When did you buy your first GM truck, why, how long did you have it and how many since the first one?
1983 86 Silverado 3/4 p/u used, My grandfather always drove GM trucks! Had it for three years and I just bought #8 a 2003 Trailblazer North Face Edition. Next in line 2007 Suburban LTZ. I buy GM trucks because I feel there is not a better truck made in the US! I feel a great pride in every GM purchase and when I see a GM truck on the road I see the pride of America!

When I first got my license, I drove my Dad's 1965 GMC pickup. He also had a 1972 GMC Jimmy. My first car was a 1970 Chevelle. I then had a 1980 Chevy Luv pickup. I traded it for a 1971 GMC 3/4 ton pickup. I still have a 1987 K5 Blazer. My wife Drives a 2001 Suburban, and I drive a 2006 Silverado 2500HD. My Dad currently owns a 1972 Chevelle, a 1966 Chevy Pickup 4X4, a 1998 Chevy Crew cab 1-ton pickup, and a 2005 Silverado 2500HD.
You might say Chevrolet runs through my veins.

My first GM truck was a 1962 GMC 3/4 that I bought in 1993 when I was 20 years old. The previous owner had fixed the body and interior. However, it needed some engine work, wich was a 283.
I found a 1973 350 4-bolt Police Special from a wrecking yard. Swapped out the components with a HEI unit and did some minor work on it. Put that bad boy in and had a pretty hot truck for a couple of years.
I had to sell her before I move down here. Brought a tear to my eye. I'll see if I can find some pictures and post them up here.

Like dwill3015, the first GM truck I drove was my dad's '75 K5 Blazer. Had a variety of cars/trucks over the years until I bought my Suburban last year. No real "GM pride" or anything. With 4 kids, it basically boiled down to what can you get that will carry both people and junk? I told someone I wanted a new truck and they reflexively said to get a Toyota. But what does Toyota have in their fleet that competes with a Suburban? They did make the Land Cruiser for years, but it's not really any bigger than my Explorer. Ford made the Expedition for a few years, but, being newer models, they were all out of my price range. Suburban is reportedly the oldest "badge" in the automotive industry, dating back to the '30's. GM has been making Suburbans for so long you can find one in just about any price range you want.
In short, for what I wanted, I couldn't really find any other options. And I haven't been real dissappointed.

My current truck is my 1st ever new GM vehicle period. Had one used Chevy in my youth. Bought it last March. Reason I swapped to the Chevy is they far and away get the best MPG for a full size truck. I am and always will be a Mopar/Dodge truck guy at heart but because Chevy trucks get such superior fuel economy I will be a Chevy guy until either A) - Dodge gets their act together and starts producing a fuel efficient truck or B) - the gas crisis ends by some means and gas is once again affordable. I like the Chevy don't misunderstand just a Mopar guy at heart.

1st truck was a "new" 71 Chevy SWB w/307 & 3-speed, from AJ Foyt in Houston, Tx. Since, including Vans, Blazers, Bronco IIs & one F250 diesel, I've had 19 more. 4 Fords, 1 Toyota and the rest Chevrolets. Had a few cars thrown in, too. I just need a hobby that doesn't cost so much!

My first Chevy truck was a 1982 dually crew cab with a 454 and a 400 tranny.I got it for $200 from a guy in upstate New Hampshire when I was 16. It had 320k on it and had rotted rockers and doors. Replaced them and the truck run until a year ago when it threw a rod.:frown: Still have the truck just no engine it had just turned 636,728 we used it to pick up cars for restoration.

I was fortunate to grow up in a GM family. My Grandfather drove a '62 Chevy 1/2 ton 283 with over 1,000,000 miles on it. My Dad had a '64 327/350TH that that was the first one of his trucks that I remember. My first was a '72 C10 Custom Deluxe with 350 HP /350TH fleetside longbed, Light Yellow paint with A/C and an Alpine am/fm 8 track and Keystone Raider deep dish wheels. I've owned several since and I'm finally building my dream truck a '67 C20 coil-spring all the way around, purple heart wood bed, saddle leather interior,m one piece windows, White paint with Blue pearl in the clear coat and every GM accessory I can find, as well as a few I've always wanted like chrome fender -wells, powder-coated frame, chrome grill and clear clearance lights with all LED bulbs. YEP, I love my GM TRUCKS !!!

