Dave, I'd check the fuse terminals for signs of corrosion. Unfortunately, under the two piece fuse box under the hood is where there are alot of corrosion issues.
Also, pin fitment issues inside...
Take the blower motor cage out and inspect for debris and or clogs in the cage that would impede air flow.
it sounds as if your issue is there or if it isn't, it's a mode door issue.

Lsa on the cam is the direct contributing factor to idle charachteristics. I'd look into a 112 lsa or something close for a good thump, all the while maintaining drivability.
