The first thing for sure is to switch out that 10 bolt for the 14 like I have, its a pretty easy swap. The main problem with switching the motor is the computer. Sure you think like I did "just cut all the wires and call her good". Well the 4l60e tranny is dependent on the engine sensors and computer to function. in 1996 they changed the length of the tranny so you cant swap it out for a 700r4. I had to buy a stand alone transmission controller for 700$. If it wer me I would go with the old school 350 if smog is not an issue where you live. I have alway been discouraged with my vortech 350 when something goes wrong, all that computer make it hard to trouble shoot. Being you have the 4.6 you probably dont have the 3.73 towing gears. I did allot to my 350 and was able to squeeze 220hp at the wheels out of it with 35s on it. It was still a dog to my standards. go with 4.11 gears. since you have od, this will make a huge difference. Feel free to contact me for any more info.

Danny, I had a 70 BBC Chevelle, 69 BBC Camaro. Now trying to do something different and new to the game. I like what you are doing with your truck and wondered if you have some tips for me as far as performance and gas mileage tips. Got now, a 98 Silverado, Ext Cab, only a 4.3L with everything stock except these new items: 4" lift spindle, 4" Rough Country frt/rear shocks, 3" body lift, 35" 15 x 8 wheels, sucking gas like crazy and wondered if rear end gears will help along with throwing in SBC. I have a LT1 350 from a 94 Roadmaster and matching tranny, or go old school 350, 4 bolt main, performance motor. What do you think?