I learned to drive a stick shift on Dad's '48 Chevy pickup that my brother had converted from 3-on-the-tree to 4-on-the-floor. He also had a '48 Chevy panel truck that was lots of fun to drive as well. In high school I had a 1966 Caprice 396 (Gosh! I wish I had THAT one back). The first truck I bought was a 1971 C10 fleetside 2WD. Fantastic truck til some drunk in a Porche took it out. The next truck I bouth was an 1987 S10 2WD. Great driving but I missed the feel of the full-size truck. Then, last year my father-in-law gave me his 1983 Silverado LWB 2WD. Over 340k miles and on it's 3rd transmission, but still trucking on the original 5.0 V8. (Probably about time for a rebuild). My son drives it to work every day and I plan to pass it on to him. My wife is on her second full-size Chevy conversion van. I'm currently driving a 2000 Impala LS. Can you tell I'm a big-time Chevy man?

I don't think their was much cloice for me but to become a GM guy. My family has been driving gm cars and trucks for a long time. There has been other stuff mixed in but we always came back.
My personal frist was a '91 2500 454 2wd gmc. Ran on gas and propane. Great work truck. Sold it about 3 yrs later to buddy with about 320,000 kms on it. Now its got over 400,000 and a little ruff to look at but still runs like a top. Next I bought both an '04 1/2 ton silverado 2wd 5.3. and a '04 Colorado c/c z71. I've still got the 1/2 ton. Its the one in my pics and avatar. But I had to get rid of the Colorado. A real P.O.S.! Sorry guys but it was a lemon! It was my wife's truck and she still misses it. Great truck, but NEVER BUY A FIRST MODEL YEAR!!!! Now I drive a '93 3500 4x4 6.5 desiel with 305,000 and I adding 1000 kms per week. I also bought a '97 2500 4x4 454 a couple of months ago. I am driving it accross Canada (about 6500 kms) in a couple of weeks. Parking it in Newfoundland at my father-in-laws. Its only got 121,000 kms on it and will ony get about 2500 kms per YEAR! Should last me a while. Plan on making it a monster as time goes on.
Between my buddies and me we own about 15 gm trucks. Most of which are '90 - '98's. Best trucks ever!!!

I bought a '67 C-10 in 1995 from the original owner, who was my next door neighbor. It had a 327 & THM400, 4.11:1 rear. I put a 700R4 in it. I sold it to a guy who finished it and it was featured in Classic Trucks magazine. Before I sold it though, I bought a '89 R-30 Crew Cab with a F.I 454. That was in August, 2000. It also had 4.11:1 gears and got about 8 mpg. I sold it this past February right after I bought my latest GM truck, a 2008 Silverado 1500 4x4.

I considered getting a Chevrolet tattoo. I drive a Silverado now, and I love it. Always will too, it's unfortunate I'm not the original owner (first vehicle here) but I will definitely be the last!

I first drove a 1966 Burb (restoring the next truck, the 84), then an 84 Silverado, then an 85 Burb (engine rebuild on the 84), Then the 84 again through the senior year of high school until sophomore year of college. My parents then leased me a 2000 S-10 for the final two years of college as a gift for getting college paid for (scholarship). Turned in lease in 2003, and bought a 2000 Camaro (always thought it would be cool to drive one), and subsequently I nearly died in 2 inches of snow, going 15 mph, so I sold the Camaro in the spring on 2004, and bought an 02 Z71 short bed regular cab. Finally kept that truck until the spring of 2006, when my first daugther was born, and traded the 02 in for an 04 extended cab (got to fit the family, needed the family roadster), which is my current vehicle...
Okay, that was a mouthful, but my history is deep with GMC, in the short 12 years that I have been driving.
Also, I have a 1955 GMC pickup that my father and I restored and he gave to me as a college graduation gift.

