Thanks for the info - apprecaited.
That sounds like a good plan - to upgrade the front and rear door speakers. Might even go the whole hog and replace the stock head unit - never liked it anyway...

Thanks for the reply.
The plan was to keep the original stock head unit and just upgrade the front door speakers and the rear cargo area roof mounted sub woofers. Not that I need that much cargo...

I have a 1996 Suburban ( K2500 ) and to cut a long story short, I've decided to keep it and want to make it as comfortable on the inside as I can. Audio is poor. THe rear subwoofers dont...
Most of the driving I do is highway stuff , its about a 30 min drive to work, nearly all on highway roads, so the driving speed is consistent. I thought 12mpg was a bit on the low side, but by the...
Just to post up a bit of an update. Got the hydro brake booster sorted, the mechanic I found actually came round the my house and fixed it on the drive. Cost me around 150usd for the used part and...
Will do, thanks - much appreciated. Hope to get the part today and will probably take it in the workshop tomorrow.
Could be possible to source out genuine part in US and then shop it out here. I have an Aramex account so have a 'virtual' US address. I would guess shipping to there would probably be free but then...
Ok, so Spoke to a guy who lives on the same compound and who also owns a Suburban. He suggested I speak to his mechanic which I did this morning regarding getting hold of parts.
OEM parts is 2700...
Don't know. Here are pics of the offending item: Tried to capture it as best I could. As you look into the engine bay, it's on the right hand side, as the back of the bay. Clearly accessible and...
I'll take a pic and post it up. Mechanic showed me exactly where it was in the engine bay, maybe you guys can do a visual ID. Thanks.

Going on what the mechanic said, I...
Right, had some of the guys look at it at work today, they are far more technically aware than me. After around five mins with the bonnet / hood up, we identifed it was the Power Steering fluid,...
Been on the hunt for a while and finally managed to find one that was reasonable.

16 years - wow, that's a long stretch. Five years feels like a long time. Dhahran is quite different to Riyadh though, being on the coast and a little more 'relaxed' than Riyadh, plus the potential...

Thanks for the advice - hadn't actually considered that there might be a reliability factor when choosing between the two engine sizes, but had always intended to get the 454 - just due...

Thanks for the info, appreciated. I'm in Riyadh, been in Saudi for five years in total, did two years in Jeddah and three now in the capital. Do you know it , have you been here previously?

Well, the continues for a Suburban. Went again today to look at a 1996 2500. Here's the questions:
How can you tell it's the big engine block, the 7.4L? ( as opposed to the smaller 5.7(?) L...

Well, is a no go on that one. I offered the guy 19,000 SR ( $5000), a couple of days later he rang me back saying he had been offered 28,000 SR ( $7,500 ) which I think is way too high for a truck of...

Thanks for the replies chaps, much appreciated.
If I can get it for a decent price, I would take it to a local garage for a pre purchase inspection. These can be done for around $50, and...

Still looking for a mid 90's GMC Suburban. Went to look at this one today:
109,000 kms on the clock ( around 68,000 miles)
Seems ok, took it for a quick drive around the...
Cheers, that's what I was hoping to hear.
What is the difference between a Chevvy and a GMC Suburban? ( apart from the badges and the steering wheel emblem )
I've been looking at buying a 1995 / 96 GMC as opposed to Chevvy, don't know...

Indeed it is. THe eyebrow raising thing is - the cost to buy one of these things. I've seen some going for around 34,000 SR ( $9000). And these are 1995 / 96 models, good condition, average miles...

The cost of labour is relatively cheap here, and the better mechanics tend to be Fillipino. American cars are quite popular, so there are loads of small workshops who will do the work for you, and...

Well, managed to get it to start today and took it for a little test drive, and disappointingly, it was a bit of a mess. Very loud engine noise, which my Saudi friend reckons was the water pump. The...
