Hey Pikey, what type of spline grease do you recommend for this application?

The engine reliability is the one in question here due to the variable displacement engine (aka AFM).
My 2001 has the non AFM 5.3L V8 engine and has been very reliable so far at close to 190k miles....

I am also planning on upgrading our 2001 to a newer model but this 2001 model is just bullet-proof that I am also having second thoughts.
I have been watching reliability reports on...

Thanks for the reply.
Nice to know these compressors last a long time.
I don't hear any strange noises from the compressor.
I have all the hvac tools I need to diy.
So I have checked the...

I have 188k miles on the ac compressor in my 2001 suburban. But the cooling efficiency has decreased judging by the vent temperature not as cold as before. I had a leakage at the cycling...

I finally had the guts to drop the transmission pan to replace filter and fluid.
I got the pan off and the old filter.
The filter kit came with a filter seal, filter and pan gasket.

I replaced the brushes on the alternator at 150k miles.
I have 187k miles now.
I noticed the dash lights are flickering at idle. It steadies when I rev the engine above idle. I will check the...
Electrical schematics is your friend.
You can go to Autozone, register and have access to wiring diagrams.
Anyway, compressor clutch power comes from 10amp ac fuse hot only in run position, then...
Did you flush the lines and the coils before you installed the new compressor?
If yes, then it must be the new compressor defective.
If it is cooling and the pressures are correct, just drive and...

I will try the Spicer this time.
I marked the drive shaft spline and diff input shaft positions when I replaced them back in 2012.
It was very smooth and no vibrations after replacement.
On a newer truck, you will get an extra 5 mpg highway but not as much on city if you are only looking at mpg saving.
On my 2011. I really don't see that gas savings especially when I drive it the...

The only thing that was touched on this 2001 Suburban was the drive shaft u-joints. I used it to pull a 6-10 enclosed trailer with tools and that was probably why the u-joints failed...
05-08-2014, 07:03 AM
I think my driveshaft u-joints now at 185k miles are once again going bad but not as bad as when it was at 140k miles. At 140k miles, the front u-joint was rusted out and had crushed needes and...

Thank you Eric.
One thing I did not mention in my troubleshooting steps was I bought a new Dorman window regulator from Autozone after installing the new switch module.
The new window regulator...

I would check to make sure the door lock control module is getting the lock and unlock signals at terminals C and D coming from the three door lock switches.
You are looking for a 12V signal at...

Thanks. That is good to know.
The thing is I put 12V direct to the motor terminal and it moved up and down reversing polarity.
Next time it happens, armed with a schematics, I will check for 12V...

Well, I took out the door panel and disconnected the wire harness to the window regulator motor.
- I put 12V directly to the motor leads and it went up and down wired direct to the battery.
Nice to know.
Do they have the same thread pitch?
If they do, I may need to start using the PF61 on my 2011.
I really don't like the small filter.

Actually, my old fuel pump motor/pump assembly was still good. The built in internal check valve went bad allowing fuel to leak back to tank.
I still believe it is a fuel issue.
04-22-2014, 10:35 AM
My 2001 Suburban used to do that at around 140k miles.
When I performed a fuel pressure test, the pressure drops from 55 psi to zero psi in 3-5 minutes.
it ended up being a bad fuel pump.
I think I use AC Delco PF61 on my 2001 Suburban 5.3L. They are twice as long.
The PF48 I use for the 2011 Silverado 5.3L is half shorter.
If it is coming from the ac unit, the only component that will duplicate the balloon high pitch noise while the unit is on is the orifice tube. If the truck still has the original ac, most probably...

I also use MMO once a month and everytime I take the 2001 Suburban for a long drive. I just mix it with gas in the tank.
I use MMO on every vehicle I have. It has done wonders in combination with...
I figure I will update this thread.
I bled it again after cycling the ABS by slamming on the brakes while going 50 mph on a dirt road last week.
The brake pedal improved very little but it stops...
Ok I went out in the country and found a dirt road. Drove it at 50mph and slammed on the brakes. ABS worked and I felt the brake pedal pulsate and the traction control display showed "Low Traction"...