This is my first GM truck, and I bought it in March of this year. Coincidentally, I bought it the day before my 25th birthday, so I consider it my birthday present to myself. I've wanted a Chevy truck since I was old enough to start thinking about it. Unfortunately, I couldn't be too picky when I hit 16, so I got a '97 Ford Ranger. It was a decent truck and it worked for me, but I love my Chevy!

Bought my first GM, a 1997 TurboDiesel Suburban about 4 years ago. No real family brand pressure, just didn't have a high opinion of Fords, and Dodge didn't make anything I wanted. After a few seasons of racing rally cars, we decided we needed something that could hold more gear, so the burb is now for sale and we just got a new rig.
I recently went out an started looking for another truck, and only considered the GMs, as I really wanted that Allison trans for mountain towing. Bought a 2002 GMC Sierra crew cab short bed and couldn't be happier...other than the 13mpg.

MY first vehicle was a 1972 Chevy C-10 Custom Deluxe with a 350 and 3 spd auto. MY grandfather gave it to me when I got my licence. He got it 1986 (the year I was born), and drove it a lot. Then as it started to get more expensive to drive, it was just used as a wood truck. When I got it, it had between 300,000 - 500,000 on the engine and tranny. I drove it when I was in high school I ended up replacing a few parts to keep it running and then I gave it to my brother last year. He unfortunately decided to take and roll it on me. So I sold it as I didn't have the time or money to replace it.
About a year after high school I took and got my second Chevy, a 2005 Cavalier base model. I took and drove that for about 2 years. In that time I also had a 1976 Dodge Royal Monaco, but took it to the wrecker as it was rusted out, but a very strong motor. Sat for over 2 years, stuck a battery in it, and it started right up. I also had a 1988 Chevy Caprice Classic Brougham which the head gasket went or the block cracked so I sold it. I also had a 1988 Cadillac Brougham which I also eventually sold.
Then I sold the Cavalier for a 2002 GMC 2500HD Duramax. I sold that to my brother as it was cost me around $300+ a month on fuel. I then moved and got a 1994 Lumina APV drove it for a couple of months and bought a 2003 Chev Cavalier. Now I also have a 1994 Chevy Suburban as a work truck for now. I am only 22 and I am already on vehicle 9! I am a GM family man for life. I absolutely hate Ford, don't care for most import's and the only thing I would ever buy from Dodge would be a Challenger or maybe an older Cummins diesel truck.

Mine was a 76 El Camino that I bought from my mom. She was going to junk it for $50 and I said I wanted it. She charged me $300 so I would appreciate it more. I drove it for a while and then restored it while in trade school. 2 years later a drunk took it and rolled it. I still miss it.

My dad always drove Chevy trucks. The oldest one I remember was a 1948 1/2 ton.
Then many more over the years after that.
For me: The trucks I have had (All GM of course)
1970 Chevy 1/2 ton 2wd
1968 GMC 1/2 ton short box step side 2wd
1976 GMC Jimmy 4wd
1979 Chevy 3/4 ton Suburban 2wd
1998 Pontiac Trans Sport Montana (yes on the title its listed as a truck)
1997 Chevy Tahoe 2dr 4wd
Thats the list so far. There have been many GM cars over the years, to may to list here.
I always favored Pontiac cars and have owned several over the years. Had good luck with them.
I even have owned a couple Fords in the mix.
Had one Chrysler, a 79 Cordoba. Sorry Dodge guys but it was total JUNK!
Thats the list so far. I plan to keep the 97 Tahoe 2dr for a long time now that I finally have one.
See ya somewhere on down the road, John

The first Chevy I drove was a 1946 flat 6 that had a homebuilt flat bed on it. My first car was a '79 Chevy short WB 250 6 cyl. Then came a '8? 3/4 ton 4X4 with a 292 six. I became a family man and my trucks turned into full size Chevy and GMC vans. I down sized to a 2000 S-10 until I totalled it last year and now have my current '04 Silverado.

