just an update my fuel pump went out and was replace and it still does this.. my mechanic buddy thinks its the alt regulator acting up when its cold

so i should uprgrade the alt cable because i run a plow correct?

it was cold out and there was 1/2 tank fuel in it ... but i know whatever sends the signal to the gauge isnt working properly .. the fuel gauge only works correctly while cruising

i think i will go with a mag hytec only because of a lifetime warrenty the only thing that worries me is that it has only 12 bolts rather than 14..

welll i went to the dealer and had my vin checked out and i have a 10.5 ring gear .. so does that mean i have aa14-10.5 rear end ?

well i put my buddys 14-11.5 gasket up to mine from his cummins
and it matches so idk lol

so its safe to say i have a 10.5 ..

i dont know know the difference between full floating and semi-floating .. or the 10.5 and 11.5 .. what is the standard rearend in an 2001 2500hd gas..?

i have the 14 bolt cover.. but i believe there is a 10.5 and 11.5 .. how do i know the difference?

how can i identify which diff i have if the tag on the differential is gone ? help please .. i can get a deal on one but have not one clue if it will fit ..

idk if it helps but i just discovered that if i drive it during this time , as i press the gas my voltage drops and when i lay off of the gas it goes back up... help please

ill take a vidieo tomorrow morning so you guys can see it its almost like something cuts out for a split second repeatedly and it only does it for about 10 min so idk

i dont know if this the right section but my truck is having an issue during cold mornings.. my voltage will go up and down up and down for about 10 mins until the truck warms up .. when this happens...

do you guys think i should need to upgrade some of the cables since i upgraded the alternator

i ended up going with the 145 amp from autozone .. it fits perfectly and has a lifetime warranty

i just figure that if i have to replace it i mind as well upgrade a little lol

thanks guys .. i do have certain needs , i plow so between running the plow , strobes , and whatnot i feel better having a higher output alternator .. i think i may also run a second battery too.

i mean i guess what im asking is if the 145amp fits correctly , would it hurt anything to run a higher am alternator?

how do i figure out which alternator cam on the factory setup of my 2001 gmc 2500hd 4x4 .. it does have plow prep.the alternator has been replaced once by previous owner . i notice a 105amp , 130amp...

My brake pedal squeeks when i press it, however the brakes work as they should. Any ideas? I think i may try to grease it and see if that care of this really annoying issue .

Thank you i read that thread but i wasnt too sure if it applied to my truck. i thought my truck has a 4l80e .. its a 2001 2500hd 6liter? this issue is really starting to piss me off .. to top it off...

anyone else have the same problem?

also i have no check engine light on .. if that helps any
