We have an issue with our 2008 Suburban that several shops have not be able to resolve. Any help is appreciated...

Randomly (once a week), after the vehicle is started (about 1-3 seconds), a very loud ticking noise is heard for about 5-10 seconds. It sounds like a fan spinning and hitting a screw or something. Loud, embarrassing noise. ;) It sounds like it is coming from under the hood - sorry I can't be more specific.

Since it is very random, no mechanic can reproduce it to troubleshoot. Has anyone else had this issue before or could share some insight?

Thanks in advance!

98' Suburban 2500 454

I dove about 100 miles today stop and start multiple times then i get home listen to the radio for about 3 hours and burban wont start. The starter motor clicks but wont crank.

I just got new bat last week, amp are at normal level(even tried to jump start but not needed)
I checked all the fuses and replays. Batt cables not corroded.

When i was cleaning the starter (thought all the mudd might affect connections) a small rubber thing fell off the bottom of the starter where theres a hole. dont know what that was or iff its relevant just thought i should let yall know.

I think its the starter but I wana c if yall have any ideas before i go spending 130 on a new starter.

I just had six new Alpine speakers put in my truck, and when they get just above medium loudness, they start to crackle. When I turn the bass up on the head unit its even worse. The head unit is a Kenwood Excelon that I bought new last summer, and the four front speakers are 6.5's and two speakers by the barn doors are 3x9's. Do I need a new amp? I read somewhere that the factory ones don't throw enough power into the new speakers and they distort at higher levels. My old stock speakers wouldn't even crackle at the level the new ones are crackling at, they starts to crackle at about 22-23, and the head unit goes up to 35. When I use the fader and only use the front two speakers (driver and passenger door) I can get those two speakers up to about 26-27 without crackling, but when I use the fader to only play the back four speakers (barn door and second row door) it crackles at around 23. I'm guessing that the factory amp can't throw enough juice to all six speakers and that's why they crackle. Can anybody reaffirm that so I know what's going on for sure before I bring it to the installer? Thanks
Jake

The overhead fan switch that controls the rear fan blower has quit working. Nothing blows in the rear on any of the settings - dead. I guess the 3 options are fuse, resistor, or blower motor. Anybody have any idea which one? There's lots of info. on the web about the front resistor which is located under the dash, but nothing on replacing the rear resistor. I assume it's located in the back with the motor? Thanks for any thoughts!

I guess I should add that I'm talking about the switch on the front overhead console, not the back switch above the 2nd row seat.

Help
My only real pick with my 1998 Suburban-mine since 2007
is the brakes-they aren't great OK not horrible-but not good.
Any chance those expensive EBC Greenstuff $100 or EBC Yellowstuff $150 pads would do what they claim
improve braking-cold braking 10-15%

Powerstuff or Powerstop-has a kit-rotors+ pads-much cheaper $220 pads and rotors-and they claim 20% better stopping-which I would gladly pay if it is true.

EBC has rotors+ yellowstuff pads- $550-claim they improve braking-but I suspect they really mean high temp braking-brake fade-and I don't tow or ride the brake pedal so I never get brake fade

Anyone have a $500 solution for better brakes on 96-99 1/2 tons??
Brembo calipers HUGE rotors-$1500-not on the table-but I love this truck-if it worked-I might be game.It would allow me to keep this 1998 which works great gets good mpg-instead of eventually buying a 2004-and getting a pig in a poke-mainly for better brakes

Thanks
Charlie

So....the wipers only work on high, and don't "park" when they are switched off. Cruise control doesn't turn on when the button on the stalk is pushed. Washer and intermittent wipers don't work either. Turn signals and hazards do work. High beams flash with no problem but only come on when it's at "night" and the dash lights are on. I got lucky and found a new turn signal switch assembly for $37 and replaced it. But, same problems. I've checked fuses on the side of the dash and under the hood and found none blown. Any suggestions? UPDATE: I'm beginning to think this switch is bad. When I make left hand turns the high beams come on and I can "jiggle" the stalk to make the highs come on when they shouldn't. Still, seems to me the chance that the other problems are the same with the original switch suggests there's a problem outside of the switch.
