This certainly sucks for you folks.
My used 98 suburban-225,500 miles-so durable-despite leaking oil and coolant-I wouldn't be scared to drive it to AZ again-3000 miles round trip-energizer bunny...
Is this somehow related to The famous Ricardo-
did all that famous combustion chamber research waaaaay back when??
Ford is making pretty good vehicles now
Dodge is too
so GM will certainly have to correct any chronic problems
Guessing they are furiously working on it.
I'm not defending the AFM problem.
No way would I buy a GM 2007 on until that problem is resolved.
I -we-were nearly broke in 2007 when I paid $2950 for a 1998 Suburban with 195,000 miles on...
AFM-maybe 1,000,000 Gms sold with AFM??
Just how many have failed?
We only hear squeaky wheels? If 1000 failed 1,000/1,000,000 = 1/1000 one per thousand?
Granted AFM not GMs finest hour...
Need more torque-?? GEARING TQ multiplication etc
It is why god invented gearing-different rear ends.
GEARING-and HP are what actually make you accelerate faster. TQ X RPMs X CONSTANT=HP

Seem to remember some Toyota related manufacturer-maybe built Diesel trucks-called Hino?
What is your Hino-where did it come from.
I'm in New Orleans suburbs- we have potholes here...

I almost feel guilty we have had such good luck with the 98 suburban we bought in 2007 with 195,000 miles on it-it has been a winner-225,400 miles-still getting good mpg-
Granted it leaks...
Maybe it would be worth buying back from the insurance company-
Nice body-perhaps worth $300??
Motor-might be ok?
Well-the body-and the MONSTER MOTOR- they are what give it worth
You just can't find bodies like that where you are-not for any price
Mechanical stuff-cost $$ of course
but rusted frame floor or...
Yeah-that HUGE BULL BAR-push bar-brush guard
Not to my taste either-
but cmco is right-put it on craigs list-might get $250-probably cost $500 or so new
Not sure what the hood is worth-I'm old-so...

I think-the CAT-CON will burn the oil pretty cleanly
so if it is working right-you won't get BLUE SMOKE like in the old days when cars fogging their way down the roads were pretty common
Yeah-rustbucket POS trucks state in the midwest-something nice like that-low miles-4x4 3/4 ton full on tow vehicle-folks might ask $8000 where you are
All the other suburbans of that vintage would...
Now a days the 1/2 SUVs are bringing better $$ -especially with that BIG BLOCK
When gas was $4 -2008-they would have had trouble getting $2000 for it despite the nice condition
Now -in the no rust...

Various significant problems can drag on.
Honda for example took about 5-6 years to solve the problem they had with their 5 speed AT in the V-6- fair number of failures-2000-2005 I think....

Typical insurance company CS-what a surprise.I really hate insurance companies-car health etc-all cut from the same chiseling cloth!
I know toyota had the oil sludge-gumming up the engine problem-...

TBPLUS- old answer but good answer.
I distinctly remember the problems GM had with those old 4-6-8 ENGINES??
I forget exactly what GM called them-but it was something like 4-6-8??
Seem to remember...
But a 20 yo running decently NOT RUSTBUCKET 1/2 truck ton in the NE or midwest(but MW not as bad usually)- is a much better than average deal.
If it was a 4x4 it would have gone for...

Gotta better look last night-with the black light
A bit of coolant pooled in a place than sure makes me worry about the intake manifold gaskets
I really don't want that to be the...

My 1998 Suburban-224,600 miles-last 6 years 30,000 mine.
It has a coolant leak-maybe more than one.
I have been smelling coolant when I get out-or when I pop the hood for at least 6...
That is unusual-my 1998 has 224,500 miles now-last 30,000 and 6.5 years are mine.
I did have the intake manifold leak-and I'm not convinced it is fixed-but I lazily had someone else do the intake...

Got it started-warm yesterday-75 or so-
Drove to SAMs-removed it hauled it in
Woman tests it-showed 12.5 volts but just 400cca- said "out of spec-buy another"
Of course-despite 8...

Yeah-not a bad idea-3-3.5 years
Especially since I'm in a suburb of new orleans-and heat kills batteries.
My batteries get gentle service-no winch-occasionally I run extra headlights-once very 3...

So 3-4 years-that is about it?
Guess the tiny prius 12 volt-which isn't used to start it-spoiled me
So not worth the $200 bucks-
There is an interstate dealer near me-probably $100 or so...
