Ok, this is just plain cool. I've been talking with Paul since last year and we finally got around to giving him a little corner of this website. They make a few different options to trick out your ride with a new antenna. Check them out at www.shortyantennasource.com (http://www.shortyantennasource.com)!

Welcome to Shorty Antenna Source, home of the original shorty antenna

Why is our antenna the original shorty? Because we manufacture them to meet the specifications and appearance of your stock antenna, only shorter! Our antennas are made out of high quality stainless steel and our black antennas are powder coated for lifetime quality.

Replace your lengthy 31” stock antenna with one our 8” or 14” shorties. Choose between polished silver and powder coated black. Don’t be fooled by those rubber imitations, they quickly become permanently bent and faded. Our original shorty antenna will give your vehicle a clean, subtle and unique look that matches the style and contour. Our shorty antennas come with everything you need and they install in minutes. And with no loss in reception, there’s nothing to lose!

So do your vehicle a favor and give it the antenna it deserves!

We stand behind our antennas and if you are not completely satisfied, return it for a full refund.

As of now, our antennas do not fit the 07 New Body Style for the GMC Sierra or the Silverado. GM apparently decided to change their design for their antennas on the NBS. (I'm just as upset as you are). If the demand becomes large enough, I'll consider designing a new adapter for these applications. Thanks for the inquiry.

They will fit any 06 and older (or non NBS) Sierras and Silverados!

After:

That's ironic. The shorty mod makes the vehicle different, so it stands out. But in this case, being different makes it harder to notice.

That 50th anniversary car is worth a small fortune. As a 14 yr old kid I saw a new 455/4-speed 50th car on the dealers showroom floor it made a big impression on me.

My current TA came from your area, I bought it from John Hodges a couple of years ago. Sunset orange 77, pretty quick for a streetcar.

Wow, it's not just a myth!

The first "Tim Horton" (the "s" came later) store opened in 1964 in Hamilton (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hamilton%2C_Ontario), Ontario (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ontario). The business was founded by Tim Horton (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tim_Horton), who played in the National Hockey League (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/National_Hockey_League) from 1949 until his death in a car accident in 1974. Soon after Horton opened the store, he met Ron Joyce (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ron_Joyce), a former Hamilton police constable. In 1965, Joyce's entrepreneurial spirit had come to the fore and he took over the fledgling Tim Horton Donut Shop on Ottawa Street North in Hamilton. By 1967, after he had opened up two more stores, he and Tim Horton became full partners in the business. Upon Horton's death, Joyce bought out the Horton family and took over as sole owner of the existing chain of forty stores. Joyce expanded the chain quickly and aggressively in geography and in product selection, opening the 500th store in Aylmer (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aylmer%2C_Quebec), Quebec (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quebec), in 1991. Ron Joyce made some important contributions to his late mother Theresa's community of Williamston, MI.[citation needed] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Citing_sources)
Ron Joyce's aggressive expansion of the Tim Horton's business resulted in two major changes in the coffee and doughnut restaurant market: independent doughnut shops in Canada were virtually eliminated, and Canada's per-capita ratio of doughnut shops surpassed those of all other countries.

Bought by Wendy's spun off in an IPO. Man there is money in them donuts....eh? btw, what does their antenna ball look like?
From:Tim Horton's.com (http://www.timhortons.com/en/about/aboutus_history.html) In 1995, Tim Hortons merged with Wendy’s International, Inc., giving new focus and impetus to the expansion of the Tim Hortons concept in the United States. Tim Hortons locations can presently be found in Michigan, Maine, Connecticut, Ohio, West Virginia, Kentucky, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Massachusetts and New York, with responsible expansion continuing in these core markets. The Canadian operation is 95% franchise owned and operated, and plans in the U.S. call for the same key strategy to be implemented as expansion progresses. Currently, there are more than 2,723 stores across Canada, and over 339 locations in the United States. In March 2006, Tim Hortons completed an initial public offering of the company and was fully spun off as a separate company as of September 29, 2006. Tim Hortons trades on the NYSE and TSX (THI).

I live in the Mojave Desert and we only have two local radio stations on the FM band that play music in English, so in my real world the reception is the same. Now if I put on my engineers hat, then no a shorter antenna doesn't work better than a full wave antenna. Of course the stock antenna is not a full wave antenna either but that is the subject of another post of mine: post 20 (http://www.gmtruckclub.com/forum/showpost.php?p=32349&postcount=20) Suffice to say that I listen to XM radio 90% of the time, but when I'm listening to am/fm the Shorty gets the job done! Besides how can you not love an antenna that lets you see Jack? btw, if by clown music you mean south of the border musica....then I hear plenty of that with or without an antenna!

I ordered two! 8 incher for the burb and 14 inches for the work truck.
Regarding FM antennas. Commercial FM radio is in the 88 - 108 mhz frequency range. The optimum antenna length would be 120 inches. Kinda hard to use that on a car or truck. You can use 1/2 or 1/4 wave antennas as a compromise, so that would be 60 or 30 inches. A 1/8 wave would be 15 inches and a 1/16 wave would be 7.5 inches. As I said any FM antenna that isn't 120 inches is a compromise unless a signal amplifier like this one from JC Whitney (http://www.jcwhitney.com/autoparts/Search?catalogId=10101&storeId=10101&sku=fm+booster&searchbtn.x=0&searchbtn.y=0) is used. I'll be installing these soon, and you can watch for the write up in the marketplace section.:rules:

Hey guys,
Was wanting to make sure that the antenna for the 94 Chevy Suburban will also fit the GMC Suburban. I am finding that there are some parts that are different between the two. Since there is no listing for the GMC Suburban on the Shorty Antenna Source site I thought I would ask. I am wanting to purchase one of the 14" versions.

