Update - taking the bent control arm off the truck went well at first - bolts came out, torsion bar unloaded, & ball joint separated without drama.
I am not sure about that T-case model. But, my 1995 had a simulaiar issue. It would grind in 2wd under load, not in 4wd. Turns out that a c-clip popped
