "may" be what you are feeling?
I know most of the tires that come many of them dont have very good traction, unless you get the mud and snows as standard equipment. I have the all seasons on mine and I know they wont be worth a darn when winter hits.

Actually, when accelerating from a dead stop, the rpms increase, and then, like letting out a clutch in kinda lunges foward. Doesnt happen very often.
Ive been given a couple ideas from gm mechanics that, 1) this is normal, due to vehicle placement at take off, ie. if wheels are turned, on a up grade or down grade, that the different forces affect the torque converters reaction. 2) Transmission fluid filters clogged or malfunctioning, but usually will see more frequent problems. 3)possibly need transmission inspected??
I guess I can live with it, I was hoping someone would say,oh yeah, i've heard of this its.....

How long ago did you get your tranny checked? Take out the dipstick for your tranny and smell it, if it smells burnt then you might have some problems, otherwise, it may be your torque converter

I think mine might be doing the same thing. Sometimes when i start to go from a stop the rear end "clicks" . Like it slightly jumps or something. Also if i hit the brake and then hit the gas, it will do it. I'm woundering if this is normal.

fx2offroad: probably the first thing I'd check would be your u-joints, then brakes and suspension for something loose.

My '02 does the same thing, and i posted the issue in an earlier thread. I had the dealer put it on the rack, they checked everything visually, including putting the drivetrain in gear and pulling the cover off of the differential to check gears, all was good. My local tech checked as well and found nothing obvious. It sure is aggravating though.
My axle is a GT4 according to the sticker in the glovebox.
