Durant was the Grandon of Michigan Governor Crapo! (That's a name!) and he got into the horse drawn carrage business. He was a true visionary and saw the future of marketing automobiles in the US.

Oldsmobile was named after Ransom E Olds. The company was purchased by GM in 1908.

I remember seeing it when I went to buy a 1997 GMC Sierra pickup truck. (Didn't buy it). They said that it onStar has just come out in 1996.
I had to lookup that it was introduced by the IBM ExtremeBlue (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ExtremeBlue) Internship team. :-)

Just a note about the first pickup truck put out by GM. My research showed that Chevrolet actually came out with their first pickup truck in 1918 http://www.chevytrucks.org/resources/history_of_chevy_trucks.htm
but, 1930 was GM's first http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chevrolet_Silverado

GM had a mechanical fuel injection system in 1957 on 283 V8 Chevy

I do not think there was a stock corvette produced by chevy but a 4 door prototype was built by the California Custom Coach Company in the early 70's.

edit: ok i did a LITTLE research and came up with nothing. but i could swear that i saw a modern marvels thing onthe history channel about vettes and they had one, i wish i could remember the year, but i cant find it.