My first truck was a 1969 Chevy SWB pickup. I got it my jr. yr. of high school. I owned for 4 yrs. until my now ex-wife talked me into selling it. I loved that truck. It had a 400 sb with a th350 tranny. B&M floor shifter. I had a set of bucket seats and center consle out of a 1976 K5 blazer. It had no power steering or brakes. It still had the six lug wheels and drum brakes. But was still fast and fun to drive. I got in a lot of trouble in that truck in hight school. I have had a few trucks since then. 1979 chevy bonaza pickup,1986 gmc parts truck, 2001 s-10 xtreme pickup, 1994 bravada, 1988 s-15 pickup, 1993 s-10 blazer, and now a 2000 silverado. 3 days before i got my license, my dad bought me a new-to-me 1994 c/k 1500 with a salvaged title and 91,000 miles on it. I rolled it at 130,000 miles and had to put it back together. A chopped top and monte carlo rear end later, it was back on the road. 212,000 miles i traded it in on a 2006 silverado. Still see it around town and am thinking about making an offer on it.
Chevy till the end.
My first Chevy was my dads 71 2wd that I started driving to the wood pile as soon as I could reach the pedels. Sadly it was sold before I could legally drive it, so when I turned 16 I was left to fend for my self ....I bought a 84 dodge. After learning the hard way, I upgraded to a 74 chevy 2wd. Blew up the engine, replaced it, and blew up #2 a year later. Dad finally took pity on me and gave me his "worthless as a trade in" 87 toyota 4wd. Drove that "worthless" truck HARD until it gave out at 260,xxx mi.
Got a 93 fullsized 4wd Blazer and drove it until the tranny started to puke. Traded it in on my current 94 sb 4wd that will be my 4 year old son's first truck...poor kid.

#1: Got a 2003 Chevrolet Silverado Z71 when I was 16. I owned it for 3 months and traded it in for a...
#2: 2004 Grand Prix GTP. I was still 16. I owned it for about a year and a half. Traded it for...
#3: My Baby. 2002 Chevrolet Silverado. This was my Drag/Show truck. I got this when I was 18. I owned it EXACTLY one year to the day. It was totaled in a wreck, the other drivers insurance paid for...
#4: 2003 Chevrolet Silverado Z71. It is my current vehicle.
And I can almost guarantee my next vehicle will be a GM Truck and even the next vehicle after that. Sure GM has its flaws, but what auto maker doesn't? What can I say, I grew up in a GM family.

At age 16 I came to the U.S. from England, the biggest engine I'd ever seen back then was a 3.5liter V8 in a Rover sedan so it didn't take long to to be drawn to big American V8 power, hence the '73 Dodge Charger I bought my junior year of high school (400 c.i.) after that bought a brand new Dodge full size 4WD in '85, got 250,000 miles out of it then went to a '83 F250 wasn't long after that, about '96, got my first G.M. a '94 GMC Sierra SLE 4X4, best truck to that point in fact that truck saved my life! Got T-boned in the drivers door by a jeep cherokee doing 65 MPH ( my own fault) but I was very lucky. After that got a'97 suburban (big family) sold it to a friend about two and a half years ago with 220,000 miles and he's still driving it regularly. Used that money as a down payment on my '05 Z71, so as you can see I've owned all of the big three but I'm sticking with G.M. (hope they don.t go under!!):great:

My parents bought a 1981 K5 Blazer brand new. They used it to supplement income by plowing snow. It never got stuck and always started. I was lucky enought to be able to give it new life by replacing that old tired 305 w/ a shinny new 350 in my auto shop class.
I drove it for a while with the swiss cheese body and everything. Until it was finally sold while I was in college.
Since then I have owned ALOT of different vehicles.

I bought my 2001 S-10 ext. cab 4.3 when I was 18 brand new, and I still have it today with 55,000 miles.
My next truck I bought was a New 2004 Silverado 2500HD with 6.0, 4L60E transmission. (Traded a year later and 16,000 miles, it was in perfect condition!)
My current truck I bought is a New 2005 Silverado 1500 Regency Badlander Edition, and it currently has 8,900 miles on it.
Here is the really funny part, all of my truck were bought on the same day!

