Wow, that sucks, sorry to see that man.
Here's a picture of the non-existent power steering pulley:
So Christopher are you starting your own Army command? I'm just wondering cause you've started collecting a nice bit of Army equipment.
If you are may I offer my services as an enlisted Private.
I'd recommend for your next project to start researching a supply of reasonably priced tires.
Those tires dont do well on the road they wear very fast.
When I was in Europe we limited our road trips with the deuces because they eat the tires fast, the compound and tread pattern is great off-road though.
Dont know if youve already found this site. The Navy used to buy NIS and hard to get parts from these guys they had a well stocked warehouse and ran a recycling yard out back. http://www.memphisequipment.com/
Yep. Just last night I learned this trailer was made in 1960; it's older than my parents! The only rust I've seen so far is a front corner of the bed. And limited tow vehicles is right, as evidenced by the pictures. I plan to pretty much only tow it with the deuce, or by the Suburban if it has to move without using the deuce for one reason or another. It's also a 24v electrical system, so I have to put magnetic lights on to tow with a non-military vehicle.
You can actually run straight motor oil, or virtually anything else that burns, and in any mixture. About the only thing you can't run is aviation fuel. Gasoline is considered an emergency fuel and needs to be mixed with motor oil to lubricate the pump.
Those trailers are indestructable, but there arent many trucks that can comfortably tow them either.
Christopher look up the August 2011 4-Wheel & Off-Road magazine page 70 has a pretty good Tech artical about the M35A2 Deuce and a 1/2.
I've heard a rumor before about burning used engine oil mixed with Diesel fuel in the engine and they make a comment about it in the article, they dont give specifics on the mix tho.
I sold the Dually about 6 months ago.
Progress slowed to a standstill and with the economy being what it is the sponsors, except for my brother either went under or backed out, which wasnt really a problem except a couple of them had creditors that started trying to place leans against the truck after mistakenly thinking since it was being used to advertise for those companies it was owned by them.
I had to attend a couple sessions in court to straighten things out and after that I was pretty much burnt with the project so I sold it to my brother, let him deal with the BS he's the one that connected me with the other sponsors anyways.
Big trucks are fun to drive, I keep finding myself looking at Top Kicks and thinking about how I could customize one as a daily driver.
I'll trade ya the deuce for that sweet dually you were having built with the gear vendors overdrive and all the goodies. Nah... I am very much enjoying the deuce even though it sits most of the time. I'm always looking for the next bigger truck to drive. I'm gonna have to step up to 18-wheelers with 53 foot trailers next...
Sounds like this truck is becoming a problem, you should probably just sell it to me for what you got into it.
(Did I ever tell ya the Deuce is on my short list of vehicles I'd love to own?, I've never found one in good enough shape with a price I could afford)
If you are going to mix good and bad gas, I would also add a can of sea foam. I think it is eight or nine bucks but it works great and will help cleaning fuel lines and your carb or injectors which ever you have. I use it and really like how well it works. I also use it before I put away my small engines for the winter. Good luck to you and merry christmas!
Those things are beasts, good luck with it. I would get the gas out and mix it with good gas at a low ratio just becuase that's like $100 worth of gas you have sitting there and it will burn, just loses a bit when it sits for that long.
Even if you have to do some work to get it on the trail it's still a good deal, theres a lot of decent heavy duty parts on that truck that'll make it a great trail runner once its been gone over.
It might take time and more money than you want to invest right now but you still got a lot of good parts.
Fuel pumps never fail on an empty tank, I've suspected for years this was a cruel joke being played by someone or something I just dont know who or what to blame.
Sounds like you have a bit of work ahead of you before she gets back on the trail again. I know this is a GM page but Bronco's are durable trucks that make great off-road beaters, I've owned quite a few over the years yea they've broken on the road and the trail but it wasnt more or less than my GM off-roaders.
Tim, perhaps it isn't as much of a hot deal as I originally thought. It's looking like it's going to need a new fuel pump, plus the normal tune-up that comes with buying a new used vehicle. I temporarily fixed the battery cables, but they will need new ones before too long.
Sounds like you got a great deal.
I have a friend who says he got 130,000 miles with his HydroEdges on his VW Jetta.