Thanks,

My shorty came with a good number of fittings that appear to be designed to cover any standard GM antenna issue that comes up.

That being said, I would be very surprised if the GMC antenna was different than the Chevy antenna.

unplugged

It was not a direct screw on replacement for the antenna on my 93 burb, but I suspect that my antenna is an aftermarket telescoping antenna. The Shorty kit did include adapters if I wanted to cut the antenna, but I didn't want to do that. That said if your antenna is not a power or telescoping antenna and it just screws on, the Shorty kit has you covered. I really like it on my 06 Silverado.

What length did you get? We rarely have reception issues, but once in awhile someone will have problems with an 8". The general rule I tell people is that if you are within about 70 miles of the stations that you listen to, you won't see any loss in reception, but if you start to get outside that, the 8" will start to lose it a little. We almost never have any complaints with our 14" though.

We also accept all returns for a full refund if you are not 100% satisfied. We will also exchange it for a different size at no cost.

I put the shorty on my sierra and put my sierra's 31 inch on the burb which is what the shorty was on in the first place, and I still have no reception. The sierra however gets great reception with the shorty so I must've broken something when I snapped the first antenna off of the suburban. Anyways, I am 100% satisfied with the shorty antenna and would recommend it to anyone who wants a sleek looking antenna without sacrificing reception quality.

I put the shorty on my sierra and put my sierra's 31 inch on the burb which is what the shorty was on in the first place, and I still have no reception. The sierra however gets great reception with the shorty so I must've broken something when I snapped the first antenna off of the suburban. Anyways, I am 100% satisfied with the shorty antenna and would recommend it to anyone who wants a sleek looking antenna without sacrificing reception quality.

lol, no reception means no reception I guess. ;-)

I recently bought an 8 inch shorty and the reception is only bad on distant stations, aprox 65 and 50 miles to the stations I'm talking about. My antenna is stainless steel not billet alum. I heard the Billet antenna's have poorer reception.

On the GMTC homepage, just click on the "Marketplace" tab at the top and then look for "Supporting Venders" and you will see "Shortyantennasource".

Awesome people to deal with and an outstanding product!

Sorry to hijack, does anyone know if the 06 and older antennas will work on my 94 burban? They only list 06 and older or 07 and newer??

/\ Found it! :great:

Placed my order, and used the "gmtruckclub" coupon code, showed that the discount was still valid. Hope so, as for them to be a "sponsor" - they should hook the forums "members" up!!!!

Either way, my order is in... First of several mods that I'll be buying, ordering, and installing in the coming days!!

Paul is great to deal with. The first antenna got bent in the shipping process, I emailed Paul and he shipped a new one out with no questions asked. Again great vendor

My antenna base is causing me problems, it seems to have a bad connection and it causes static on the am radio when listening to talk radio. Did you have to replace the antenna base, and how difficult was it to change out?

Yes, I had to replace the antenna base.

It was an awful pain in the neck, IMO. Tight spaces, big arms/hands/bodies don't fit into all that well! Removing the base from the exterior of the truck was no problem. Simply popped off the plastic cover, removed three bolts (7 or 8 mm I think), and done. Then the cord is connected behind the glovebox, up behind the dashboard somewheres. I could not locate it for the life of me. So I just pulled really, really, really long and hard from the exterior (from the disconnected base) - and out it came.

Again, reinstalling the exterior portion was a cinch. GM had the base in stock, $17 give or take I think. Picked it up, installed with same three bolts... Again, the issue was fishing the cord back down behind the glovebox for reconnection with the radio's feed line. I wound up having my friend do it for me, because he is much smaller, skinnier, and has more patience than I.

That being said, I have still NOT been able to get to use my 14" Shorty Antenna in which I bought. Unfortunately for me, the kit that I received did NOT come with the proper combo of male/female parts to adapt the exterior antenna base to the shorty antenna that I purchased.

There was a male to male adapter, which fit into the antenna - but there is not a female port on the truck. The truck is equipped with a male barb. Then there was a sheeth and a female adapter, but this was too large or too small (don't recall now, been a few months).

So unfortunately for me, I had to make a 2nd trip to GM to purchase an OEM antenna (mine broke the base off inside of it upon removing to install the shorty; thus the reason I had to replace the antenna base as well) - and an OEM antenna is no joke. GM is might proud of that piece: $37.... So over $60 later....... I finally have what I started with....

Thanks for the response. When my antenna would blow in the wind I would get static on my radio. I was the lucky one this time. The base for my antenna did not break, so I ordered an 8" shorty antenna and replaced the long OEM antenna and it works great! The 8" antenna screwed right on to the male threads on my antenna base and I was good to go in 5 minutes.

I had to change the speakers out on my 1500HD a couple of weeks ago and I asked the stereo guy about the antenna base. He told me right away that I needed to take it to the dealer to get that fixed. He didn't want to touch it! I hope I never have to change my antenna base out... I have the same big hands and big arms disease... ha ha

Take care.....Bruce