My first GM Truck is the 02 Avalanche 2500 I sit in now. I owned a Chevy Cavalier type 10 SS and My fiance bought a 96 Monte Carlo Z34 which I inherited from her when we had kids. I fell in love with Chevy when my brother bought a 78 Chevy Nova. I had a 4 speed Muncie and manual steering. A tank on wheels it was but the 350, 4 barrel could make it move. He had to sell it for money for college and my parents wouldn't let me buy it from him. I have always just bought cars that were good for commuting and now I had the chance and need for a truck. My first choice was a Chevy. All my friends tried to talk me into a ford, but I have been down that road before and will never go there again.

The first Chevy I had was a 1973 Custom Deluxe. It was lime green and belonged to my dad until I got it. Since then, I've had several different cars, mostly Chevys, including a 66 Impala, 82 Monte Carlo and an 85 Monte Carlo SS. My current vehicle is a 95 Silverado K1500 Extended Cab. I plan to drive the wheels off this one and then get another Silverado. Maybe a Crew Cab. I have no use for a car anymore as I have a family to haul around, so Silverado is the one for me!

my first vehicle was not a truck although i wanted it to be. i come from a chevy family. my father being a mechanic and he always had chevys. i was given a 90 pontiac transport van when i was 16. it was free so i drove it but imagine how much i enjoyed that:grrrrrr:. i do have to say it took a rat bag beating for 3 years and it had 220000+ km on it when i got it. it sprung an oil leak and that was my excuse to get my first truck. it was an 89 305 fleet side reg cab long box 4x4 that i paid 400 bucks for. that truck went to hell and back and still worked. still kinda miss it actually. love the new one but in some ways miss the old one.
also i like the look of chevys way more then the other manufacturers.
style power economy reliability
i think youd be crazy not to get a chev

My current truck is my first GM truck. Owned Fords before this one. Bought it brand new in 2003 because Ford wouldn't deal with me on an F-150 and I have never been sorry. I really do love this truck. It looks good, runs great and has been super reliable. Just put a set of side nerfs on it last week (much to the wife's pleasure). Other than that, the truck is pretty stock...but I do plan some other mods...more on that later...

I do not know where to begin. I started with a 73 nove SS and bought a 77 c10 for work in 1985. I currently have a 79 gmc stepside 4x4 and a 07 ext cab Z71 they represent #s 7 and 9. I recently sold a 66 stepside 2wd that was # 8. I can't list all the chevy cars, I was quite the wrench head. My father has kept pace pretty well with me. Just trucks he has his 4th that I remember it is a 02 2500, and my younger brother is 12 years younger than me and currently is on his 4th its a 06 avalanche. I have 2 sisiers and 1 brother and between all of us there is not a single vehicle that is not GM.
My first Chevy was a '77 C10 I bought for $4000 new (friend's dad was in Fleet sales) when I was 19. Within 2 yrs, I'd turned the motor into an L82 and swapped the truck 4-speed for a Muncie M22 -- I've been "fixing" stock Chevys ever since. Had an '80 4x4 short bed, an '83 K5 and a '90 Tahoe. I found my used current 'burban by accident, bought it and plan on keeping it 'til it's a pile of brown iron oxide!

My grandfather, father and uncle all worked for GM in Detroit. So I have been in GM's my whole life. Mostly chevy's. 95 Chevy s-10 ext cab. 97 s-10 ext cab. 99 s-10 ext sportside. 03 s-10 4-dr zr2. 04 s-10 2 dr blazer one of my favorites, it was a stick shift with a few mods. I got 24 mpg hwy and could smoke the tires in first 3 gears. 05 Avalanche. Wife drives a 07 Trailblazer and I currently drive the 2000 silverado z-71 4x4 ext cab I purchased last year. I bought it used so I had some cash for mods. Some are done but more to follow.

