Thanks! I am new here..but have been a professional auto tech for years & years though being disabled threw a bunch of wrenches into my plans. I've always been a Chevy/GM guy and joined as I need to learn what it takes to replace the rear window of my '98 K1500. Money is tight right now, so I'm going to remove a used sliding rear window from a friends' truck that was caught in a flood, and then install it in my rear window 'exploded" when a loose end of a ratchet strap found Mr. Driveshaft @ 75 MPH on the highway. I swore someone shot at me as it was loud and the hole in the rear window initially was 7 or 8" in diameter! I still have yet to get a response on the window procedures, but have seen a few people I was easily able to help. Seem like a good group of people here, so I'll stick around.

My name is Kirk Bonanny. I owned & operated Harry Bonanny & son along with my Father from 1987 until 12-31-2013. I have my Associates Degree in Automotive & Diesel Technology (Johnson College, Dickson City, Pa class of '91). I am an ASE Certified Master Automotive Tech and also was a tank mechanic in the PA National Guard on the M1 Tank.
I am married and have 2 sons. Christopher is 15 and Harrison is 12. I live in Jenkins Township, Pa with my wife, kids and nutty dog named Brownie. I've been a professional technician my entire adult life, though I became disabled in 2004 due to a rare autoimmune disease that has devastated my body & career. I still stay as up to date with automotive technology as possible. I've done every type of work short of replacing windshields & rear glass, though I only do body & paint work for myself, my family and a few good friends.
I am an avid hot-rodder and drag raced @ Numidia Raceway from 1990-2005. I dragged a big block 442 and my Dad dragged our '78 Monte Carlo. The Monte is going to be undergoing a frame off restoration beginning this year. I will be notching the rear of the frame and replacing the rear quarters and refinishing the rest of the body. Mechanically the car is totally upgraded. It is powered by a 383 stroker that is a full roller, Brodix heads etc and dyno'd @ 603 HP. The complete suspension was upgraded with tubular control arms front & rear, every component of the steering/suspension is either a new stock replacement or a new upgraded piece. The front sway bar is 1 5/8". It has a 3 core billet radiator, racing trans, an upgraded 8.5" GM 10 bolt w/ 3.73:1 gear ratio. The front brakes are a complete upgrade, I replaced the spindles so I could run a 12" rotor as the OEM 9.75" front brakes were nowhere near enough to slow this thing quickly enough. The interior is not original, is red and in excellent condition. The car originally was equipped with A/C but that has been eliminated and I'm searching for a G-Body heater case assembly from a non A/C car. I no longer race, but on a GPS it ran an 11.42 on street tires through the pipes, so if I wanted to drag I'd go to a 4.56:1 gear, full slicks and drop the pipes. I know it would be somewhere in the low to mid 10 second range.
Aside from cars/trucks I am an avid fisherman and used to fish amatuer bass tournaments 2-30x per year until I became disabled. I still fish 2-3 per year, but my body is not capable of doing this very often, and I can not do it on "big water". I am still an avid fisherman and probably get out 40-60x per year. I am a volunteer youth football & wrestling coach and have been for well over a decade, though I am no longer capable of performing the physical aspects of either sport. I am a railroad history buff and enjoy model railroading. I am a die hard fan of blues, blues-rock, classic rock, hard rock and metal. I DESPISE rap and every other synthetic & talentless form of music!
I am very involved with my children, and try to help any kid I've coached with whatever they may need. I often take a few of them fishing as many of them do not have a Father in their lives. Prior to becoming sickly I was a dedicated powerlifter and achieved my lifetime goal of bench pressing over 400 lbs, which I accomplished in Nov of '03 when I did 405 2x. That was 5 weeks prior to being struck with a rare autoimmune disease. I also wrestled, played football, lifted & ran throughout my school years.
I have built 7 "monster" trucks over the years for 2 different friends, though I personally would never own one (I'm too damn short!) I enjoyed building them, painting them and occasionally going off roading with them.
My truck is a '98 Chevy K1500, 5.7 automatic. It is mostly stock with the exception of a massive transmission cooler and a compu-cam with mild port work done to the heads. It stands out as it is white with dark red racing stripes (SS Chevelle style with the tracer outline) on the hood & roof. I tow my boat with it and plow snow with it. Aside from that it gets used as a truck the vast majority of the time..I'm not one to own something and be afraid to use it for its intended purpose!

hot rods, fishing, tournament fishing, coaching football & wrestling.. LOUD music
