Alright, I have a 2000 gmc z71 all factory except for turndown flows and aftermarket rims and tires. My truck has 210,000 miles on it and normally runs great. Here lately when I crank it sometimes not all the time it will crank up and then die never pick up fuel. Crank it again and it will still do it unless you put your foot on the gas and then it picks up and half ass runs ok. I took to to the shop and the computer would not show anything for them and of course it would run great for the mechanics. Now the service engine light is on and the code says camshaft position sensor. Could this sensor cause this problem? Also it is getting horrible gas mileage. any help would be great.

That could be the problem. either way if it says camshaft position sensor, replace it. It is a cheap part. Reset the code and see if it runs better. It can definately make it run bad.

ok can be cheap. Kragen has one for 37 and one for 81.

My crankshaft position sensor went out and it killed the engine. Had it replaced...there is a special replacement procedure. It's in the Chilton manual. My mechanic took care of this for me.

What's Up Guys? Where exactly is the camshaft position sensor? Is it easy to replace? My 1998 Silverado is giving the same trouble code. The part is only $40 at AutoZone, so I'm hoping it can be a quick fix.