I learned to drive with my dads 82 Blazer and his old 74 ford truck he still has both (221,000 and 500,000)My first car was a 82 Buick Regal and then a 78 Chevy p/u.I bought my uncles 80 used suburban for 300.00 and was hooked! I sold the first 2 and bought a 78 Burban went to school for awhile and bought my first new car a 91 Pontiac firebird with the halogen headlights, remember that?!. I decided I am a truck lady after 2 years, sold it bought a 92 F150. Sold the old suburbans and in 95 bought a new Suburban had it ever since. I use the Ford on my property and use the Suburban for my daily driving. It is solid no problems to date! We have hauled canoes, boats, campers, our skidsteer, lots of kids, and our friends Passat! We have been to California and back 4 times and Az twice,. to Fl and Tn 4 times, and Virginia Beach countless times. I love my 1995 Chevrolet 4WD 1500 Suburban and All the 360,000 wonderful spent miles.

My first GM was and still is a 2003 Silverado. Nice truck, great gas mileage, rides nice. Only thing I don't like is it does not have cruise control. I liked it so much I bought 300> shares of stock.
When GM first started talking bankruptcy I figured OK if that is what it takes to break the unions fine, no problem. But when they took the bail out money in order to SAVE THE COMPANY, then paid millions in bonuses to the execs and then declared bankruptcy, that was the last straw.
I will never buy anything again touched by a UAW worker. They backed and contributed to the crooked slimey politicians who got the country in the mess we are in and now they are gloating in how they can influence elections.
Well lets see how their influence goes now ! ! The union leaders are wealthy beyond all dreams. I remember one of the strong arm (correctly termed Kapo--look the term up on google) types at a campaign rally for Obama and guy had on a $27,300.00 Rolex watch. Hope the union muscle boys (Kapos) enjoy what they have done but then again they don't have to worry about money any longer as the politicians took care of them while the rank and file followed orders. They got their dream, now they are going to have to live it. I am willing to bet the big Kapo enforcer still has his job and his watch but the watch is about to quit. The irony is the Rolex watch is not union made.
Basically what we are seeing is same thing that happened in Germany in the 30s. The people were afraid of communists so they voted for Hitler who told the people what they wanted to hear and that he would protect them. The UAW is just like the Nazi party, they tell their people they are there to help and protect them from the big bad auto company and they did for a while and did some good things but as so often happens then they got power hungry. The term "power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely" comes to mind.
When the Third Reich collapsed the big wigs in the party had taken the money and placed it in Swiss banks. The big difference here is the big wigs are protected by the politicians they got elected and the union leaders are protected by the Kapos but rank and file workers get screwed with all the plant closings.
Lets see how the tens of thousands vote in 2010 to see if they still support the slimy politicans that told them they would be protected if they got back in office. My bet is (and this is very sad) they will still vote democrat hoping the politicans will bring their big cushy jobs back. Don't think that will happen. Forrest Gump's mother had the perfect saying, "Stupid is as stupid does." In Germany after the war the people were sick of the party people and reportedly did not elect them. Yes it will be interesting to see what happens in 2010, will they continue to support the party or will they realize they made a big mistake.
The funny part is they are now going to have to pay for the bailout along with the rest of us "non union scum" they think are stupid because we don't like unions. In a way we are/were stupid as we still bought their cars clinging to brand loyalty. I am kicking myself so to speak as I was not thinking clearly and helped support the "system". I am not going to be like the stupid ones during early 1942 when they burned all the Jap made things they bought before the war to show their hatred after Pearl Harbor. I will keep this truck for well over 200k as I take good care of my equipment.
Then there are the tens of thousands of retired union workers. I know that mentallity well which is "I got mine" and "they owe me".
I'll bet there are those that say my grand daddy was union, my daddy was union, I'm union and my kids will be...................democrats because their grand daddy was democrat, their daddy was democrat and I am democrat because the democrats care for the little guy just like the Uncle Adolph (Hitler) was. The democrats are like all politicians they are in it for the power and the end justifies the means. Who is out of work now? It is the little guy that continually voted for the democrats because the union told them to. Will they wake up in time, I rather doubt it.
Let me define the difference between ignorant and stupid. Ignorance is temporary and stupid is forever so next time someone tells you their grand daddy was, their daddy was................ you will know you are dealing with a offspring of a disfunctional family tree that generations of breeding has not cured.
I am now wondering what will happen to the shop stewards, local presidents and the Kapos in the plants that closed. Are they going to be brought in to the plants that will remain open? I expect many of them will transfer to plants that will remain open as a reward for regeime loyalty.
Maybe some of the UAW workers will be so kind as to tell us who is going to look out for the little rank and file workers whose plants are closing, and who will most likely lose their homes, and there is no industry coming to their area because of the unions, high taxes, stupid laws etc. The folks that are losing their jobs need to have strike lines in front of politicians offices that they supported.
A friend in Ohio was a steel worker an he told me how they forced concessions from management for this and that and they would shut down the plant and I think he said they got 90 bucks a week from the union while on strike but they would make up for it when they went back to work. Now the steel mill he worked at and others has been shut down for years. He and his buddies really showed them who was boss.
I know another guy in that little town and he told me the mind set for years when he grew up was that if you graduated from high school and could walk and chew gum you had a job waiting for you in the steel mills and nobody worried about anything because it was a union job and would be taken care of for life.
I think that if I had been a Kapo in a plant that has now closed I would be very worried about running into folks I enforced the union regeime orders on.

