Second generation
The GMT900 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GM_GMT_platform#GMT900) Avalanche was introduced at the Chicago Auto Show (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chicago_Auto_Show) in February 2006. Production of the redesigned Avalanche began at the Silao Assembly (http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Silao_Assembly&action=edit) in March of 2006. The Avalanche maintains the styled front end much like its sister vehicles, the Tahoe/Yukon (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chevrolet_Tahoe) and Suburban, yet it still has the distinct midgate and integrated bed as found on previous incarnations. It has all the same standard and available features as the Suburban and the Tahoe.
A 2007 Avalanche was given away to the Most Valuable Player of the 2006 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2006_in_baseball) Major League Baseball All-Star Game (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Major_League_Baseball_All-Star_Game), Michael Young (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Michael_Young_%28baseball_player%29).
Engines:

5.3 L Vortec 5300 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GM_Vortec_engine#5300) V8 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/V8) with Active Fuel Management (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Active_Fuel_Management), 320 hp (239 kW)
6.0 L VortecMAX (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GM_Vortec_engine#HO_6000) V8 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/V8) with VVT (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Variable_valve_timing) and Active Fuel Management (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Active_Fuel_Management), 366 hp (265 kW) (late 2006)

I still think they should offer a diesel for the Avalanche
