For a time back around August of last year we had a chat room setup. Some of you probably remember it, some maybe not.
It went away with the old software. It wasn't the most robust, and had some glitches, like double postings. But it was pretty nice just the same.
I'm just curious, if any of the members would be interested in having a live chat room on this site?
I'm not looking to make more work for you Steve, but I probably will be anyway.

At work the joke is "How many #1 things do you have on your list today!"...
I plan on having a lot more time to devote to this site in the near future. After my family time, this will be my #1 obligation ... getting this site as big and powerful as I can get it.
Everyone who is here now and has some skill, be on notice ... I may come ask you to help moderate in the near future.

It's great having some feedback from you all, but what we could really use are some votes. Other polls generate a lot of response, so I know you all see the polls. This poll will hopefully help me convince the site admin that placing a chat option on this site is a wise idea.
Obviously there's no sense in doing it if only 8 people out of our 3000+ members are interested.
I suspect that many of our members "don't care" either way, and that's ok, there's a voting option for that:happy:
So please just pop a vote in there, and let us know where you stand.
Thanks:smile:

It would be nice to have a section in here to relax and let "acky brakey" mullet down and talk smack. Please don't be afraid to post negative too.
"letting a mullet down" ?

I was wondering who voted no, then I realized that my poll question may not have been worded correctly.
I was thinking that I had asked if people thought that the chat room would be a good idea.
Note to self, pay more attention to poll questions.:rules:

That is pretty laughable....lol
For now you'll just need to click the link on that page, until I figure out why it works for firefox, and not IE.
So use the url posted in the attachment.

I've tried this in the past and the chat module stayed empty like 95% of the time, it never seemed to live up to it's billing. Other sites have them and they don't seem to have any activity either. Can someone show me some good examples of sites that have great and active Chat rooms?

www.tastyfragism.com (http://www.tastyfragism.com) thats is a gaming clan i am a member of. i know that they always are online chatting. its mostly live voice chat. but there is an option for text chatting. i hosted a server for them for a while until i didnt have the time to play any more. right now, my funds are too low to host one for us, or else i would offer to. i loved live voice chat, it seemed so much easier to manage. all you need is a server and to dish out 15, maybe 20 bucks for a headset at walmart that has a mic. on it.
edit: i think the server i used was a 32 person server from clanwarz i think. i have a paypal reciept for it somewhere, but i will have to find it. the cost wasnt that bad. i think that if we as members were to use it, the ones that do should chip in a dollar a month, or a one time fee per year of $12. that should be more than enough for us to run a chat room live or text.
as stated above, i cant afford to run one on my own, but i can chip in a lil bit. if i am going to use it, i am more than willing to pay.

LOL
http://www.silverlakeforum.com/
For the Silver Lake Sand Dunes up in Michigan. The chat is bumpin' at night. 20+ people visit it at night. It's awesome to be able to instantly talk to people instead of through PM's. Plus, the site isn't the same site as it was back in '07. Lately we've had a TON of new members. Times have changed, demands have changed. What do you have to lose? Really....is there a cost to having a chat or something? Why not have it up and just leave it up? Does it have to be active 24/7?? No chat is going to be active ALL the time, people have lives. But it's just cool to chat with people rather than PM'ing. Plus most of the time the chat is just just a social conversation, not just about trucks and wrenching. You form bonds through chatting with people and NETWORK with people. Life is all about networking ! Put it up already!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
And I honestly have to say, this is the only forum that I have been a member of that hasn't had a chat. I've been a member of 3 truck forums, a few off-roading forums, and a ton of quad forums....most has had chat. So...PUT IT UP ALREADY!