It was fully loaded except for leather and cd player. I then drove a !992 Caprice, and then I finally got my 95 Cheyenne. I just got a 2000 GMC added to my stable too!

i've had so many vehicles! my 1st was a 1979 chevy scottsdale. it was a stepside with a 250 straight 6 with 3 on the tree. i loved that truck but i couldn't afford to fix it up after dad got through with it! i have always liked gm's but never could afford them. now i have a 2000 2500hd, an 04 avalanche and a 1995 saturn sc1. nothing beats the ride of a gm. believe me i've driven all over the country in various other manufactorers and the gm's offer the very best in ride quality. plus there are tons of aftermarket stuff out there for a chevy. i just traded in my tundra, which i did really like but the only downside to toyota, they ain't cheap to work on or fix up! i'm sticking to what i started out with, a gm.

My father bought GM's from when I was little until he passed away in 1988. Near the end he bought a Dodge pickup because "he really didn't care, it was just for mileage." He still bought Olds for the family car to drive around regularly. I married a GM man and we now have 6 counting the one we just received 'back' when my father-in-law passed away. We'd given it to him in 1993 to hold on to for our son, but he didn't take care of it at all.
Now that it is Government Motors, I doubt we purchase another vehicle from them.

My first was a 1984 Scottsdale 3/4 ton 5.7L 350 which my dad purchased new in 1983 and gave to me as a graduation present in 1990 after he bought a 1990 Silverado 3500 7.4L 454 in 1989. The 1984 was repainted in 1991 and again in 2003 and is still my baby although currently having some brake and carburetor issues. I bought the 1990 from my dad after he got a 2000 Silverado 3500 7.4L 454. Four years ago I bought a 20' gooseneck cattle trailer and after having some overheating issues with 1990 when hauling 5 ton of calves to market in the fall of 2007 decided to purchase my 2008 Silverado 3500HD 6.6L Duramax. Wasn't overly excited about owning my first automatic however have been truly impressed with the Allison transmission and glad I went with the diesel. For anyone who is going to do some serious towing the Duramax is well worth the additional 7K tacked on to the sticker price. To top it off I also have a 1965 GMC 4000 dump truck for farm use.

My first truck was also my first vehicle. It was a 97 S-10 2wd reg cab. Bought new for my 16th birthday. Then I had a 98 S-10 2wd ZQ8 package, a 98 S-10 Blazer 2wd 4dr, a 05 Slivy ex cab 2wd, and now have my 08 Silvy crew 2wd. I've always just liked Chevrolet the best for some reason, no one in my family is really "brand loyal", Chevy is just what I choose to buy most of the time.
I've also owned a 01 Dodge Dakota, a 02 Jeep Liberty, and currently still own and drive a 87 F-150.

