I am doing an axle swap on my truck from 1/2 ton to 3/4 ton. It is an '89 suburban. I have been told to upgrade my master cylinder, which means I need to change my booster.
Can I use the booster &...

I'm putting a 3/4 ton dana 44 under the front of my '89 suburban. I haven't had time to take the hubs off and I have 2 questions.
1. Do I need a 4 prong socket or 6?
2. can I use 1/2 ton locking...

Sweet... I'll be doing the brakes soon, but the plan has changed....
I got a '79 3/4 ton parts truck and am doing an axle swap. I'll have an 8 lug Dana 44 in front and a 14 bolt in the rear. I don't...

I'll do that with the prop valve.
As far as if there is cracks.... I would probably have my father in law just fabricate some type of reinforcing bracket and weld that in over where the crack would...

I would have never thought about the steering gear... I'll do that. and hopefully my PS pump will work with it.
I also read that I'd be better off installing a new 3/4 Ton master cylinder. I will be...

In theory and as I look at the diagram of the complete axle it should work.... I just don't want any suprises. I mean as long as the axle itself is securely attatched and there is lubricant in the...

Can you elaborate on the steering and suspension mods including springs? I may be getting a '80 3/4 ton Longbed complete and I'd like to know what all is involved before I actualy buy it.
On alot of...

What I'm trying to do is get my VERY noisy pinion bearings (and maybe the gearset too) to shut up.... just thinking about making it a dummy axle. I know that setting the pinion is a job I will leave...

I know it's not the right thing to do, but I want to know if this is hypotheticaly possible.....
If I removed the front driveline and pinion gear and ring gear from the front axle. Then reinstall...

What do you mean the size tells you they didn't come off of a 1500 4x4 suburban?
As I said, I'm looking at 3/4 ton parts. The parts I was looking at were at a Chevy/GMC only boneyard.
I doubt I'll...

I have a line up on the dana 44 with 3.73's for $75 and a backup with new wheel u joints and ball joints for $100. I'm not sure of the gear ratio on the last one. These are essentialy core prices....

It looks like $200-$350 for both axles..... then all the rebuild parts..... and used tires and wheels..... Hoping to get it all done for under $2000 including all brakes, ball joints, rebuilding the...

I'm not sure yet.... That's why I posted this thread. If I don't need the leaf springs I will just start buying the axles.... If I do need them I will look for a parts truck. That's why I asked if I...

what do you mean leaf packs?
01-25-2009, 09:20 PM
yup! leafs up front....
I hope the drivelines aren't an issue..... but if they are I need to buy more parts, so that's OK.

It's got a 10 bolt solid axle with 3.42 gears.

I really suck at using search features... I'm sure this has been asked before.
What all is involved if I want to put 3/4 ton axles under my 1/2 ton '89 suburban?
I want to change the gear ratio and...
This just gets more and more complicated. From what I'm reading I need to change my gears to 3.73 in front and back. I can't seem to find the 3.42's for a dana 44 anyway. It seems that the ring and...
I'm looking at a dana 44 front end to put on my '89 suburban 1/2 ton. I am probably going with the 44 due to cost issues.
The axle I'm looking at looks nice... good joints, straight, tight, OK...
I'm changing the front out because it makes a horrible groaning noise when under load. I figure with 163,*** miles it deserves a rebuild.
I was looking at a couple dana 60's, but they are 3/4 ton...
I'm getting ready to purchase a new (used) 10 bolt front axle for my '89 Suburban 1/2 ton with 3.42 gears. I will be rebuilding it 100% and need to know how to inspect what is to be my core.

I want to say the press can maybe handle 500 lbs. It's very old and made of very thin metal.... Grandpa used it to assemble hose.... not much to it..... I wonder what I will have to pay the shop to...

I figured I would need a press. Was hoping there was another trick like burning sage in a blue container while blowing on alternate lugs with a harmonica tuned to D. Might just have to take them to...

OK, I'm new to 4x4 trucks. Finally stepped up to the big boys and bought a nice '89 1/2 ton Suburban.... It needs front brakes including rotors. I've done brakes on about a million vehicles and I...

I'm not sure if I want to modify the truck much. I've already added the hoop steps and stereo... Will need to put better speakers in the front.... Fog lights should be on in the next week....