I remember back about 10 years ago when I was about 8, my dad had a 1990 (I think) Chevy half ton ext. cab shortbed 4x4. I remember the first time he pulled over about a half mile from our house and I asked if I wanted to sit in his lap and drive the rest of the way home. That was one of the best half-miles of my life. I felt like the king of the world driving haha.
Then, in about 2002, he bought a 1986 Chevy 1-ton crew cab long bed dually w/ the 454 and sm-465 that was in showroom condition with only 86,000 miles. That was the truck I learned to drive a stick-shift in. I felt like the baddest thing on the road because that truck was just MASSIVE. After only about 3 months of usign that tranny and getting a best of about 13 on the higway, my dad and I installed a Gear Vendors overdrive unit on it that gave it 8 forward speeds and 2 reverse speeds, plus about 2 mpg morein the city and about 3 mpg more on the highway!
Then, in 2007, he bought the 1990 Suburban which he then gave to me the summer of '08 and bought a 1996 Suburban for himself/family roadtrip vehicle. I put a ton of work into my 90 to get it as it sits now.

The very first brand new vehicle I ever bought was a stripped 1984 Chevy S10. It didn't have a rear bumper or a radio. But it was the only way I could get something new. I've owned over 20 vehicles since then, but only the last 3 have been GM trucks. I love my "new" '07 Silverado. The best truck I've ever owned!!

My first GM truck was a Chevy LUV, 4 cyl diesel, 4 wheel drive. It was an awesome little truck and took me anywhere I wanted to go. Unfortunately, I had it in Wyoming where temperatures often went well below zero and diesels don't start real well in the cold. I took it hunting in places you wouldn't believe and pulled out plenty of much bigger F250s and Silverados. They could not understand how I did it with this little noisy 4 banger! I wish I had that truck back! My first ever GM vehicle was a 1954 Chevy belair coupe I owned in like 1958. Not the greatest vehicle in the world, but it sure beat walking!

Turned 18 in 1975 and bought a 1973 Cheyenne 10. She was was a classy lady and sweetly called my name at the auction house. Ran on Regular gas at 50 cents a gallon. I owned her for 3 years. 120,000 mi were on the odometer and she still smelled new.
In 1990 bought a new Sierra 2500 Ext Cab LB. 4x4. She was an Amazon. She'd pull or haul anything I'd throw at her. I drove her until 2004. She had 250,000 on the odometer and looked as good as the day she came off the showroom. Let the youngest boy drive her his senior year. In three months the differential was out, engine was wheezing, and a long crease from stem to stern on her passenger side were the tell tale signs of something given not earned or paid for with his own money, sweat and tears.
I just bought a beautiful 1999 Silverado 1500 Ext Cab LT, which will probably last me till I pass on. She's pretty well loaded and with only 112,000 mi she looks and sounds like she wants another 200,000 put on her. If I can't get them on all by myself I have 3 grandsons’ that will probably want to help when they get older.

My first GM car was a 1940 Chev. coach, bought in 1951. I have had many GM vehicles since then, probably about 25. I now have a 2007 Chevy 2500HD 4x4. When i got my 1940 Chevy, I drove it home from the dealer, and I had never driven a car before! In those days they weren't as fussy about those things...the good ol' days?

When did you buy your first GM truck, why,
3 months ago and buoght it because there were no Aussie v8 utes for sale
I went to all of the main delears Toyota,Isuzu,Mazada, and the 2x4 chevy was the better looking truck and 5000 USD cheaper than the others. Plus chevy gave me 3000 USD in extras. The truck market has been hit hard like every where else and they will do just about anything to sell you a car.
So I got the new truck for 16,000 USD

I bought my first chevy truck when I was 20. I bought a 2000 silverado 1500 z71 in 2002. Had to sell it a couple years later as I was married and still in school so I couldn't afford the 700 plus miles a week I was driving. Finally in 2006 I was able to buy my current truck (info in sig). Growing up my dad had a lifted 1979 GMC k25 and we had that until I was about 15. I would have loved driving that around in high school. Sure beat the 1970 E300 van I drove. I still want to pick up another truck similar to the one my dad had, but I get dirty looks from the wife whenever i bring it up. Probbably cuz I still have too many plans for my truck and my Land Rover.
